I bought a zip up hoody today from a Lolita vendor at Acen, but I didn't zip it on when I tried it (I know, I'm stupid for that). I DID zip it, however, for when I showed my friends...and the zipper is broken. It zips, but it won't close the hoody. Can I fix this?
Acen 2011: I lost my red kodak camera. If you found it, PLEASE contact me. I really miss it.

If you know of anyone that does alterations, it would be possible to buy a new zipper at a fabric store and have said seamstress take the old one out and put the new one on.

Ugh... I hate it when that happens... Well, what I will do is contact or email them and ask them if you can get an exchange.

Sometimes a broken zipper can't be repaired (dud zippers are just duds). Do you know what type of zipper it is?
Wire coil zippers generally have to be replaced, toothed zippers can sometimes be fixed or at least jimmied into place (unless the teeth are molded plastic).
Zippers are fairly cheap if it needs to be replaced, though (and you can even pick one that'll make your item unique from everyone else's). Even if you have a custom key/pull, you can have it taken off the old zipper and put on the new one.

Well, considering how difficult it is to match up zippers to tracks (the lines of teeth), it's probably a better idea to buy a pre-assembled zipper, rip the old one out, and sew the new one in. It's possible to replace a part, but it'd probably take more research and trial-and-error than would be worth it.
If you want me to give you more informed advice about what kind/where to get a good replacement for your particular piece (or whether you can just replace a part), I'd have to know the following about the piece itself:
1. The entire thing
2. Close-up shot of the zipper and the teeth
3. The measurement of the actual functioning length of the zipper (from where it starts to where it stops)
I have this "thing" about zippers when I modify fashion items, so I have a few choice places to buy them when the plain ones at JoAnn just won't cut the cake.
