Ive been wanting a tattoo for years now, but for some reason i've always put it off. Now i'm kind of glad I put it off because the design I chose years ago just doesn't look good to me anymore. I recently went to a local parlor, LibertyTattoo, and looked around at some designs. I found two really nice ones, one being a half sleeve tribal that I think is insane but the price matches how insane it is lol. The other one was an american eagle with the american flag in the background, and this one the price is a little bit within my range, but I was really looking for something for my entire upper left arm / shoulder. Any suggestions / opinions for those who have gotten one before?

Btw im open to all thoughts and suggestions on designs. I only chose those two because they were the most appealing at the time, but any suggestions will be looked at xD

I can't say much on ideas but I had my tattoo done by Seth @ Liberty Tattoo and I highly HIGHLY recommend him!! My first/only tattoo (so far) and he was very patient and honestly, it didn't hurt! Felt like a backscratch (okay, except for when it was at the top of my spine).

It was done October 24th, 2009...I have to go back to get it colored in, actually. And within like a week or two....crud.

Here's a linky-loo to my pic:

Ok first of all if you are getting a full sleeve it is going to be tons of money to begin with so be prepared for that and with color you will have to go back for coloring sessions. It WILL be painful no matter what anyone says. It wasnt that bad for me but you still feel it like a bee sting or to some worse.

This is my personal opinion but NEVER get a tattoo of something you find in the books. Its cliche and has no meaning and thousands of others will have the exact same boring tattoo. Give your tattoo artist some credit!!! Sure you can look through them for ideas but never get one directly from the books. They will be stencils and just look crappy because its basically clip art. Who wants free clip art tattoos? Newbs.

You should think long and hard about why you want a tattoo and if you are more than 100% okay with it being on your body for the rest of your life. Never just go with something because of the price tag. You need to love the duck out of it...really. Because for most people their tattoo gets old and they just end up hating it. Like you said, the design before you didnt like so your taste changed so make sure you want this design and have it have some meaning to you that wont change. Thats the best advice I can give you. Dont let money get in the way because this will be something on your body forever. My advice is to not ask for advice on what to get. Its 100% your call.

And you don't want an octopus squatting on your brain, do you, son?"

I was looking at some of his work on their site. He does some nice detail. Just wondering, how did you decide on your design? Like, did it have some sort of personal meaning, or did it just look interesting?

I have a high pain tolerance, so I'm actually looking forward to seeing how it will feel =p As for the price range, the reason I was looking for a relatively cheap one was because I'm going on atleast 2, mabye 3 trips this year so i'm not sure on how much spending cash ill have left. I know it has to be a design that I will want for the rest of my life, which was my reason for the american eagle. Ive always been and always will be patriotic to america. As for the tribal one, it just has this amazing feel to it when I look at it.

I've got 2 tats so far & both have a personal meaning when I got them.

My first was a yin-yang, it's gold & silver. Course the silver faded by the time it had healed & the gold is starting to fade after 5yrs. I got it cause it's a symbol of Balance. Something I was looking for at that time in my life.

My second tat is the kanji for Kitsune. It's my nickname & fits me very well. It's a reminder of the side of myself I don't show most times.

I'm gonna look into Liberty Tattoo since I'm planning to get my third tat soon. I'm getting the Fairy Tail symbol. Not only is it an awesome symbol (& will be my first anime-related tat), I really like what it stands for to me. Every member of Fairy Tail is true to themselves & what they believe in, they won't back down when their beliefs are challenged even if they're outmatched, & They stand besides each other no matter what the odds.

I actually took months to decide to get not because I wasn't sure if I wanted it, but if I could truly live up to what it meant to me.

Thats pretty awsome Kitsu. Do you think getting color is worth it? I mean, once the color starts to fade, do you start to regret having it?

I think color is totally worth it. It makes the design pop and bright and so much more beautiful than in black and white. Some things do look good in black and white, but I prefer color. I love having color in my life.

I have a blue rose on my ankle and it is really pretty. I got it in September of '09 and it's still lookin' great. I'm hoping to get my second one later this month or next month. I just need to decide where I'm going to get it and then ask my tattoo artist how much it would cost so I know how much I need to put aside for it.

No I don't regret it, it simply faded cause he didn't go deep enough. I do regret getting it at Wolf's Tattoo cause they are overpriced. My yin-yang is 2 inch diameter & costed $250. I'll probably get it touched up when I get my other tat depending on how much they charge.

Like Lina said coloring depends on the design. The Kitsune kanji on my neck is black & I don't think it would look good in color personally. On the other hand, my yin-yang still looks good even when the color has started to fade.

If you see me at ACen, I'll be glad to show my tats. I'll probably be at the Haruhi Suzumiya photshoot & the Ah! My Goddess panel for certain.

My goodness! That much!? Mine is around 3 inches in diameter and it only cost me $80.

