Anyone have any more info on this? This just sounds like a movie industry disaster waiting to happen.

Maybe. But we also may get a movie with Venom in it that doesn't suck, and an opportunity for Carnage. I love me some Carnage.

I didn't even like the original movies they made...I have made it my life's goal to destroy Toby Maguire in a slow and horrible way for destroying the super hero of my childhood.

And the 3rd movie was the worst one!

I'm sure people will be mad but its kind of interesting to see what they'll do with this revamped franchise! Peter Parker was such an emo kid in the third movie =,=

Okay, that's what I thought (not going to go on an emo rant).

Anywho, in 3 wasn't he all "grr im gonna kill that sandman jerk" than he is all like "yay i killed him, im going to be all happy and make life my oyster and shuck its brains out" then all "grr this suit just makes me so angry, im totally going to get rid of it". I recall no "woe is me" moments.

Yanno, I'd really like to see all the symbiotes (though they didn't last too long...). I'm not too happy since I love Tobey, but I think it'll be interesting to see how this goes, good or bad.

Hmmm...Robotech...if he screws it up at all his death will come sooner than planned. I'm interested to see a trailer of it to get a feel for how their doing the movie, I love the novels of Robotech so this could be a good/bad thing with making a movie.

How is a Spiderman movie reboot any different then the comic? They've done it at least 3 times already. lol. It's one of the reasons I've honestly lost all interest in Spiderman.

In Sam Raimi's defense, he never wanted Venom in Spidey 3, he hated him in fact. Avi Arad forced him to put Venom in the movie since the fanboys at comic-con wanted it. What Spider-man 3 could've been if Venom fans didn't destroy it.

As for the reboot, there's no casting yet other than the story about the dude who played Percy Jackson wanting to try out for the role. The reboot is gonna be based on Ultimate Spider-man I hear. Blehhh i dunno what to think of it yet...

they rebooted spider-man the last time, because the 2nd reboot--after stan lee
sold most of the company and marvel revamped EVERY series--SUCKED! last time i checked,
ultimate spider-man(the last reboot) was way, waaaay better than all three of the movies.
not to mention, there are a bajillion different comic continuities, so plenty of spider-man series have been without
a reboot.

it'd be stupid not to do another reboot after they RUINED it with the marvel reboot and that god awful clone arc--
which made me completely give up as a kid, too.

if people hated the last movie so much, why is this controversial at all?
a chronology gets ruined, they revamp it.
the spider-man movies were neither great, nor horrid the last time i checked. mcguire was a
great parker, but the movies had the flattest spider-man i've ever seen--but, that's the fault of the script
mostly. the black suit arc is a great story to do, but venom and especially SANDMAN aren't the most
amazing villains..
throwing in TWO villains, the black suit AND tying up the green goblin thing was a tall order
and it was almost guaranteed to make the story a total rushed, jumbled mess.
hair schwoops do not an emo kid make. =\ the movies aren't dark enough to allow spidey to flip out and
go through all the moral dilemma the black suit causes.

P.S. this is old, OLLLLD news, btw.

That's no defense. If you're forced to put him in, do it right dammit. You're a professional, you do you job regardless of what the boss says. You can voice your opinion, but when the word is final, you better be putting full effort into it as if it was your idea in the first place. If you half-butt it, you deserve all the criticism you get.

Anyway, yes, at this point Spider-Man needs another reboot. They ruined the symbiotes, and that's where a lot of the Spider-Man fun comes from.

All I was saying is that Spiderman has been rebooted more then other hero so why should it matter if the movie is getting rebooted. Hell, after the last two xmen movie disasters I'd wish they reboot that.

So, in other words:

They had three well reviewed movies.

A List Cast and Director

Spent Millions on the Production of a Fourth

All three films were amongst the Top Grossing of all time.

Reboot.

The franchise isn't even ten years old yet. The movies have been fantastic to kinda lukewarm, but have a better track record than any other Superhero franchise. Meanwhile, they go for the darker approach. No. This is Spider-Man. Sam Raimi said on the Commentary for Spider-Man 2 that he "Loved the Original Superman for how bright and positive it was." Which is why went the route he did. And it worked. Critics and fans have almost unanimously praised the first two films, while the third got MOSTLY positive reviews, but not nearly enough acclaim.

This is just plain idiotic.

With what he had to work with to put Venom in the storyline and the drama that was happening already. There was no room to do it right in the first place.

there's way more going on in each star wars movie and those turned out pretty okay..

@newski,
'fantastic'? really?! the first spider-man movie was more or less the 70's superman template with
spider-man swapped into the blue and red tights instead. i don't dislike those movies and i'm BIASED
toward anything spider-man and even i had problems with those movies. they were mildly entertaining, but
i don't really care to watch any of them more than once unless i'm especially bored or have a fletting
fit of nostalgia or spider-man cravings. the casting WAS good, though. honestly, it's the strength of the source
material that shines in those movies more than the sum of the parts.

as far as how stupid the reboot is after the movies success, i've read a few places that it was difficult progressively
difficult to get the entire cast together for every subsequent movie. i think they all
sort of wanted to go their separate ways after the first two despite their financial success. from
the sound of it, control of the project was getting away from reimi with the last movie, anyway.
the reboot may be stupid and risky financially, but it could be the best thing for everyone quality-wise.
