Most of the jobs I've had have not involved interaction with the public. If I had coworkers doing some of the things in this thread then they would not remain coworkers.

But, there was this one time where I worked as a cashier at a dry cleaners. One day, there was a person wandering around the shop who was of stocky build, wore darkglasses and appeared to be of hispanic ancestry. After circling the building and looking into the windows for a few hours, he then came inside and talked to the cashiers. He asked about the services we render and the prices we charge but the whole time he was intently looking around at the rear of the rear of the store where most of the production workers where, and he seemed to have little interest in the conversation. What he did have, was a teardrop tattoo under his eye, which I've been told that in some hispanic traditions, it is the mark of a paid assassin, who gets one teardrop for every person they've killed. After he left, my boss asked me for advice and I suggested that she let all the other employees know about it as soon as possible so who ever he was looking for can either flee the country or pay off whoever they need to pay off with out involving us any further. The next day one of the production employees who was from mexico, took a sudden leave of absence to visit his family and we never heard from him again.

At work last week I was told to use the crane. You have to be certified to use it and there's maybe five people who do, one for sure has his certification since he uses it all day. Well my boss started telling me to grab the remote and move it then eventually asked me, "You know how to use it already, right?" It's a simple remote to use so I said yes. I moved it to lift these bundles of wire for the weight, no problem. Supervisor comes in and I asked him to move the first crane out of the way so we had move to use the second. I didn't see that the two straps were holding over 3,000lbs of steel on the floor which got dragged and hit him right on the legs. He started yelling at me saying this is dangerous and such then the guy who's certified comes rushing in only to (you wouldn't guess it because it surprised me too) be yelled at by the supervisor.

I did not get why they were fighting between each other when it had nothing to do with what happened. My supervisor is awesome.

Not trying to contradict or invalidate your (admittedly entertaining) story, but the "teardrop tattoo" you referenced is also used (in some cultures or cultural subsets) as a mark of sadness, to be applied to your face when one of your good friends is murdered. If the teardrop is "open" i.e. hollow or not colored-in, then it just means that their friend died. If it's "closed" i.e. filled or colored-in, it means that the wearer of that tattoo got revenge by murdering the person who killed said friend.

I've never heard of the teardrop tattoo as a signifier for Mexican assassins (why would any self-respecting assassin worth his salt want to advertise his profession in that way?), but that doesn't meant that you're wrong. I just figured I'd provide another bit of information on the teardrop tattoo.

I use to work at a BP, and some people got arrested for drug dealing in our parking lot. I wasn't there sadly, but my co-worker said she was outside smoking and watching

I also use to work at a Toys R Us, and my supervisor got arrested while at work for doing returns without a receipt, and keeping the money. He did it more than once, and sadly I wasn't there when he got arrested. I probably got the managers curious about the supervisor though when I tried to return something, and it showed that it was already returned by the supervisor....

Also at Toys R Us, the store got broken into 2 times in the past year after never being broken into since it has been opened. First time the person took out one of the big front windows. 2nd time (might have been a different person), they broke the exit door and went in the store, but supposedly didn't steal anything.

Shortly after I left Toys R Us, some "customers" (3 people) got arrested for trying to steal some games. The security guy supposedly shoved one of the person against the wall, and one of the other person shoved the security guy. The cops had already been called by that time though

I work for an IT company on third shift and the one thing that annoys me the most about my job is people will drag me into chats for issues without explaining what the issue is. I have to create tickets whenever we get engaged for an incident and the kicker is my status specifically says, "Side ping with issue BEFORE group invite Please." Aside from that I have other things that annoy the crap out of me but that's a whole new world.

Okay this is kinda off topic for this thread, but I don't feel like making my own, but I would appreciate if anyone has any opinions. ;A; (I feel kinda stoopid posting this but It's been bothering me and I don't really have anyone to talk to about it.)

Basically, I just want to know if anyone ever in lower-tier job levels has felt this, or if I'm just over reacting. I really want to keep this job but the dynamic of it is stressing me out.