I agree with you on the kanji. I am getting the kanji for flower (along with a cherry blossom) and I don't think it would look good in a different color. I think it would look much prettier in black. The cherry blossom will be in color.

I too will be willing to show you my tattoos if you want to see them. Toushiro. =) I'll be at the Ah! My Goddess Panel also. lol

Well to be fair I asked for it to look metalic like there was a bit of a reflection. It's hard to explain exactly. Maybe I get post pics tomorrow *looks at clock* later today, but I've got get to bed.

I know I won't be hard to spot at the AMG panel cause I'm planning to cosplay Urd.

I can't wait to see it. I bet it looks super awesome. Either way, it shouldn't cost you $250 just for it to look metallic.

I was thinking of doing Belldandy, but I dunno anymore. ; 3; I'll probably wear something Sgt. Frog. lol I'm glad you won't be hard to spot. I hate not being able to find someone. lol

I might check out that panel =p

As for price range, think a half sleeve for around 400$ is reasonable? After hearing your prices it sounds like it is, but im still curious. As of right now im really leaning towards the half sleeve, but I need to think it over for a bit. Also, think if i went in and asked they would be able to stencil in the design so I can see how it looks over like a week or two? Im not sure if people do this, I was just reading an article and some guy suggested it.

I haven't gotten any yet but I am getting a Tattoo to match one of my good friends tatt's ( She has a pair of Angel Wings and back in High School we promised to get a matching set of Tatt's )

So I am getting demon wings to counter balance her Angel ones.

But money is important plus I dislike pain. From what I've looked into time = money, full sleeve tatt's are going to bleed you dry of cash ( no pun intended )

Seth @ Liberty Tattoo eh? Interesting...

Well whatever you decide on getting please post it after it heals! Pics right after it is done just look bad and the aloe you put on it makes it shiny.

One good tip is to really get to know your tattoo artist.

Will post pics once it heals if I remember.

Btw, I think ive decied to go the patriotic way instead of tribal tattoo considering it has more meaning / from what ive read on other forums people think tribal tattoos look really stupid if your not in any kind of tribe.

As im looking for something for an american eagle with the american flag in the background, im thinking of adding the saying "Live for today, Look forward to tomottow".

Found an image I think would be perfect for what im looking for. Although instead of it saying "Liberty and Justice for all" I would have it saying the Live for today saying. Opinions? Check it out

I think that would be really neat. What would be more bad@ss is if the artist made it look like an actual patch sewn on your skin and have it with your saying Live For Today on the top and Look Forward To Tomorrow on the bottom.

The half-sleeve tribal sounds cool, depending on the design.

Do iiiiiit.
Keiichi-chan runs it, and I'll be helping out this year. ^__^

As for the whole "make it mean something special" view: Do what you want, man. A tattoo only has to be as meaningful as you make it. Some people just get them because they think they're cool looking, and others get them for really personal reasons.

To each their own.

Just make sure you think about it, as to make sure you won't regret it when you're an old dude.

Lol, after reading what you said I started to want the tribal design again =p It just looks so amazing. Im starting to think its going to come down to a flip of a coin in the end. I hate making big decisions =p

I personally don't like tatoos, but there are just some people who can really rock the hell out of them!

HOWEVER;

A girl in my consumer ed class got one ON HER FACE. It goes up her cheek, and seeing that she's a preppy platinum blonde, it looks AWFUL because it is so noticable. I say you should save up and get the one that means the most to you, because the people who look best in tatoos are the ones who have tatoos that embody who they are, so it doesn't look like some blot of ink on their skin, but a part of them.

That's my spiel. My big revellion is gonna be some highlights, a tan, and a bellybutton ring. :)
Acen 2011: I lost my red kodak camera. If you found it, PLEASE contact me. I really miss it.

I like to joke around with getting body parts labeled. lol

I couldn't get a tattoo on my face. Just about anywhere else is ok with me and I emphasize, just about. lol I'm having a hard time deciding where I'm going to get my next tattoo. I'm probably going for the top of my right arm. My boyfriend and I so far have tattoos (well I have one) on the opposite sides. He has an Alucard on his bottom right leg while I have my blue rose on my left ankle. He has the Hellsing cross on his upper left arm and I plan on getting the kanji for flower (in cursive. It's so pretty) with a cherry blossom flower on my upper right arm (I don't have the design for this tattoo quite figured out yet). I've been thinking of other places like my back, back of my neck, shoulder blade, etc., but if I'm going to get more tattoos, I want to be able to show them off with pride, but still be able to keep them hidden for work. I almost refuse to get a tattoo on my back (especially a tramp stamp), though I've been wanting to get a tramp stamp of Tramp from Lady and the Tramp just because the idea just makes me giggle and I love Disney.

Ladies ladies ladies, if you find a man whose only concern about a woman is her breast size, he just may be dumb enough to believe you if you say you have Ds when you have Bs.
