how do you feel about this?
i mean, sometimes using body positioning from another comic or whatever is fine; it's called
'swiping' if i remember correctly and it's considered okay in the comic book industry, but THIS...
he's ripping off panel layouts and character designs CONSISTENTLY throughout the book apparently.
i mean, if you're going to steal so much from other artist, try not to rip-off them all at once!

Yeah, that's pretty bad.

What I do just copy panels from other manga just to get a better understanding of certain positions and perspectives, but I never put them in my manga.

Though I must say I was quite interested in the fact that Gene Simmons' son started writing a manga... >_>

I'm surprised mainly about the fact that guy ripped off such a popular manga. If you're gonna xerox and recolor another's work, don't go for one easily recognized. (Shouldn't do it at all though.)

apparently, he pretended not to know what manga--calling it 'magma' by accident/on purpose--
on facebook after the scandal started to build or something. i'm surprised i'm just hearing about this.
a lot of people have been pretty pissed. tons of NEW pages he's traced from other manga has been found.

i can understand tweaking a design or two you found in another series you like, but not basing
pretty much EVERY character on someone else's. i can understand copying a single panel, but not an ENTIRE
page! and, he's a published comic author!!

I may use another comic to help me with a body angle or even a facial expression, but I draw what I see, not trace. I mean you can't even call that fan art. That's just wrong & illegal for a reason. I find this very disturbing, but who knew he was a Bleach fan.

Want to know the truly sad part? His dad is a huuuuge comic fan. Which makes you wonder whether he knew what was going on, or if Nick somehow managed to keep it out of Gene's sight.

Either way, one can hope that when Gene does find out what's coming - and he will - he won't just tuck Nick under his wing and shield him from the onslaught of bad press, and instead let his son learn a very valuable lesson in what happens to plagiarists.

Wow. What a loser. I would be mad too if someone took my art and photocopied it and then drew over it and made it their own AND not giving any credit to the original artist. But then again he is the product of Gene Simmons so this doesnt surprise me. I heard he isn't just doing this with Bleach also. He stole images from other mangas as well.

On the wiki page it says he also steals images/lines/characters from people who post their stuff on deviantart. I almost feel like that is worse than ripping of bleach or fma.

He's copied Bleach, Hellsing, One Piece, Dogs: Bullets and Carnage, and some others. The wiki doesn't say which ones anymore. They changed and added some stuff in one day. .____.

Maybe he was hoping if he plagiarized more recent Bleach chapters/characters than American audiences would be none the wiser because Viz hasn't got that far into the series as far as I know.

Edit: So I wasn't the only one who thought Repo Men seemed like a ripoff of Repo. And freaking deviantart wants its members to support that... tsk tsk.

Repo Men may have the same base plot, but they are very different. Repo Men focuses on the repossessing of organs. Repo the Genetic Opera focuses on everything but that. Besides, there are plenty of differences. Also, Repo Men is based off the book The Repossession Mambo. The author is the writer of the movie.

It's kinda funny, I just remembered the mangaka that created Psyren got some flack for having a very similar art style as Tite Kubo, but he never ripped off stories or character. Though I thought the beginning was kind of a rip off of Gantz, haha.

Not a problem. You'd think you'd see a major difference in the commercials. The red band trailer is epic. It's not for those with a weak stomach. There's not much on Repo Men, but from the trailer I can tell that there are differences. It's not as dark and not gothy like Repo. It's more light and looks like it has humor. One huge difference is that Repo Men isn't a musical. lol Besides, you can't really call it a complete rip off if only one thing is the same. But who knows how similar the two are. We'll have to wait for the movie to come out to see how similar they really are. Can't really get too much from just a trailer and very little information, but this story isn't really original either. Nothing is really original anymore. Just look at Avatar. lol

Doujin's just fanart. As long as you acknowledge the source material, I see nothing wrong with it. I don't think people should make money off of doujin (at least not without a portion of it going to the original artist), but Japan isn't as stringent with copyright as the US is.

Heck, I do fanart myself...but I'm not so arrogant as to think I should ever make money off it. Though I think my Kaa vs. Kikyo piece is pretty awesome. Well, the idea is, anyway.

Plagarism is plagarism though, and Nick Simmons should be kicked repeatedly by one of his dad's spiked boots until it sets in.