In vague terms, I'm just the "help" at my job. It's my first job, everyone else is trained except me. There's only one of me in this position, and I primarily work only with back staff. It's the front staff, that I almost never come in contact with that's bothering me.
I'm in a situation where when I do a lot of work, it's almost always in clear view of the front staff.
The main issue is that when I happen to screw up (which happens in a good while, thanks to a lot of mixed messages from back and front staff...), the front staff never corrects me, but instead "rats me out" to my boss(es).
And I've come to noticed that basically my boss(es) either tell me that I screwed up or not.
I don't understand why they choose to say something to my boss before at least trying to correct me.
Is this normal in a job environment?
I just get the feeling they're being petty and don't like me. (I'm really not friendly, I don't make an attempt to acknowledge them, but I'm just shy.) Add on the fact almost all of them are female and in their mid-20s. (I'm only 19, also a girl.) I feel it's relevant just because I've noticed a bit of tude with one of them especially.
I feel like I'm constantly being watched by Big Brother or something.

Well, today I likely gained a horrid reputation up front with a couple of the cashiers for something I didn't even do. All because my supervisor got me involved with a price match and coupon scam that's been going on for awhile and we're just now trying to stop it.

Now, for those who may be a little unfamiliar, Walmart has a price match policy which allows you to match sale items from competitors' stores at Walmart for their advertised prices to try and make it convenient for you to do all of your shopping at one store. However, due to customers not needing to have the ad and not all cashiers are familiar with what may or may not be in each stores' ads for that specific week (plus not every Walmart may have the ads up at customer service as they likely should for associate reference), it leads us wide open for scamming. Also thanks to the show Extreme Couponing, which has highlighted several illegal couponing practices, people have come into our store and have walked away with $200-$400 in items for pennies or we've even paid them to take the items out.

Today, one of my cashiers broke one of the big rules up front by letting two of her friends go through her line. I've seen them in here before, as they seem to be in here every week or so. When I came into the picture to give the cashier her lunch break, she was about a quarter of the way through the first friend's transaction. A lot of what was being said sounded extremely bogus and out there, but since it wasn't my transaction, I really wasn't allowed to say anything. My supervisor walked past and pulled me to the side, and asked me to do something for him after that transaction was done, and of course I said yes because I'm not one to disobey my supervisors when I'm told to do something. I went back over to the register, and that's when things got crazy.

An item came up that the cashier wanted to see the ad for that her friend didn't have. However, because I'm a price matcher and couponer myself (and especially now with A-Cen coming up), I brought my ads with me and brought out the ad in question. Didn't see it, so obviously customer didn't want it, nor wanted several other items that wasn't in the ad. Both customers then started to accuse me of being sent over on purpose with the ads to watch over them and her. Well, the supervisor that sent me over didn't even know I had the ads (actually, only two of the supervisors know I have them, as well as the cashier in question, and have carried ads with me for the last six or so months since I started to get into the price matching/couponing thing), explained that to them, and stated I was only sent over to cover a lunch and nothing more.

Transaction went on, coupons started, total went down, blah blah. Then the second lady asked me she would have to go through her list with me of all her price matches. I told her yes, since I wasn't there for all of them, plus there was a whole lot of them so I wouldn't have been able to remember them all anyway (there was about 20 or so price matches; no way I would've been able to remember all of that). Both of them got pissed off and started slamming the rest of the items back into their cart so she could go another line. From there, from what I caught on, they ranted and raved about how rude I was and such to my supervisors. All because I was sent over there to cover a lunch.

Then tonight, the cashier defriended me on Facebook. Which actually hurts because she's basically cutting off what was a good work relationship and friendship over something that wasn't my fault and I shouldn't have been involved with in the first place. I was only doing my job and doing as I was told, nothing more, and pretty much everyone in my store knows I'm one of the most relaxed and easy-going people up there, and one of the few that really doesn't (or really, REALLY tries not to) break the rules. I guess call me a goody two-shoes, but still...

