That's right! Become a Gofer at ACen this year! Perks include:

Free Crash Space (4 hours per day, only good for that night)*

Even get your badge COMPED FOR NEXT YEAR! (After working 16 hours totaled. Again, you must register and pay. Mailing charges WILL NOT be refunded. Hours worked can be accumulated over the entire weekend.)

DOUBLE Hours Thursday and after Closing Ceremonies/Teardown Sunday!

Please show up on Thursday. We need the help.

Experience the thrill of helping multiple departments. Perhaps even find one you want to staff the next year? Many gofers have moved into staff positions. They've become IRT, Staff Services, Registration, and others too! To sign up is so simple! Just find the Gofer hole. We'll be in the lower level in the Charles de Gaulle Room. We should be ready by noon, hopefully. Or ask a staff member, "Which way to the Gofer Hole?" It's that easy! We only ask that you be 16 years old or older to sign up with us. Any questions, just post ITT or PM me.

Anyone can be a gofer. As long as you are 16 or older, paid for your badge, and are willing to help out the con, you're in.

Well, the location this year in in the lower level in the Charles de Gaulle Room in the hotel during ACen. It's just down the stairs on the bottom floor/basement off to the side. Thursday sign ups are encouraged. As for what gofers do, I really can't say. It varies HEAVILY on the department and who needs what done. It could be anything from guarding a wet spot on the floor to a very super top secret mission. Just kidding. Generally it's unknown until someone calls needing something.

Just to clarify a few points, the Gofer Hole is in the basement of the Hyatt Hotel. You can sign up to gofer at any time at con. You can even sign up for Just Thursday and Sunday. And rooming MAY be provided upon completion of required hours and is on a first come first served basis.

Nope, never been a gofer. I'm on Special Needs / ADA Compliance staff. As for getting on staff, it's a matter of deciding what kind of position you want on staff and then applying to the department. Right now, this close to con, we're pretty full unless you want to apply for Reg staff. Info on that is in this section of the board.

As far as changing the group name, you really can't. An admin can change it if there's a reason - like if you join staff. But otherwise that's not changable. Sorry.

In essence, gofers come and go when and if they please, and since they're not counted as official staff, they can do as such. With that in mind, at this time, no, gofers don't receive any special privileges or "tags" on the forums.

You do get to see the sides of the con that a regular con-goer wouldn't. If you work enough hours you get crash space and your badge refunded. You can meet various people on staff while being a gofer, and if you're thinking about becoming a volunteer for ACen, it's a great way to find out just what department you like.

If I remember right, if you go downstairs to the Hyatt and make a left turn and turn around, the gofer hole should be somewhere on your right down that hallway.

If you work enough hours, you get your badge payment refunded. So basically you earn your way to a free badge. The refund is mailed after the con though, you don't have it to spend at con.

The limit for hours per day is 24.
