My grandparents live next to a farm/ butcher. Just went across the street, got a spine, cleaned it, and BOOM. A decapitated head with the spine still attached for my Elfen Lied cosplay.

I'm not sure if I should be worried or not. At first I was thinking, "What the hell kind of a costume requires a COW'S SPINE in its construction?" Then you revealed that it was a prop, and I said, "Oh. Okay."

It was my first cosplay ever! D<

But don't worry, I made a new mask for the next year... and a new sword...

Yay, this thread's still alive! XD

Well, I'm getting stuff together, so technically I've officially "started" on cosplay, and I had a great idea a few days ago--cashew containers! Once I get them cut and painted, they'll be used for the "bases" that the soda bottles (i.e., hourglass bulbs) will sit on (basically, they'll keep the sand in. Which means I'll have to use some REALLY STRONG glue or adhesive or else it'll be a complete disaster. lol) Luckily I'll also have clay because there's that weird arch-and-curl detail around the top/bottom of the Phantom Hourglass.

The really funny thing is, I was keeping those cashew containers because they have silver-looking inner linings, which would have been great for Alan Gabriel's hand, but I dropped that cosplay. Good thing I didn't throw them away, after all.

Well, I mainly stayed in the dealers room. XD I like stuff. Unfortunately, the spine began decaying, so this year, I'll just have the decapitated head. :( I'll miss that spine.

It didn't look that wierd.

I may just buy a fake spine from ebay or a doctor's store this year, so I can reuse it.

None of mine are as creative as some of the others...but nevertheless:

Currently I'm using painted Christmas ornaments for the spheres on the earrings on my newest cosplay (Kotoha from Arata Kangatari). I've also used candle wax that I softened, melted and shaped for the shaped hilt of a sword(Hotohori from Fushigi Yuugi) and I used a cheap generic Barbie, dyed it's hair blue and used it as the fairy companion for another (Alviss from MAR). =D

O MAI. O_O

Well, today I can add yet another one. I had these flexible styrofoam pieces to use for the eye/hood detail on Link's Bombchu, but I was having a heck of a time making them stay on the body while the glue dried. So when I went up to the kitchen in despair, I remembered---TOOTHPICKS!

Now my Bombchu's sitting downstairs drying, with about three dozen toothpicks sticking out of its face. XD I felt cruel while sticking the toothpicks in, too. Darn you, Bombchus, for being so cute.

I couldnt figure out a way to make shoulder armor curve the I wanted it to for my Advent Children Cloud cosplay. I had noticed that my trash can lid had a curve revolving door that was the perfect shape for my armor so ripped my lid apart. After cutting it in half and pading it up it was perfect!

That's great! XD That reminds me of when my friend used poke balls as a mold to shape her Albel armor.

As for me, I have yet to cosplay. But if I can hurry and get my stuff, I'd be a coat hanger.

Insulation foam for oversized props. Also a bathing suit bottom, since it was the smallest black "skirt' KMart had (but that isn't that odd).

A decorative piece off of the top of the thing that holds your curtains back, I am using it for Sister Esther's Gian rosary necklace, A small wooden bat with the handle shaved down to a point and 3 very small wooden wheels all glued together to the bottom of the decorative piece. Not sure if any of that is weird or just innovative.

Weird is innovative. Anyway, I used more toothpicks, this time to PAINT. The flowers I needed to put on Yumi's fan were frickin' small and circular (kind of like daisies), so I couldn't do it with a typical brush, not even those extremely fine-tipped ones.

Thong underwear for Movie Col. Mustang's Eyepatch. It let just enough light through my eye didnt wind up getting sensitized and messed up like when you wear an eyepatch too long. Quite comfortable too.

Weirdest thing I used for a cosplay...

Well I haven't done it yet but for my possible Bankotsu cosplay next year I might use a bucket for the chestplate xD

Ones I've done before, I'd have to say that time I made my Alucard hat out of posterboard for ACen 09 (not that out there but it was awkward for me). When I took it off you could see the lime green posterboard inside and everything lol

I made a lot of plans for other cosplay, but my budget was severely cut, so sorry to those whom I told I will be there cosplaying from the anime, and I might not actually get to do that cosplay.

Let's see... XD Door handles for my jakotsutou, toy handcuffs for Shito Tachibana... making zori by hand for battousai Kenshin required placemats, duct tape, stuffing, broken flip flops, and vicegrips. Also, using a belt as a necklace for my Nana Osaki cosplay has gotten me some VERY strange looks. XD

run heavy fishing line down the spine and soak it in hydrogen peroxide (to break down the soft organics) and then bleach. I haven't ever done this before.....

another option is to put the peroxide in a spray bottle and let the sucker sit in the hot sun for a couple weeks as you spray it everyday. then soak it in the bleach (only for an afternoon or so) to kill the bacteria/smell and make it pretty and clean. (I found this actually does the best, trick is to not let it get rained on)

The hardest part is keeping it together after the chord breaks down. heavy fishing line seems to work the best if you don't want it seen. unless you don't care much about that you can then run a nylon bungee cord through it.

We've mostly done heads, but my brother and I did it with a spine the dogs pulled from the "marsh" a few summers back.

.............re-reading this... I sound creepy...
Kurogane= 98% --> I want a better cape, and I need the head thingy. (I don't see it making a comeback for 2011, but I'm still gonna finish it!!!

France= 30% --> got the pants and did a first draft coat. Have a wig but not sure I like it.