I used to work for an answering service run by my mother. We answered for some doctors offices, apartment complexes, etc when they were on breaks or went home for the night. Every once in a while I'd get the expected prank call "Hey, want to suck my c**k?" or something like that. My mom did have two really interesting stories though. Once someone called and asked what she was wearing. She replied nothing and he quickly hung up xD Another time someone called, again asked what she was wearing. She played along, pretending she was in sexy clothes. This went on for a few minutes (hey, we answer phone all day for rude people, we'll take any entertainment we can get) before the guy freaked out and said "OMG I thought I called my wife!" and started to apologize on end xD Good times.

For my current job, I work in an engineering office as an intern. It was a slow day only a few weeks into my job. I was still in college so I looked up "Rules of College" or something similar on google, hoping for a good laugh about nonsense rules. Clicked on the first site that popped up, called collegerules(dot)com. My work blocks pages for even having those stupid little sidebars with dating ads. But somehow it didn't block this site which was straight up porn @.@ I seriously couldn't hit the back button fast enough. Thankfully no one saw...or at least no one mentioned seeing it to me lol

It's normal. People don't want to be nice and help you out, and they'd rather talk to someone they know better (I'm assuming they're on better terms with your bosses than they are you) maybe they expect your bosses to tell you what you're doing wrong instead of them? who knows, but definitely normal. No one wants a confrontation with whoever they have an issue with, so they take the issue to someone else.

Yes I'm reanimated this thread. I have had to case recently with inappropriate comments that are not really flattering & I'm not sure if they were meant to be. Though luckily I didn't deck the one kid. On my first over night for month long stink in toys for Christmas, we had some drunk kids who I am certain were not legally able to drink. Trying to sober up at our now 24 hour store. Why one associate was helping them at the sporting goods counter, fearfully of what hey were up to & in hopes to get them what they needed with the intent of them leaving that much sooner. Another associate & were trying to keep an eye them to, to make sure they didn't give any one a hard, time while stocking toys. They finally walked past slowly to head for what we thought & hoped was them leaving by the front doors. When the most drunk one said, (edited)"Your so &^#@ing hot, I'd do ya!" Then he stood there expecting a response. My reaction is to punch first & apologize to the cops later, but I kept my cool & looked at the other associate who in tern looked at me.Luckily the guy's friend said sorry several times & dragged him away, they later went & damaged about of our greeting cards. I'm assuming & hoping it was at least directed at me, since I was the only female there. Not to mention they were much younger than me.I was also hoping it wasn't going to be like this the whole month.
Yesterday I went out for my break at work & some boys half my age, decide not to run me over while walking in through the exit of our store. While one hollered I love your hat, in witch I did say thank you! Because it is an awesome Gengar hat that gets lots of complements. Another friend had to add because, it's sexy. I'm just wondering if this a fad young guys.

Couple of stories.

Good one first. We were able to catch a shoplifter in the store today. Not only did his buddy take off in the car and leave him, after calling the parents they told the officer, "send his butt to juvie!" Nice to see some real parents are still out there.

Silly one. While getting called up front to help bag groceries one of the ladies asked me, "could you put the pop in one of the bags too? (using correct english instead of the urban slang she used as words). She then pointed to the 12 pack of pop, somehow thinking that was going to fit in a bag. I just laughed and told her, "um, no."

And on the bad side, we are still throwing away prefectly good toys at one job and food at the other. And it's annoying how hard to try to get this stuff donated and nobody cares. :/

So I'm on the register ringing up the customer when the screen freezes, when that happens it only last for 5 seconds then it continues with the transaction; however, this time another screen pops up, meaning the registers are being fixed. My boss tells me, cash only. Most stores that run on the systems are down. I have to rely on memory to figure out what to ring up. What a day and I thought it would be super busy.

My coworker who was cleaning the counter offers to staple it while my manager, who just came in the store, helped look for a bag and found one. They were about to put the coffee away when the customer noticed the coffee bag was wet and said forget the whole thing and walked away. We wasted our time for nothing.

