I dunno if this affects any one out there, but U of I is expecting an increase in tuition, but as of yesterday, they said 20%! I mean, I'm just a little angry that I will be paying 35,000 a year for a public school from the state I live in! Did anyone else hear about this?

O_o That's just plain nuts... I think they're encroaching on dangerous territory. Raise tuition too much and you have fewer people that can afford to attend, thus cancelling out any gains made by an increased tuition rate.

^ Exactly! 20% in one year is incredibly harsh. Maybe they'll realize that.

Gotta pay those administrators' salaries even if they don't really do anything, build more buildings that aren't really needed, and have money for programs that are basically useless...

YOU SEEEEE!? D: And people are like "Why don't you go to U of I?" Have you SEEN their tuition!?! There's private schools with tuition lower than them! >< Gah! It's so ridiculous, their hikes are so big, they make the News-Gazette regularly. D:

EDIT: It definitely doesn't go to salaries. :< Unless you count board chairmen who do nothing but frown.

It probably all goes to the sports...
I mean seems like that where alot of college money goes towards.
It just makes me mad personally that sports players at my school
get more scholarships than people who receive them for academic
purposes. It just makes me question the priorities of administrators
at a SCHOOL.

Butts in the seats at games, which pays the bills. The other reason tuition's going up at a lot of state universities is because less and less people are going to them--having figured out that you can get as good of an education at a community college at half the price. Or that if you don't necessarily need a degree in English if your ambition is to be a car mechanic. (Which isn't a bad ambition, considering what they make an hour.)

I'd invite you all to my college where I teach my anime course, but tuition here is ridiculously high for Montana. I don't know where the money goes, but it's not to my salary, I can tell you that--or any other professor's, since we have the lowest paid profs in the state. Other colleges in Montana are pretty good as far as tuition goes, though.
