Well, there have been commercials for conventions before, so why not Acen? I'm not talking about anything big or embarassing, but maybe a little air time could get more people to come. And if that was the case, the commercial could pay for itself in no time!

I say they could pull it off. It's big enough to warrant one, and lord knows most of us watch the TV enough we'd eventually see it enough times to warrant going there.

I know that even with the talent on staff a great commercial could be made. Footage shouldn't be too hard to come by (I know the staff was talking about or there was some sort of rumor floating around that there was footage of ACen taken, it just hadn't been played with much at all. This could be false, and I may have just been imagining things as I am want to do. x.x) Even some simple footage editing and a voice-over script could be easily done. But again, it's all about staff and what can be done. Along with the rest of the convention stuff to plan, a commercial might be a bit too much. (And where there is one commercial, a series tends to follow.)

Yea i definitely think acen should have a commercial. i mean, the Chicago Comic Con had one and it showed footage of the Donlad E. Stephens convention center (and when i saw it i was all like "zomg, i walked in that spot before!").

I think it would be a good idea if the commercial is spiffy and not craptacular like a certain other commercial. You'd just need to air it at the right time and right channel.

What about putting a commercial on Youtube? It'd be a 24/7 linkable, postable ACen broadcast! (And pretty much a free deal, I'd think. ^^d)

For tv airing, why not try the Science or SyFy channels? I know a number of ACen-goers who watch those channels pretty frequently, and lord knows they need more uncreepy ads & less Viagra/viagraesque ads at all hours of night and day, lol. Pretty much any time slot could work, though I'd say go with after school/work hours to maximize the potential. Or, if you're thinking basic tv networks, it'd probably be best to go with evening ABC (high viewership @ news hours and certain weekday showtimes) or morning/news WGN (their peak viewership hours). If it's possible budget-wise, maybe try both? It'd be more expensive, but the potential viewership is astronomical, and people would definitely get talking..

I would get so excited to see a commercial for ACen! (Er... provided it doesn't become the next SakuraCon commercial...)

Then again, I (nearly) fangirled to see a commercial for Crate and Barrel on the Weather Channel... ::shrugs::

...but if you decide to do one, posting the network(s), date(s) and time(s), and maybe a copy on youtube would be a good idea!


Are commercial spots cheaper nowadays? There seem to be more infomercial-type products getting TV lately--they wake me up at night more often.

I've gotta wonder, would ACEN have enough funds to pick up a commerical? Have any of the staffers picked up on this idea yet? I've seen a few comic convention commercials when I travel, but would any of them be able to contact local cable companies or network stations and get the channel to air among Chicago's wonderful batches of cheesy local programming? We could be right up there with Legends like the 80s Novelty Golf add that ran for 20+ years, or the eagle-man insurance!

Also, if we do a commercial, we need a musical jingle. One so catchy, that it can give 773-202-BEEPBEEPBEEPBEEP LUNA a run for its money!

But a commercial can get the word out. Maybe like a "serious one" about the con, and then a funny one? that might work.
