Hello all,

Recently I came across a post by a staffer with the following line: "We have a motto: be polite until it is no longer possible to be polite. "

Understand that in the forums, it is always possible to be polite. I know the sometimes things get frustrating (I'll admit, I've probably been shorter on the board a couple of times than I should have), but we must keep our cool. If you feel threads are getting out of hand, ask an Admin or a moderator for the forum to close the thread.

Please remember that attendees are customers. Your actions towards them reflect on the entire convention, and on the Midwest Animation Promotion Society. If you are ever in a situation where you feel you cannot be polite to an attendee, contact a DH immediately.

Yes, Patrick, and everyone remember, it's in your pre-con staffers guide. We will assume you have read it by now and will abide by those guidelines.

IMHO I abide by the guide lines, and I work in a Customer Services type of position, BUT even my supervisors say there is a limit to what people have to tollerate.

i.e.
-verbal abuse
-assult
-slander

Closing the thread is effictive publically, but then it opens the mod up to verbally abusive (to the limits the filters allow) PM's. And don't tell me it doesn't happen Patrick becuase I have recieved several.

Forever to that song that was gone by morning
He followed endlessly those footsteps that we left behind
With a parting comes an end, thus we leave everything behind
By morning we'll be humming a new tune beneath the sunlight

I never said it doesn't happen... If you start getting abusive pms, forward them to either Frank, Julie or myself (or any of the other admins on the board). We'll make the call to either give a warning or suspend the account. The idea is that most staff should never be in a position where they can't be polite.

Typically when a bad post is reported, the mods and admins. usually get the warnings out there pretty quickly. When it's one of our own staffers doing the bad posting, it's taken very seriously, as we are representatives of ACen on these boards. We don't want anyone to feel as if we are disrespecting them, or treating them as if their views don't mean anything. As staffers, we must be very careful about the things that we say, since we don't want anything to come back on us later.

It's okay if you don't agree with someone, or if you get upset by something someone else has posted. Just be careful in your responses back.

Only the Department Head/Assistant DH (with their Department Head's permission), or Section Chief of a particular area should be answering ANY quesitons involving a particular department. New staffers (or even some that have been with ACen for years) really shouldn't be putting their two cents in when it comes to attendees speculating on ACen events or policies.
Convention management can handle that. Just PM or shoot an e-mail over to the staff member that you feel would have knowledge regarding an issue or question, and then leave it to them to answer the attendee. Don't just comment purely for the sake of commenting. That is how a lot of misinformation gets out there and how a lot of tempers start to flare.
