I would like to cover crowd control relations. I would like everyone who's on staff whenever they have experience or not, to help out with the crowd situation. The attendance last year was way more than I expected (even with pre-registration). And I didn't have enough security staff to cover everyone. So this time, everyone on staff will be under crowd control.
Crowd Control Jobs
- Oversee the attendees, making sure no one causes any trouble.
- Provide any information to an attendee who's not sure what's going on.
- Deal with relation problems, making sure everyone is in control and keeping it safe.
- Handle surrounding attendees when traveling from one point to another.
Registration
There will be 3 stations: Registration, Pickup, & Badge. We must make sure that every attendee get what they're given provided by us.
Registration Station
- Registration station workers will provide registration sheets for attendees to sign if they do not have a form signed. If they do, send them to the pickup station.
- Once the attendee completes their form. Tell them to bring it with them until they reach the badge station, but they need to go through the pickup station first.
- Each attendee (including children) must sign a form. We must account every attendee at SoyCon.
- Tell them not to fold the forms. This is for organization reasons.
Pickup Station
- Sent form registration station. Attendees must come to this station to pickup a few things.
- Each attendee must obtain water, a pack of snacks, and an info packet.
- After they obtain these items, send them to the badge station. Make sure they still have their registration form.
Badge Station
- Attendees will line up to obtain their badge cards.
- Each attendee will get a SoyCon badge card and they must sign their name on the back of each card with a sharpie.
- Once the attendees are done, they are free to roam until registration is done.
Event Judging
Judging for events on the picnic day are limited. Pretty much we have cosplay craftsmanship judges, but other events are still open. Idol, Talent, and Improv judging are still needed to be filled. Contact me if you're interested.
Snacks and Water - We did have an issue last year about people being hungry and/or thirsty. I know it might be a hassle, but would anyone like to carry a backpack full of water and/or snacks. This way attendees can run to you if they are hungry/thirsty. It's kinda heavy to carry around, but if you're ok with it, then it's fine.
That's pretty much what I have down so far. The rest is just detail explanation. Although, depending on what JAM/Columbia can provide us, the job roles may change. These jobs are planned for the photoshoot/picnic combo.
Also, let me know what day can you make it. Please avoid saying you can make it one day and then not show up for that day.
If anyone has any questions, just contact me.

Given with some thought with the cosplay judges and myself, we are taking the commission cosplay category out and replacing it with "character portrayal". This new category will consist of entrants being able to act like the character that they're cosplaying as. Anyone with a costume can participate. Each entrant will be given at most 30 seconds to perform their character. This category can count as a walk-on. Also, you may also be a double-entrant with this category. So if you're participating in the craftsmanship section, you may also enter in the character portrayal section as well. But you can't do craftsmanship and found item, since they're two different categories. Registration forms for the cosplay masquerade is TBA.
Another update, it seems that J.A.M./Columbia College hasn't really gotten back to me yet, although I had a friend telling me that their clubs are having some issues, so I feel it's better to take some weight off the shoulders and not run SoyCon indoors this year. So which means that the photoshoot is officially active as an outdoor event on Saturday.
As for the picnic, due to some issues that's out of my hands, Chain Ze Stigma will not be able to perform at this year's SoyCon.
Since the band are unable to perform, there goes our electrical equipment. So, we are accepting anyone who has a generator to bring for SoyCon so we can run some electricity during the picnic. We might have speakers and a mic, but it's up in the air. Mainly this is all for SoyCon Idol. It's possible that SoyCon Idol can drop. We're not sure yet. We'll let you know in time.

So we can do, male characters, female characters, game, original design/artwork, anime, etc.
It's an idea I want to do, it'll be interesting to pull off.
Cosplay Weddings
- We have 3 official mock wedding spots left.
- Send me a message if you want to do a cosplay mock wedding.
SoyCon Idol
- Since our electrical equipment is gone, we don't really have anything for SoyCon Idol to run. Unless we can find an alternative, this event is on hold.

Ya know, if we can get a battery run mic, accapella could always work.

All we need is a mic, speaker(s), a player that plays ipod and/or cds, and power. That's all we need for this event.
In other news,
It's been really slow lately. Well, maybe because everyone is busy with school and the con/meetup season hasn't hit yet. That's alright. We're still a long way from the event. I might as well just post something here so it doesn't seem like we're dead. So I'll just post up a list of photoshoot shot list for SoyCon Day 1.
Photoshoot Shot List
- Group Shots > These groups will be split into 3 since covering one massive group shot is way too difficult to capture so cutting it down will be better.
- Anime > All characters originated from anime & manga.
- VG > All characters originated from video game. (Visual Novels count as video game.)
- Other > Lolitas, Original Characters, Comic, Sci-Fi, Internet, etc.
- Couples > All characters with a Male & Female pairing. (No Yaoi/Yuri pairings)
- Yaoi/Yuri/Alternative > All characters with Yaoi, Yuri, or Other Pairings
- Males > All male characters.
- Female > All female characters.
- Cosplay Groups > Pretty much if there's a large number of cosplayers from the same series. (Looking for 5 or more counting as a group)
- Staff > Whoever is on SoyCon staff.
- Special Requests > There will be a list setup for special action/group shots. Please sign on list for requests. No solo shots, unless approved by me.
That should be good enough of a list for the photoshoot portion. This part of the photoshoot will happen after registration. It's a good way to start off the day.
One more thing, I would like to announce that during the photoshoot portion, each attendee will be responsible finding their own food. Having a large group going to different restaurants will not work so I'll give each attendee freedom to leave the photoshoot anytime they want to grab something to eat. The photoshoot will still continue from start to finish. Please let a friend know before you leave so later on you can catch up with us and not miss all the action!

