Yeah, I was thinking instead of hiding things, maybe like, events or something that happens and get picture or whatever of it, as opposed to hiding stuff randomly.

edit: finished reading last post.. and lol because it seems like people think you planned for the hot weather to be there on purpose xD

I just thought of an interesting concept with the whole scavenger hunt idea. Rather than having people finding stuff, it would be better if we used our camcorders and cameras to collect items. This way we don't need anyone carrying around extra baggage and images would be easier to access and upload online. We can call it the Photoshoot Scavenger Hunt.

Photoshoot Scavenger Hunt

Rules & Guidelines
1.) Teams will be handed a list of objectives.
2.) Each team will do what they can to accomplish as many objectives as possible.
3.) The team with the most points at the end of the photoshoot wins a prize.
4.) Teams can use video and/or photo upon submitting their entry.
5.) Team capacity max is 4 persons.
6.) The Hunt will begin at the beginning of SoyCon photoshoot and ends at the SoyCon photoshoot.
7.) Some objectives maybe restricted to video or photo, its suggested to bring a device that shoots both.
8.) Have a team name. Make it interesting.

Scoring
1.) Scores will be based on a 2 point scale. Photo submission is 1 point, video submission is 2 points.
2.) Team with the highest score wins the prize.
3.) Final scores will be posted on the SoyCon website.

Submission
1.) Photos must be in good quality. No blurriness within the picture.
2.) Videos must be in viewable quality. Please avoid sideways camera or shaky camera shots.
3.) You can submit some video and some photo, but only under different objectives. No photo and video of the same objective.
4.) You may upload your photos onto an online gallery. Send me a link to your gallery.
5.) Upload your videos to any hosting site (YouTube or Dailymotion preferred)
6.) Any errors within these submissions will nullify your entry for that item.
7.) Name your entries under this format for both video and/or photo: SoyCon 3: PSH - "Name of Objective"
8.) Photo submissions are required to have a watermark on each photo. Videos are not required a watermark.
9.) Keep all submissions under one account. I will not accept multiple accounts.

Prizes
1.) Prizes will be gift cards to a major store of your choice.
2.) Prices of gift card will depend on the size of your team.
1 Person = $20 Gift Card
2 Persons = $15 Gift Card Each
3 Persons = $10 Gift Card Each
4 Persons = $5 Gift Card Each
3.) Prizes will be mailed after final score is tallied.

Objectives (Example List)
1.) Get a group of civilians doing the Caramelldansen.
2.) Take a picture with a police officer.
3.) Sing The Pokemon Theme Song in a Restaurant
4.) Shoot a video of a cosplayer trying to get a cab and succeed.
5.) Get Child(ren) to hug a cosplayer.

This is a rough, but it's the general idea. What do you all think?

I was brainstorming on the day placement of SoyCon 3. Traditionally we had the photoshoot on a Saturday and the picnic on Sunday.

I was thinking. Would happen if SoyCon placed the picnic on Friday and the Photoshoot Saturday. Or The Photoshoot Friday and the Picnic Saturday. Or The Picnic Saturday and the Photoshoot Sunday.... what do you all think? Keep the way it is or change it up?

I was thinking more along the lines of Beach Friday, Picnic Saturday, Photoshoot Sunday.

Most of the picnic events are cosplay related and since everyone is a Saturday goer, I'd thought I get more participants for the events during that day.

I had several people giving me opinions on this matter and many of them say keep it the way it is for several reasons. One would be that not too many people can call off Friday for those who are working or in school during that time. Another would be keeping the tradition since for the past 2 SoyCons, pretty much everyone is adjusted to the way it's presented. So in all means, the Photoshoot will be kept Saturday and the Picnic will be kept Sunday.

As for the beach on Friday, we can try again for SoyCon 3. We got thunderstormed the last time so hopefully the next coming year won't be bad at all.

Going to be trying again with the Day 0 - Beach Meetup. Last year, there was an issue with the weather so we had to cancel that. Hopefully next year, we will be lucky to have fun at the beach. I'm still aiming for North Ave. Beach since it's the biggest beach I've spotted and there's rest rooms for people to change their clothes. If anyone doesn't know where it is, it's that area with the giant boat closeby Lake Short Drive. As like the other 2 days, I'm expecting to meetup there at 11:00am. When we all don't feel like staying there anymore, we can go somewhere in downtown Chicago to get something to eat.

Also, who wants to get a hotel room for SoyCon next year? No, there won't be any discount rates or booking at hotel blocks, just people who don't want to drive back and forth to Chicago since we're gonna be in the same city. I'm probably going to check in probably at the Embassy Suites that's closeby Navy Pier. Maybe we can all chip in and share the hotel room as well as the parking for the photoshoot portion on Day 1 so we don't have to spend so much.

Another note I may add:
I do need some people who are willing to drag around either coolers or backpacks full of food and drinks. Whoever wants to will be in charge making sure everyone does not get hungry or thirsty during the photoshoot.

I'll let you know if I need something. As for C.C., she needs to find a way there. I'll be extremely busy setting up and running the event. I can't afford alot of time driving her during that weekend. Unless she sleeps over at my place.

