First there was the books, the movie and its upcoming sequel "New Moon", t-shirts, candy and whatever else. And now boys and girls...there's a Twilight convention. Read on for more details courtesy from Perez Hilton.

How do you justify a badge cost of $255? Are they paying for the entire cast of the movie to be flown out for the convention? Plus giving you a copy of all the books and the movie signed? On top of which having a lazer light and pyrotechnics show at opening and closing ceremonies?

Even with all that I'm not sure you could justify $255 a badge, haha.

Still extortion is extortion...I mean to be fair I think a lot of anime fans are no better or worse than Twilight fans. We certainly both have our good and bad apples, but you'd never see an anime con try to charge that much for a badge. I believe the most expensive at con badge price I've seen is AX at $70.

I've done a lot of staff and behind the scenes work for cons so I know just how much it costs to run a con which is why from that point of view I am really curious how they justify $255.

Yeah AX is $70, but they bring in a huge number of top notch Japanese and American guests. I mean this year alone they have both the creator and lead designer of Guilty Gear, most of Morning Musume(an extremely popular pop group with their own TV show), and the entire second season cast of Power Rangers. And they aren't even done announcing guests yet. So that $70 is worth it.

For the $255 at Twicon, they couldn't even get the author of the book or Edward or Bella from the movie. They got a few second rate characters and that's it.

Hey, let's make our own Twilight convention with $200 tickets and pocket the cash. Anyone else up for this idea? Just end up holding it in a closet somewhere, but these people will still come and happily hand us over the ca$h.

Oh I agree with you completely. AX is flying in guests from halfway around the world. I mean I'm sure that Hollywood actors probably charge a higher appearance fee, but I think even being generous the extra costs for both probably about even out...

$255 just to be around a bunch of squealing, generally preteen girls who happen to like a second-rate book because it basically fills in emotions that they're not mature enough to fully grasp? I think I'll pass.

Besides, if I were really inclined to spend a weekend being deafened by the squeals and screams of fangirls, I'd just go around to all of Vic Mignogna's panels and pocket the $200 I saved. At least those, unlike Twicon, would appeal to my interest in anime. (Seriously, though, how is it that that guy's not deaf? I mean, sure, not ALL of his fans are like that, but still ...)

I wonder how that could possibly work, though, considering that by day three there would probably be girls trying to kill each other for the right to call themselves Edward's boyfriend.

Or even better, charge $500, maybe even $1000 a pop and tell them that at the end of the convention, one of them (the only one still alive at the end of the convention, I'm assuming) could be Edward's boyfriend! Of course, we won't have to actually DELIVER on that, as even if it isn't official, the winner will be so delusional that she'll believe it to be so as she's hauled off to prison.

I actually know the guys from Evil Iguana Productions who are gonna be at Twicon as a guest. Craig and Allen. I went to HS with them and go to College with them.

I'm not going to Twicon though.. I can't stand Twilight and don't understand how it was ever published in the first place. [Though this is my opinion as a fiction writing double major when it comes down to editing the work as whole.]

I've spent that much for a badge before for a few horror cons, I'm fine with it. If you're a die hard fan, thats fine with me, if an anime con charges 100 bucks, people will still pay that rate.

But if people spend hundreds of dollars on a costumes for each anime con that they go to and complain about how they don't have money for their hotel room, food, etc. they should be the ones to get shot.

True, but I'm sure those horror cons actually had really good guests. I mean, if a horror con had like Clive Barker, Wes Craven, Rob Zombie, etc. I would consider spending that much. But Twicon has nothing to justify the cost. No big names at all and no extra perks.

I'm all for paying for quality, and Twicon doesn't seem to have it.
