I would say the Spartan would win easily if it was a straight up fight. But otherwise the ninja's walking away with this one. Very quietly, of course. (Spartans would also tend to underestimate the ninja if said ninja happened to be female. Ninjas were coed assassins.)

You do know that the Spartan women were tough also? They were known for fighting off potential mates. I think the reason they have this match-up is because both groups training had a lot to do with stealth, in fact the Spartans last test was sneaking up on someone and killing them.
Bachelors know more about women than married men; if they didn't, they'd be married too.

Sorry, but you're wrong. During the Sengoku Jidai, several prominent daimyos were assassinated by ninja, including one who waited for several days in an outhouse--when his target sat down to do No. 2, he got a spear up his butt for his troubles.
The all-black traditional ninja outfit was almost never used, if it was used at all--ninja, like serial killers, looked like everyone else. They also were used as what we would call today asymmetric warfare, ambush and picking off isolated samurai garrisons. Pretty much the ninja disappeared into pop culture after the Tokugawa period began.
Spartans suffered from hubris just as much as their Persian opponents. It's what eventually killed them. The Spartans were generally unmatched on land, but Athens held them off throughout most of the Peloponnesian Wars through control of the sea. By the time the Spartans finally conquered Athens, they were so exhausted that it didn't take much for Sparta to be overrun by Alexander's Macedonians. The Spartans weren't invincible; just very tough and well-organized. And while Spartan women enjoyed far more rights than their Athenian counterparts (who were essentially slaves), and were indeed tough in their own right (to turn out tough kids), they were still considered second-class citizens. Equal rights just didn't exist in the ancient world.

I know this is an anime forum but if you look at it objectively, the Spartans just have a far more impressive track record of success and are for more suited for a head to head fight.

Samurai vs. Viking- Wow, way to go on making vikings look like brainless morons. That is exactly what a viking would do, run straight at an enemy who is shooting arrows at you. Oh, and let us forget the fact that vikings had bows and arrows. There was also the fact that not every samurai ran around with well forged steel, and given that vikings had strength on their side, the katana would simply break after a good number of swings from a viking's axe. Of course to counter this, vikings were also known for raiding villages full of unarmed farmers, which is why they worked well in hordes.(note: I said well, not well as in TEH GREETEST URMY EVAR. Well as in they survived well enough, which is good because they helped start the commercial revolution and started a constant flow of money all around.)
Ninja vs. Spartan-Simple. Ninjas were spies more than anything else and did their best to stay out of fights. They just killed and ran away. If the Ninja messes up, then the ninja loses, if he succeeds he wins. Although knowing SPIKE TV for what it is, I wouldn't be surprised if the ninja had the touch of death technique.
Overall, a somewhat interesting concept is thrown in the trash. It would have been better if they just put two groups up against each other and see how well that would happen rather than 1 vs 1.

It reminds me of that Animal Face-Off show. There was an episode where they had a cougar fighting a lone wolf. The problem with the test was that wolves don't tend to fight alone, so naturally the cougar wins. This show seems to go with a similar theme of 1-on-1, face-to-face, which isn't the way some warriors fought. Apache weren't very solitary and Ninja weren't very in-your-face.
TheStrongJaeger: If you read my post, I said Spartan, so not everyone thinks the Ninja will win.

Personally, I would like to see ninjas win, but a large portion of that would be due to the fact that I know next to nothing about the Spartans besides the movie 300 xD But after reading this thread, I'm not too sure, either. All of you have presented both sides really well so it's hard to say.
Also, TheStrongJaeger: Sentinel28a has presented strong arguments without being biased. You actually presented yourself to be more biased when you took what he said out of context because you were trying to discredit him instead of strengthening your own argument. Let's not get too immature, everyone :]
It's too bad I don't know what channel SPIKE TV is on my cable provider...I shall youtube it XD

Yeah spartans won. XD
WHY did they choose to do ninjas versus spartans instead of NINJAS VS PIRATES?!? That would be GOLD. Tsk tsk.

Agreed. The main strength of the Spartans was their iron discipline. 300 may have been a live-action comic book, but they got this exactly right: the 300 Spartans could hold the Persian Army because the Persians were used to fighting essentially in large mobs of individual combatants, not in solid ranks like the Spartans. (The Persians were also used to fighting in the open plains of Mesopotamia--Iraq--not in the close confines of the mountains of Greece. Besides being damn good at fighting, Leonidas also had an eye for terrain.)
I haven't heard of the Gladiator vs. Apache, but there is NO WAY the gladiator wins this fight. It's like putting an NFL player up against a World Fighting Championship fighter. The gladiators were skilled, especially in one on one fighting, but the Apaches' main strength was stealth and ambush. The Apaches held off all comers from the Spanish to the US Army--who had George Crook going against them, and he was very good--and were among the last of the Indian tribes to finally surrender. The Apaches terrorized (and I use that word very literally; the Apaches weren't choosy about butchering civilians if the mood was on them) the entire American Southwest and Northern Mexico for nearly 200 years. Gladiators were pit fighters. Again, no way. The gladiators would never see the Apaches coming until it was too late.
The samurai had an advantage over the Vikings due to discipline, and fighting at range, the samurai would slaughter a Viking raiding force. However, it's kind of apples and oranges. The Vikings' greatest strength was their mobility--the longships could attack just about anywhere a river flowed; Vikings hit Paris at one point. If there was a force waiting for them ashore, they could simply bypass it and go elsewhere. In other words, the Vikings probably wouldn't have even bothered with samurai and sought easier pickings.
At close range though...I don't know. The samurai were tough hombres, but they tended to fight in predictable styles (Miyamoto Musashi's greatest critique of samurai warfare). The Vikings pretty much fought tooth-and-nail, and the fact that they probably would've been pound-for-pound bigger than the average samurai with a longer reach gives them an advantage. The samurai would have an advantage in that they fought in close ranks with heavy archer support, whereas the Vikings tended to fight in unorganized mobs, but once the fight got up close and personal...I'm giving the advantage to the Northman.

I think we should stop thinking of everything as a competition and realize that all classes of people can work together. Imagine the power of a pirate ship filled with an army of viking-trained, pirate-allied ninjas. You can't. The sound of how awesome it is, is too loud for your puny little earholes.
You can combine any classes like this.

I laughed at "apache spartan samurai". Seriously sounds lethal.
