Also, the morning of the first day of the con was really stressful for a lot of reasons, and a pair of IRT staffers came up to me and said, "You look like you need a hug," and hugged me. That truly helped make my morning.

Hunny, you really needed the hug. I am happy I gave it to you. <3

I second that!! One second we were talking in Special Needs and Compliance and we hear a loud countdown, then a massive thundering stampede. We look out to see IRT hightail it ahead of the mass of humanity to stop everyone. You guys saved a bunch of people from a dangerous situation. Much kudos and hugs!

Oh and whoever had the bright idea to do said countdown, not cool. People could have really gotten hurt. Grow up.

Thanks you guys. That makes me very happy. By the time My crew had gotten around to the soup bubble lines we were on our last winds. Glad we could keep the chaos to a moderate level!

oh and yes we did hear you guys cheering. made my day atleast!

Also, some IRT person made one of my friends' day when he went to get his nine giant fluffy tails checked out, and not only was told that they were okay because they were soft... but apparently whoever was inspecting them then cuddled up against one of them and hugged it, which he thought was bizarrely cute. XD

I'm going to have to double Irish and Pixies words, it was YOU the con-goers that made this an amazing ACEN.

For the most part everyone was well mannered and amazing. Honestly we could not have provided better service if it wasn't for such great people as a whole.

Personally i feel a lot of the good vibe has come from the newer IRT members who are excited about helping the con and bringing the good energy to an amazing level.

Remember guys, if you see a problem it will only get solved with your help, if you had a problem with IRT or saw something you didn't like tell us.

Or better yet.

Volunteer for next year and help make changes from the inside out.

Last year; I had several bad run ins with the IRT... So bad that I was even thinking about skipping ACen for a while and going to the con over in Indiana. But something kept telling me to go. And I did.

ALL the IRT this year were VERY nice. Irish, for one, totally helped me and my friend when we were confused and lost. And he was pretty chill in the Soap Bubble line. Then Sea Biscuit and Wolf were very nice. I had had a really bad run in with a ticket dealer who actually ended up making me cry. So I ended up wandering around before asking the Sea Biscuit if I needed a ticket for the Vic Mignogna concert. He called Wolf over and they started to sort everything out for me. Turns out; I did need a ticket and the jerk who yelled at me at the ticket stand really needed to lighten up. They apologized for his behavior and were really nice and professional. It was one of the few good run-ins with the IRT that I've had. I can only hope that they'll be that good next year. <3

BTW; Irish, your kilt was awesome Saturday night. Lol.

Irish is awesome, period. I made sure to throw him a two-thumbs-up as he passed by the merch booth one time and crowed "YAY KILTS!" The grin he shot me was priceless! XD

Thanks guys. You all have no idea what these posts mean to us in IRT.

You guys as attendees rocked this year. You kept your cool, you didn't try to destroy everything you saw, you treated Acen like it was when I started many years ago. Like a place to get together with good friends and just hang out.

Thank you for making this Acen one of the best I've ever been to.

You guys are seriously amazing.

But I want to thank one person, I do not know his name. And I think he was off the clock, because it was late Friday night, (I was in the executive wing) I decided to go get ice, and everyone was watching Domino in the other room so they couldn't hear me knocking. I knock softly. I didn't have a key, but luckily that Irt came and notice me. And knocked harder than I probably would have. But thank you to whoever you are. I probably would have been stuck sleeping outside my door until someone realized where I was.

Hey, we gotta relax at some point too. And for those of us who are on the job all the time, we have to relax on the job. It's the only way to deal with some of the stuff we see and encounter.

I remember keeping people away from the curb for the Soap Bubble line. People were holding hands out for high-fives from passing IRT ops and, at one point some people who were dancing to a boom box shouted out, "Hey, it's Rabbi! Hey, Rabbi! Come dance with us!" So I did. Why not? It's not like the line was going out of control or anything...

I still think it's weird that I'm recognizable enough for people to know who I am even though my job at the con involves sitting in a room and talking on the radio.

Haha. Yeah that was me.They were not angry at all. My boyfriend was wtf only for a moment but he understood. And I told him I had an irt member knock on the door, because they were being to loud, but not overly loud to wake our neighbor's. But thank you once again. I think this year's staff did an absolutely amazing job.