Customer comes up with a full cart of groceries; I start scanning; Then they say, "We gonna havta stop when at (such and such) price, cuz I only got that much on my (foodstamp) card........ THEN WHY THE *(#@# DIDN"T YOU DO THE GODDANG MATH WHILE YOU WERE SHOPPING?! Most food isn't even taxed so you don't even have to put that into the equation most time. I love working for hotels because well you just walk away with some of the most hillarious stories and i have quite a few.

at the first hotel i worked at i was a housekeeper.

story 1. have you ever been in a hotel where theres a sign above the sprinkler head that says do not hang anything on this. I had a friend point that out to me and i was like well let me tell you a story. One time there was a wedding part that was staying at the hotel and the mother of the bride hung her dress up on the sprinkler head breaking the mercury and setting off the system. Black Sludge everywhere.

story 2. some guy came in super drunk one night and front desk was kinda like idk so they called security the guy made it up to his room. the next morning the room below his called down stating that they had water coming into there room from the ceiling. so security was called again and they found that same very drunk guy asleep in his shower ontop of the drain. whole room was flooded and everything had to be replaced.

at my current job im a night auditor i havent been here as long as i was at the last hotel job but i do have a couple of stories

story 3. when 2nd shift was training me on the computer system she was like so when you take a reservation of a frequent stayer they will sometimes ask to be in the same room and so u mark do not move in the system. well this one guest was supposed to check out of this room that was supposed to be a turnover for a frequent stayer and the current guest decided to extend his stay. when the frequent stayer showed up to check in he put up a hissy fit about making the other guy switch rooms and that he NEEDED that room. im not sure what happened with the room situation but she did tell me that it was a little suspicous so she went into the disputed room in question a week later and looked in all the nooks and cranies you could think of thinking she was going to find drugs. instead when she flipped the mattress up she found womens clothes sized for a cross dresser. lets just say she sold most of these clothes on amazon and ebay and walked away with a good couple grand. now before you freak out the frequent stayer never called or planned to come back.

story 4. so i had traded with one of my coworkers so she could go on a cruise i normally work sunday nights through thursday nights so she took my mon and tues low and behold i had the stomach flu those days so meh to that. I took her friday and saturday now normally our occupancy is a lil lower because of winter. well we had a polka festival in town and had a lot of senior citizens staying. friday was ok but saturday i was asked if i could pick up half a shift because our weekend second called in with the flu... thats what he gets for eating my cheese curds out of the fridge.... so i said yes sure (whoooo overtime)my night started out good knowing we had wind advisories in effect. at around 10:00 ish the wind picked up and tossed the wrought iron benches that were outside five feet from where they were sitting. i actually had a guest come down around that time to switch his form of payment to cash and pay right away i dont know how to trick the system into thinking he is paying for both days so i told him sorry and he would have to pay in the morning. He went out for a smoke i was like watch out for the benches. at about 11 ish i had a walk in asking for a first floor double Q only had one room left and put her in that one. one of her friends was walking by he already had his room and he was like so what room you in and she said 124 and he was like no way we are in 125 lets order pizza lol. somewhere in between there i had a lady call and ask our rates when i told her 79.90 she was like you for serious my response was yes and she hung up in my mind im like we aint no motel 6 damn. and finally the last interesting thing that happened saturday night were the two drunks that got dropped off by a friend now the friend left before these two had even walked up to the desk so they were stuck getting a room. i wouldnt have had a problem except for the fact that the woman was extremely loud and there are second floor rooms that open to the lobby my goal was to get them out of my lobby as fast as a i could finally ten minutes later 0.o they went to there room. I guess at least the guests in the 2nd floor rooms didnt complain.

Oh, that happens to me all the time. I end up placing back tons of food and random junk, and a lot of times meats, poultry, and frozen goods that we're no longer able to place back on the shelf, because people just like that think they can get three cartfuls of groceries, but only pay about $100 for it all. Uh, no.

Same with people thinking they can get pet food, paper plates and cups and things, and baking wear on food stamps because "it's still considered food" or "it's needed for eating the food". Sorry, but it doesn't work that way. ._.

