Hello everyone, Soy Sauce here:

I would like to announce that SoyCon 3 plans are officially now in operation. Get ready for another amazing year at midwest's biggest cosplay gathering event of the summer. There will be events that will be brought back as well as new events being brought to the table. Once again, we will be having a photoshoot in downtown Chicago and a picnic at a picnic grove (location TBA). Dates are currently set to July 10th and 11th of 2010, but it's still tentative. Please browse through SoyCon's website for more details on this very large event. Remember, this is a social gathering, not an official convention. :3

Oh and BTW, this event is free!!!

Beach Day (July 9th, 2010)
Not exactly part of SoyCon, but it's a great way to get a head start before the fun weekend. Spend a full day at the beach while getting to know some of your fellow SoyCon attendees. The beach we will be meeting at is North Ave. Beach by Lake Shore Drive. Get your swimsuits and your towels, and get ready for an awesome day.

Photoshoot Day (July 10th, 2010)
The photoshoot day is a walkthrough around the parks of downtown Chicago where cosplayers will have plenty of photo opportunities in park scenaries. We will stop at places such as Museum Campus, Buckingham Fountain, & The Alter. It's also a great opportunity to interact with the SoyCon attendees and roam free to have fun. We will be meeting at the Museum Campus for Registration.

Picnic Day (July 11th, 2010)
The picnic day is more of a social interaction gathering filled with participation events and lots of food to enjoy. Don't forget, this is a potluck event so bring your own food and drinks so we will have a wide variety of things to eat. The picnic events include a singing contest, a cosplay contest, a skit contest, and a talent contest. Awards will be given. You can check out the website under "Events" for more detailed information. The picnic grove location is at Ned's Brown Meadow (Busse Woods Area) in Schaumburg, IL.

Registration
There will be no badge pre-registration this year for SoyCon. All attendees will be obtaining a badge once they arrive at SoyCon. Follow the registration process below for directions on how to obtain your SoyCon badge. Age restrictions can be found under "General Information" section.

Registration Process
1.) Download and fill out the badge registration forms. 1 person = 1 form. Forms can be found here.
2.) Print registration form and bring it to SoyCon.
3.) Hand-in registration form and you'll be directed to badge pickup line.
4.) Obtain and sign badge.
5.) You're good to go. No need to sign form again if coming back on picnic day.

Cosplayer List
If you know what you're cosplaying as, there's a cosplayer list that will be put up on the website. This is to give a good general idea on who is cosplaying who at the event. You can find the cosplayer list here >>> Cosplayer List

Yep, it's a typo. (Under SoyCon Dates) I'll have it fixed when I get home. *at school currently* My apologizes.

As I was reading this, it looks fun and cool, and I would love to go. My question is, how can these rules that are being put in place be actually enforced? Unless its a private area you physically rent out, you cant ban them from public property. I can see taking the badge away doing emotional damage so to speak, but how does this work? I'll use a decent example. Someone walks up, to the event signs up and hangs out, and decides to leave buy a beer, and come back and drink it. This person is of legal age. How can you actually stop that?

The picnic is rented out, so I do have the right to remove them from the property. As for the photoshoot portion, yes, it's very hard to keep an eye on everyone. I guess you can say "if we don't see it, it's legal." If a person buys beer, is of legal age, and comes back an drinks it, they'll be ask to finish their drink at a location separated from the gathering. They'll get a warning from any of our staff members, but if it continues, we will call the police and report to them if we need to. We do have minors within the gathering and it's best we keep them separated form drinks they're not allowed to have.

The photoshoot is officially back this year. It may be a pain to carry around 200+ people around Chicago, but now that i thought about it. It wasn't so bad.

I created a MySpace event section for those who are on MySpace, if there's anyone left on there. I just made one because it's important on getting the word out there.

Also, remember the band that played at this year's SoyCon? Chain Ze Stigma? Well, there is a poosible chance that they'll be returning to play another gig so woo!! That's gonna fun.

As for random fun during the photoshoot? Who's up for a game of Simon says? Ok, maybe not. I'm just thinking of ideas what we can do during the photoshoot.

I'm open for suggestions.

BAHAH scavenger hunt.

Yeah! I made a scavenger hunt at my party and it was soooooo fun! You could hide anime themed goodies all over!

Scavenger Hunt is a nice idea, but since we're in the middle of downtown and the most of the event isn't stationary, it would be difficult to hide things around. But I do remember that ACen's scavenger hunt requires taking video, photo, or grabbing items. So it's possible we can make a list of things involving physical activity such as Naruto hanging on a tree or have 5 random civilians do the Caramelldansen. Would that make more sense? And doable I assume?

Another interesting activity during the SoyCon photoshoot is have a dance gathering hour where someone brings a battery powered boombox and put in a CD of songs that people can dance to. Now we don't have to restrict ourselves to Hare Hare Yukai and Caramelldansen, if anyone that wants to do a routine that most of us don't really know (Para Para or Love and Joy). By all means go for it. Maybe bringing more than one boombox would be a good idea since not all of us want to do fight over whom wants to do their song and dance first.

Also, stating the obvious, I know that everyone was dying in the humidity at SoyCon 2. I would like to ask everyone to not come up to me and complain on how hot is or why I chose a day on how the weather was brutally hot. The reason I cannot change the date at the last minute is because many people had plans to come on that day and that day only, such as calling off of work or for those travelling long distances to get there. (We even had people flying out of state in order to come to SoyCon and it wouldn't be fair for them if I changed it on the last minute.)

One thing I want to mention is to bring enough drinks and snacks to the photoshoot. Please do not come to SoyCon on an empty stomach or with nothing to drink. We had an incident where one did not eat and wasn't keeping oneself hydrated, especially on how humid it was. Thankfully, my medical team took care of the person and handled the situation well to get that person back home safely and get some care.

If you don't feel so well, notify me or any of the SoyCon staff and we'll do our best to handle your situation.
