As always, there were a lot of amazing costumes at Acen, and craftsmanship judging was VERY tough...there were so many talented cosplayers who came backstage to be judged! This year we had a few more awards to give away, however (many MANY thanks to Jazhed508!!!) - three merit awards and a "Best Group" award! :)

Here are the winners of the Craftsmanship Awards for Anime Central 2009:
Best Novice - The 3rd Colossus (Shadow of the Colossus)
Best Novice Runner-up - Watanuki (xxxHolic)
Best Journeyman - Miss Tronne Bonne with Gustav (Megaman Legends)
Best Journeyman Runner-up - Optimus Prime (Transformers)
Best Master - Lulu (Final Fantasy X)
Best Group - Ninety-nine Nights
Merit Award #1 - Ashlotte (Soul Caliber 4)
Merit Award #2 - Onion Knight (Final Fantasy Dissidia)
Merit Award #3 - Berserker Paine (Final Fantasy X-2)

If any of you were judged for craftsmanship during the Saturday Masquerade and would like personal feedback on your costumes and what our thoughts as judges were, please feel free to post here or send me a PM! There were so many cosplayers I wasn't able to track down after the Masquerade to talk to, and some of you were really amazing. I am honored to have been able to see so much talent up close and personal!

(And to my awesome fellow judges out there, feel free to contribute too!)

Despite the fact I am well aware of the multiple, MULTIPLE fixes I need to do (headphones are trashed already, and I'm well aware I need to fix the size/alterations of the top and skirt)... I suppose I wouldn't mind knowing how my judgment went for Megurine Luka- Vocaloid (W07). Ah~ Cosplay malfunction on-stage is an awesome way to begin one's first (participating) Masquerade experience.

Also, the Novice runner-up was Watanuki

Your Optimus was very cleanly constructed, which is a major factor in craftsmanship judging. It was a tough call between yourself and Miss Tronne Bonne! I do wish we could have seen you in Optimus so that we could have seen how you were able to move and walk. It's a very impressive costume and we loved how well put together it is. :)

Don't be discouraged by malfunctions and not winning - everyone has to start somewhere and we all grow with practice! :) I personally thought your wig was very nice, and overall the costume is good. We did notice the top and skirt were a bit off, but your craftsmanship will improve with time and I truly think you should compete again after you make your alterations and fixes!

Also, thanks for the name of the novice runner-up winner. ^_^