Oh my god, the absolute worst I had was a lady that came up in a electric cart then had two kids (grandchildern I think) pushing a cart almost overloaded with food. Then she literally looked at me and said, "I only have 80 dollars on my card so we will have to stop there.". I was so close to just walking away and saying, "then figure out what you want and I'll come back to you." I exploded when I when back to my department. Milk crates went everywhere. lol

No no no. You've missed a perfect chance for your store to make money there. If she had asked "how much am I spending?" Throwing out a couple more 0's at the end would mean she would HAVE to get more stuff to get to that price. After all, she asked you how much you wanted her spend. lol

When I worked for a health insurance it was super annoying. Cant say it was the best job but I had my own little office and people would come/call on about some issues and I just ended up giving up on people calling in because their doctor wont subscribe them the drugs they want. When the doctor prescribed them that do X amount of time. So had to deal with angry people all the time. Also to top it off when Doctors would call me wanting to file claims and all that so they get paid when I have to tell them "No your claim is denied you're not getting paid." They would get so angry and it would be my fault when it was theirs. "Sorry you did not get an authorization for what you did to our member so you are not getting paid."

Don't plan on going back there.

At my office, a man from one of the floors above me always comes down to our floor to poop in our bathroom. There are only 8 of us working on this floor, and I'm one of only two men. I don't know if I'm mad because that's my territory and he shouldn't be pooping in it, or if I'm cross that I didn't think of that tactic, but I always know when he's around because he makes a beeline from the terlet to the elevator. I always want to sprint from my desk in the library to the bathroom and confront him, but he's too fast.

When I first got a job at McDonald's a long time ago, I became fast friends with one of the other employees there. He and I had similar interests so we got along pretty well. One day the manager asked me to head back to the freezer to get a box of fries. I went to the back grabbed the box and saw that my friend had followed me into the freezer.

Still holding the box I asked, "What's up?"

He grinned and said, "Check this out," and pulled out a small baggy of weed.

I exclaimed, "What the heck are you doing? You can't have that in here!"

He looked a little confused, "Wait, you don't smoke weed?"

I assured him I didn't when the manager came in behind him. He had his back to her so she couldn't see what he was holding in front of him so he just froze. She asked why we were just hanging out in the freezer and he said he'd come in to help out. She told us to hurry up and left.

Neither of us got into any trouble, but I still have no idea why that guy thought what he did was appropriate. I guess not all our interests synced up.

I work in retail and we had a shoplifter come in in February. None of us paid much attention since she was keeping to herself and not messing anything up until she came up to ask me to price check an item. She handed the item to me and I saw she had pencils all around her wrist stuffed up her jacket and some candy necklaces in her back pocket. Granted it's small stuff but theft is theft. Notified management and we kept our eyes on her. By we I mean myself and the other 3 employees plus my coworker and friend who came in to buy stuff. We watched this lady with the mirrors in the back of the store stuff things into her purse. We couldnt do anything about it unless the manager witnessed her cram something into a pocket or bag. Cops were called and the officer walked inside. The lady walked up and had a brief conversation with the officer who walked outside about 5 minutes later.

The lady decided it was time for her to leave and soon as she stepped outside our managers went out, called her out, cop stepped out of his car and they took her back to the office. Almost $400 in merchandise and the lady was crying because she wanted to get the junk, seriously none of it was necessities just perfume testers and valentines junk, for her grandbabies and daughter. Some people just dont think about the consequences that can happen when they get caught.

A couple days ago we had hail the size of golf balls coming down. We all stood at the office door looking outside commenting on how amazing it was and how it was rare for something like that to happen. After it stopped we all went back inside and showed each other pictures or videos we took and continued describing how crazy the hail was and how many broken windows were on all our company vehicles.

At that moment one of my coworkers stumbles inside the office and goes, "holy crap, how big was the hail? It was really loud."

Another coworker asked where he had been during the storm and he replied, "Dude, I was trapped in the port-a-john!"

Poor guy...