There's a few changes for this year's SoyCon:
1.) There will be no pre-registration for SoyCon this year. Everyone must attend and sign a registration form to recieve your badge card. For faster processing, please visit the "Document Forms" section and download the badge registration form. If you're having trouble downloading the form, please send me an e-mail. Please print the forms out and bring them to the SoyCon meeting location @ the museum campus.
2.) The photoshoot day will contain no stops for food and drinks. This year, each attendee will be responsible finding their own food and drinks. You are welcome to leave and comeback. Please be sure you know where to find us so keep in contact with a friend that will be staying while you're gone. The photoshoot route will continue from start to finish.
3.) The minimal attendance age requirement has been changed for this year's SoyCon. Anyone who is 14 years or younger must be accompanied by a parent or guardian. Ages 15+ may attend without a consent of an adult/guardian.
4.) For those who are doing cosplay weddings, there will be limit of 5 cosplay weddings. Slots are filling up fast so don't miss out!
5.) The Battlefield has been moved to the photoshoot day. I would assume it will be more active since the photoshoot is the bigger day.
6.) Everyone will be now responsible finding their own parking for SoyCon if you're driving to the photoshoot. We will not be meeting at 9th St. and Wabash anymore due to the increasing populating size. Please make sure you find a good space with a reasonable price. We will be meeting at the museum campus.
7.) Few events are added. The photoshoot now has a scavenger hunt and a photoshoot gathering. The picnic now has a talent show. For more details, visit our website.
And for a few reminders...
1.) Pre-Registration for Cosplay Masquerade, Improv Masquerade, SoyCon Idol, & SoyCon's Got Talent are available. Forums can be found under "Document Forms". Rules & Details are found under the "Events" section. Contact me if you have any problems or questions. Pre-Registration ends on June 25, 2010 @ 11:59:59pm.
2.) Please read the website, there will be information that you may need to know before arriving.
3.) Cosplay is not mandatory, but welcomed. If you don't have a cosplay, don't worry, you can still attend.
4.) Please make sure that you have a ride there and back. We highly recommend you make those plans before the day arrives.
5.) Schedule yourself to come early. Things might happen and you might not show up on time. I highly recommend coming earlier than the scheduled meetup time.
6.) Please be considerate that we're at an open public space. Be kind to your surroundings and they'll be kind to you. Ignore the negativity and just have fun.
7.) Weather hasn't been looking too perfect for the past 2 SoyCons. If there by any chance of rain, SoyCon may be moved. Please keep in contact to your sources if weather is not on our side. SoyCon will be post poned if rain permits.
8.) Dress well according to the weather. Heavy clothing isn't recommended since it's in the summer. Wear something lighter and easier to move around in since we're walking alot too.
If you have any questions, don't hesitate to contact me! I don't bite!

It's Chicago. I don't think we can give you a definite answer
But do note that, last year it was EXTREMELY hot.
On Saturday, it wasn't so much humid, but EXTREMELY dry heat. Also, take notes of the lots of walking etc. etc.
On Sunday, (granted, I was only there for about 15 minutes) it was hot AND humid. Staying in a centralized location helped, I could imagine, but still, always be prepared.

This is our small history with weather for the past 2 years.
SoyCon 1
Photoshoot - Partly cloudy. Rained the day before. Some grounds were wet earlier in the day, but dried up towards the end.
Picnic - Wonderful day. Clear skies and sunny. Perfect day for SoyCon.
SoyCon 2
Photoshoot - Had a scare due to a thunderstorm the day before. It was pretty nice at the start, but as the day went on, it got humid and hot as hell. Bad day for heavy clothing. The heat was pretty bad. Some had to leave due to the extreme heat.
Picnic - Partly cloudy. It was pretty damp because it rained overnight. Not only that, the humidity remained present. It rained a little at one point during the day.
It's extremely hard to predict outdoor weather during the summer, especially from now. It's all based on the luck of the draw on what mother nature throws at us. SoyCon 1 we had it good, SoyCon 2 gave us heat, hopefully SoyCon 3 will have great weather. I do agree with Relik, prepare the unexpected. And obviously, I cannot predict the weather nor I can control it. However, if SoyCon does have rain, it will be rescheduled a few weeks after. I'll make that announcement once SoyCon draws closer.
I wouldn't recommend wearing any heavy clothing. Weather is pretty unpredictable in Chicago so make sure you think through what you wear before the day arrives. Also, bring a couple bottles of water and snacks for yourself just in case you get hungry or thirsty, especially for the photoshoot.
