Just remember, if you're planning on going into Canada, bring your passport. They're pretty anal about checking that now. Especially if you use the Detroit entrances. Right across the border are a lot of clubs and a casino though and the legal age in Windsor is 19...for everything...Also note though that this doesn't stop them from giving you a MIP the minute you cross back into the US and have alcohol in your system. So be smart and responsible about it.

This. Especially the last bit about tickets.

EDIT: Yes, in fact, it is apparently important enough that I would repost it directly after. : | Lemme alone, it's late, my brain's asleep.

It should also be noted as I assume most of you have never crossed the border before. Border patrol does not screw around. They have every right to strip your vehicle, search it, not put it back together, and strip search you in very uncomfortable ways. If you want to cross the border while acting like idiots, you will likely get what you deserve. Basically, these people do not screw around and you shouldn't either. Security is as tight if not more than if you were boarding an aircraft. Though if you don't give them any reason to suspect you, you will likely be okay.

I don't plan on doing anything when I go over the border. More like browse around. I'm treating the age for drinking and such as if it were the legal age in America. I'm only 19 (20 at the time of Youma) and I will pretend that the age for drinking and gambling, etc. is 21. I don't want to get in trouble on the US side, so I'm being safe and acting as if I'm still not old enough to drink and such on the Canada side.

I've been over the border quite a few times. Hell, I've been to Europe. So I understand the strictness of border patrol.

the interesting part that always gets me is the fact that the bridge and tunnel to canada are privately owned. (or at least the last time I checked they were.. I could be wrong)

From Detroit to Canada? Well, I've never been over the border through Detroit. Always went through New York because my family and I would go to Niagara Falls so I wouldn't know.

I ain't foolin' around in D-town. Stayin' my butt in the hotel. Youmacon was my first time too. Loved it, but was shocked to know it was going to be in Detroit. You all know what goes on in Detroit.

I heard from Detroit locals that the part of town it is held in is not so bad. Think about how Otakon is in Baltimore. I have a feeling the only thing that will be a real worry will be the wandering panhandlers and hobos, which is a problem in every city.

The part where the con center is being held is one of the safest areas in Detroit. Just keep the basic safety guidelines in order and you should be safe. Always stick to the buddy system while wondering off property.

There's fast food places and a CVS in the con center proper. You don't even have to leave the building.

If you do plan on going to Canada here a few things you should know. Im going to Niagara Falls in June so ill just give you a heads up for those. Like Elf said, you will need a passport if you plan on crossing the border.

There are two types of passports. If you plan on going to Canada, you can apply for a passport card. Its slightly cheaper from the passport book, but its only good for the Mexico/Canada border on land and sea only. So if you plan on going to Japan using the card it will not work. That's where the passport book comes in handy and is the better bargain. Mines cost $100 and it will take 8 weeks to be mailed to you. Yep. A full month. If you want your passport to arrive faster it will cost yous $60 more for it to be expedited. Passports are good for up to 10 years

So if you need a passport better get one asap and not wait until the month Youmacon starts. The fee for a passport is supposed to go up as well. Here is the site to go to for a form.

http://travel.state....1/ds11_842.html

Pretty much everything is self explanatory about what else is needed for first timers getting a passport. I can answer any questions you may have about the process.

Well, the Bridge to Canada is like 10~15 mins away. The Tunnel to Canada is right next to the RenCen. Just remember to be back before the con starts ^^

I agreed we should have a buddy system
Even though my older cousin(19) and my 2 other oldest cousin live in sertan part detriot
I'm still scard of going to my older cousin house because because some house that are baned or destroy and including parts of detroit that looks scary >.<

But I where the con is at IS safe because I went to camp with my friend and when when to the place that is the same as the con and there a big water fount were if is really hot out side in the summer and you don't have a swimming pool you can cool off there :3.

As for hobos, I could care less they look harmless...I think ^_^'

Beside I would stay at the con anyway not because of the out side but there so much stuff to do that I won't even be thinking about hobos XD