Hi everyone. Happy Belated New Year.

Now that everyone is done with the holidays, it's time to start focusing on 2010 and SoyCon 3 is just about 6 months away. Yeah, it sounds like a long time, but big events must plan early.

Overtime I've been thinking about the good things and bad things about SoyCon during these 2 past years. I'll agree that SoyCon isn't the perfect event and mistakes do happen. Some are pretty obvious and some are very small. Hopefully most or all of these mistakes are taken care of. Feel free to post your opinions from the last 2 SoyCons or even for those who attended the ACen Aftermaths in 2006 & 2007. What I'm lacking is opinions on some issues and that's probably why SoyCon 2 wasn't their best year.

Please read these issues below before posting anything else.

Here's some issues that already has been brought to me:

1.) Scheduling: Not on time, drastic and unexpected changes, too long.

- The photoshoot was going alright in the beginning, but as for the middle portion, I'll agree that it got pretty wacky. I've been told by so many people that they all were getting very hungry when I scheduled lunch hour about 2-3 hours after the 2nd location (Mini Fountain area). So I had to make a decision to let everyone get something to eat so people don't get hungry or thirsty.

- The Picnic was pretty off period. Band setting up their equipment and everyone coming in hours late, so I had to push everything back. I will reschedule events for the picnic this year so it will accomidate most of the attendee's schedules.

2.) Directions To Food Places: 1-2 Leaders was not sure where to go.

- I was asking my staff if they know where they are going to go get food. Apparently one of the groups wasn't sure where to go. I did confirm with that person and I put trust in that person to take care of the group. Not exactly what happened. I know mine and a friend of mine made it safely. I wasn't aware of the 2 other groups.

3.) The Heat: Too Hot

- I cannot control the weather. I checked the forecast everyday (a week before SoyCon) and it appears to have clear skies and might be slightly warm. Though I did had a scare when it was thunderstorming the day before. There will be no post-poning the photoshoot since I have others that came out of state or have been travelling long distances to come to SoyCon. Not everyone lives in Chicago. Another recommendation, bring umbrellas and don't wear any clothing that may be too hot in weather. Chicago weather is pretty wacky so wear something that's balanced between weathers during the month of July.

4.) The Day: Father's Day Weekend and Puerican Parade

- I was not told of these days until 1 month before SoyCon. If there's something wrong with the day as in some event in Chicago or a national holiday, please inform me ASAP and not 1 month before SoyCon. I plan so much to be on that day and changing the day will cause chaos and will conflict everyone's schedules. SoyCon 3 is held in July this year and I made sure there's no national holiday during that weekend.

5.) Hunger and Hydration

- The heat was pretty bad, but as I stated before, I can't control the weather. I didn't exploit the "Bringing water and drink" rule well enough, but for this year, I would like everyone to bring snacks and drinks to the photoshoot as you can. We did have an incident when one did not hydrate and suffered dehydration. Luckily I sent my medical team and a few staff members to take care of the situation. SoyCon 3 will may have designated people to carry around snacks or drinks if any forgets to bring theirs. But please bring a backpack of snacks and drinks so you don't need to find a location where they sell them.

6.) Too Much Walking

- I noticed alot of people where getting tired, pretty much before the Millenium Park area. I will be cutting down location areas and we will probably stay longer in some areas for either events or photoshoot purposes.

7.) Events

- One event has been removed for obvious reasons. No further details.

***If anyone has anything to contribute on how to make this event better than before. Please post. The more opinions I get, the more well-constructed this gathering will be.***

This what's going on so far, the photoshoot and picnic are currently active until further notice. I was contacted by JAM anime club, asking me if I'm still interested using their campus for SoyCon. I'm still waiting on their response and also figuring out how everything is going to work if I do accept to place it there.

As of right now, the photoshoot is going to be "Help me with any job I give you." All staff will be helping me with registration and crowd control throughout the whole day. I'll make an announcement once SoyCon photoshoot begins and have people recognize all of you. This way they will ask one of you guys if there's any questions during the photoshoot.

I would like all staff members to come a few hours early before the photoshoot starts to setup and discuss a few things before everyone arrives....

Crowd Control is going to be more open to all staff members and new roles are going to be added. Each staff member are gonna play "Kiosk" throughout the event. This way if anyone has a question, they can find a staff member and a staff member should be able to answer them. If the question is kinda complicated, come to me.

This is only if the photoshoot/picnic combo stays. If I'm able to get JAM to help me out on the location, SoyCon will have alot of changes. Photoshoot might be out, but picnic might be the same. Or picnic is out, and photoshoot moved to Sunday. I'm not sure yet, but we'll see when I talk to J.A.M.

A few updates. I've changed the scheduling for the photoshoot after a couple feedbacks from other people. Please review the schedule page. Also, we officially have a picnic location. This year, the picnic will still remain in Schaumburg, but we have a different grove. The picnic grove's location is at Ned's Brown Meadow - picnic grove #29. (Download Map Here) It's pretty close by I-290 Highway and Golf Rd. so finding it shouldn't be much of a problem.

More updates soon. If anyone wants to help out, just send me a message!
