1) Prostitution isn't legal anywhere in Montana. In Nevada, everywhere but Las Vegas. There you hire, um, escorts. Or so I've heard. In Montana, you must resort to the "find a seedy bar" method. Or so I've heard.
2) We get rain in Montana (a LOT once you get in the mountains). Nevada is a frickin' desert.
3) We have nuclear weapons in Montana. Nevada gets nuclear weapons blown up in it. Well, used to, but then people got concerned with silly radiation. Stupid Nevadans. Don't they want mutant powers?
4) Music in Nevada: in Vegas, probably hip-hop and dance. In Montana...well, people here believe that nothing decent in rock 'n' roll has occurred since 1968. Country rules everything else (aside from one station that inexpicably plays gangsta rap). Help me, I am in hell.
5) You can get everything in Las Vegas. Montana? Not so much.
6) We have bears in Montana. Nevada doesn't. We have wolves in Montana. Nevada doesn't. Montana bears eat people. Montana wolves just haven't considered it yet.
7) I don't know what stats are in Nevada, but Montana is the most heavily armed state in the Union. Throw in the nukes, and we are the most heavily armed state ON EARTH.
You silly people from Illinois! I fart in your general direction!

I loved this series when I first saw it, before being spoiled with all the high end animation and everything.
But I have to say, I love old school anime A LOT more than I like a lot of the newer stuff their releasing these days.
MAZE I feel didn't age all that well with the passing of the years but yet no matter what I love this series and its voice acting in english! Same with Slayers ( Though Jap is prefered ). I feel that back when anime wasn't so generally loved and popular that it was a lot more original and was done a lot better, cuz they HAD to do a good job to get it to sell at all. Nowadays, throw together the anime with some nice animation, a decent story line and some big name voice actors and you've got a cash cow to ride out for a while before you release the NEXT big thing.
I feel that a lot of the newer animes have become...unoriginal and too based on plot line formulas. Newer anime I feel isn't very fresh except for the few titles that are actually trying to be somewhat original with what they are.
I am also finding myself getting tired of the CG animation which is always so clean and pristine, the good ol' hand drawn animes I feel had more character.
This is my opinion, but I love old school anime a lot more than the newer stuff with but a few exceptions ( Kanon and Clannad, you complete me! )
I am also tired of hearing all the same voice actors for everything, in both Japanese and English dubbing...
Funny that you mention the days when anime was rarer, the era had it's own titles that were considered must-watch that most people don't remember anymore. I also think newer anime is much more enjoyable if you're familiar with the older ones. Anime like Excel Saga and Magical Shopping Arcade Abenobashi are full of homages to older titles. Besides, how can you enjoy anime like Macross Frontier and Gundam Unicorn without knowing what happened before all that?

Well I don't think I need to list the new school.
I think the only problem I have is that whenever I quote an old school anime a lot of people don't know what I am talking about. Even when I yelled out "Tetsuo!" The only response that I got was, "what anime is that from?"

No, but it just makes me feel older and wiser. I always thought that the movie was essential for anime fans, personally I didn't like it too much.
Besides half the time these people are busy arguing on Naruto v.s. Bleach.
Man I need actual anime fans.

Well just because you like bleach and naruto it doesnt mean you arent an actual anime fan but if thats ALL you like...then you are not an anime fan. Ick. I couldnt stand that convo of Bleach vs Naruto. X__X I'd hand them Monster or Slayers and be like BAM.

Personally I think you need to be 6 different kinds of brain dead to just watch Bleach and Naruto. As a joke I said that Konata and Yotsuba can take any one of those guys...yeah. At least they are starting to watch Death Note?
Ah forget this, I am going to the gaming group, I know someone there has played Jade Cocoon.

I am a Slayers fanboy by every definition. Slayers was the series that got me into serious anime watching and paved the path for me to become the anime fan I am today, I remember watching it on the international channel at 9pm every night and recording it to VHS and a few times I'd fight with family who wanted to use the tv at 9pm to try and prevent them from messing with my Slayers!
I watched the entire original 3 seasons from beginning to end on that channel, ah memories...
Some classics are classics because they are good, and some are classics because they are different from the norm.

I don't remember how much I payed to get the game, but it has been worth every penny.
Of course I am not saying that everyone who watches/reads Bleach or Naruto are brain dead. Although just to watch that series when there are other anime series?

Without it being turned into a Jade Cacoon discussion. I played it years ago, it actually is in storage right now being perfectly contained. To put it short, the story was pretty interesting and the system is actually fun.
Anyway, just so that my post isn't much of a waste. Who here went back to watch a certain anime series they grew up with only to found it to be really mediocre?

I wouldn't necessarily call it anime, but I have done that with old cartoons I used to watch. Thundercats, Dungeons and Dragons, GI Joe...man, they have not aged well. I didn't remember how bad the voice acting was on T-Cats, and I was screaming at the kids in D&D how they were all about to die because they split the party. GI Joe--well, that has low expectations to begin with, but damn, the various animal mascots were smarter than the Joes, who were smarter than Cobra. I really hope the live-action movie is better than that (haven't worked up the nerve to watch it yet).
Surprisingly, Transformers (old series) and Thundarr the Barbarian have done better. Transformers is still very good, as long as they don't throw humans into it, and Thundarr...Thundarr was always stupid, but it never took itself seriously to begin with.

Yay Rocko! I grew up on stuff like Rocko and Ren and Stimpy. I was a kid and thought they were pretty funny, but I know now how disgusting they really were. I think cartoons got away with a bit more back then. I've watched a couple of episodes of Spongebob, and some of Chowder and stuff and they are nowhere near as gross as the old stuff was.