All things considered, I doubt a "perfectly run" convention anywhere simply will never exists, so for the uncontrollable and unforeseen obstacles undoubtedly thrown into IRT's path during this year's Acen, I say they preformed admirably.

I attended Whose Line late Saturday night and, as those who attended are surely aware, the panel ran dangerously over into the time slot of the proceeding panel, causing the IRT involved to be understandably stressed and thus irritated by peoples' objections to cutting Whose Line short. Thanks to the proceeding panel runners' reassurance and patients, and the IRT's lenience the infamous blindfolds + mouse traps shtick went off without anyone getting in trouble.

Another potential "incident" per se I experienced more personally was on the last day scrambling to get out of the Hyatt and down to our cars before we were charged for another day we 1) wouldn't be needing, 2) couldn't afford. Thus myself and my 2 friends waited anxiously for an elevator. When 15 mins passed w/out a "down" one appearing for us, I was near tears. Thankfully an "up" one arrived which we decided to take and just wait 'til it went to the lower level. However, after going up a floor, an IRT gentleman told everyone they had to exit the elevator since several Guests needed to go to the VIP floor to which normal attendees weren't allowed. Needless to say, everyone inside was pissed or begging to let us just stay on to go to the bottom floor. One pink-haired girl and her male companion even went so far as to state that unless Hyatt's manager instructed them, they weren't getting off. Luckily the female Guests said they'd vouch for us, and on the way up they politely explained why there was such a fuss. I can definitely understand why there was such an issue now, and I'm very grateful and impressed at how calm and professional the IRT gentleman remained even when being practically shouted at. (The aforementioned pinkette and her cohort kept on whining and cussing about the situation until, finally, I couldn't take it anymore and kindly told them to shut their respective noise holes).

I have immense respect for IRT volunteers, this year has only reinforced these feelings. :D

I sincerely appreciated IRT at the con. Every IRT member I came across was polite, helpful and friendly. I can imagine how burned out each of you must be after all the work during the con, so thank you for everything!

One particular IRT member whom I recall seeing regularly was (I believe) Hawkeye? I apologize if I have the name wrong, but he was an "everywhere" guy. Very helpful and nice overall.

ooh, that was my friend, Tim, he's an african american guy with short hair. It was his first year as IRT, he's a black belt and overall awesome person. I think he just changed his callsgn to Raikami for certain circumstances : O

Oh, and last year I believe someone on IRT saved me from a falling drinking glass someone dropped from the 4th floor. The ran off to chase the culprit as soon as thy pushed me out of the way. I looking forward to working with IRT this year : D

I don't see a 2010 thread for this, so maybe these couple comments will get split off. I know you guys get a lot of kudos and a lot of complaints - to those of you who are doing your best, even if you get a bit snappy on occasion, I hope that the attendees you snapped at understood the situation and were sympathetic! To those who were just awesome and helpful, a big old high five.

...those of you who were legitimately power-tripping, you know who you are and please don't return next year ;D

I wanted to give props to one guy I saw at the Customer Service booth several times over the course of the weekend - of course, he was fairly average-looking and I had lots of things in my head and I've forgotten his callsign. I believe it started with B or P, six or seven letters, maybe ending in an 'ie' sound? Anyway, he would get congoers asking him questions, and when he didn't know the answer, he'd not only bring them to the Customer Service desk at the Hyatt where I was working, he'd listen and remember the answer (or directions, or whatever the question was). At least once I overheard him using information he'd gotten from us CS staffers to help another congoer when he happened to be nearby and we were all busy. And he remembered it correctly, which is a very important bit too! I know you guys are all busy and sleep-deprived and may not have the time or brain-space to do things like that, but he was really doing a great job, and I'm sure the people he talked to appreciated it!

I know I got a look at his tag and muttered something like 'Thanks, ____, you rock' but it was pretty loud in the hallway and I was rather quiet, so I'm not sure he heard me.

(I'm sure there were some far more epic tales of heroism in the IRT ranks, but hey, you give compliments where you see 'em, right?)
