[I Am Imaginary]

My sister and I got an idea for a cosplay for next Acen (2010) but I'm not sure if it would work the way we envision it. The idea is to cosplay as Sailor Moon and Chibi Moon but with a twist, the twist being that they would be in mid-transformation. We'd make ourselves look all sparkly and multicolored by dyeing and spraying body suits like this one (but start with white), spray the wigs to match, and painting out faces to match. Then we'd also wear the leotard part of the uniform without the skirt. basically we'd be trying to look like they do at 2:42 in this vid.

My question is, would this actually work? Would people get the idea when they saw us or would we just look retarded? or maybe there's a better way of going about making it? I dunno, anything you guys can think of to help me out would be greatly appreciated!

I think, if done correctly, this is a great idea. But rather than wearing just the leotard, you two can wear just the pink ribbons and broaches, with a nude colored leotard underneath. Then to cover you feet (you don't want to go around barefoot!) you can wear beige ballet slippers.

I think its very original and again, if you put a lot of effort towards it, I think it would look fantastic and people would get it if you posed and everything. Also having the little accessories like the heart pendants and ribbons, I think that would look very cute.

Someone did something similar to this in 2004. She had a white leotard though. There was debate (two years ago?) about the illusion of nudity and an Elfin Lied costume. Then, it was pretty much decided that if you would/could be perceived as nude even if fully clothed by a flesh toned zentai or something similar, it would probably not be acceptable.

I dont think there will be any. There is a huuuge difference between someone who is covering their body in a leotard and someone who tapes white fluff to their goodies. *Note- I'm not bashing sexy no jutsu's, but many that I have seen have been half you know whatted, but the difference is how the cosplayer pulls it off. If they are dedicated and follow the rules, then kudos! Its awesome.*

I don't see a problem with wearing a nude colored leotard with ribbons over it. Like Sa-Chan said, there's a big different with wearing a nude colored outfit and just barely covering up the private parts with something else.

i think the largest argument agents this would be
that there are children attending acen
so this type of cosplay would not be liked by their parents
i doubt this cosplay will come out before 10pm
but what is in good taste is subjective

Originally we were going to wear the sparkly multicolored bodysuits and just add on the brooches and pink ribbons but we changed the idea to wear the leotard part of the Sailor Scout uniform specifically to avoid coming across as "nude" or even implying it. My sister will only be 13 by next Acen to begin with so I took the issue of "nudity" into consideration already.

I think it's a great idea and I would definitely recognize you as would all my friends. The only problem is gonna be dying the body suit. You won't be able to just use a rit dye and your washing machine. I don't even know if it's possible to dye it. Try looking online to see if their are any guides to dying that fabric whatever it is. Spray paint won't work either. If you can't figure a way to do it with a body suit then I'd recommend body paint. Kryolan Aqua Colors are really great. They're like water colors so they aren't oily and they're breathable. They also won't come off unless you wash them off. So if you bump into someone, they won't get your make-up on them.

Actually I thought about this already. I'm thinking get some pastel colored tie-dye stuff (or just water down regular tie-dye colors if I need to) and load it into spray bottles. Obviously I'm going to have to test that on some spare fabric first but I think it should work based on past Girl Scouting experience (from Girl Scouts to Sailor Scouts lol!). I also know there's spray on fabric glitter out there to give it that sparkle but I'd add that after the tie-dye. I would really like to keep the use of body paint to a minimum because it is expensive and time consuming, plus I've used body paint for cosplays before (though not the brand you mentioned) and after a while I started to feel a bit nasty from it so I would like to avoid painting most of my body again. Also, on the off chance that we want to use the cosplays again it would be a lot easier to slip on a body suit than repaint our bodies.

That is a really original idea and I would love to see it! I also agree with the idea of the ribbons because that's what I think about when i think of them mid transformation. But I can see the leotard idea working if done right. I think if you over use the sparkle factor it can look tacky but there is hope that it can go quite nicely.

it sounds like it'll be good to look at...

now all you have to do is find an Usagi, a fully transformed sailor moon, and a princess serenity and you can take an epic picture together with usagi sitting on her knees, you on your knees but higher behind her, then the fully transformed sailor moon standing behind you and finally serenity on a chair in the back!

you can each take seperate short vid clips and make a transformation sequence!
