This thread has potential to die real quick, but I might as well try.

I'm posting this thread in the hopes that maybe, MAYBE, I might be able to meet with a fellow yoyo player at Acen. I though it would be cool if I can meet some fellow throwers and maybe trade tips and advice and just talk about yoyoing in general.

My prefered style is 1a, can't even dream of doing 2a just yet cuz I suck at looping, I've dabbled in 5a but not 4a just yet, but I am fairly adept in 1a. My current main player is a YYJ Legacy, the weight on that thing is perfect for me, I'm even buying my second one just so it can match my catboy outfit for Acen. If you want a scale of how good I am, I can't quite Kamikaze just yet, I'm trying to, but I can Eli Hop very good if I get into the groove, I know plenty of other tricks but sometimes I'm guilty of repeating myself. If your better than me (odds are you are, or else I'm too modest of my ability), then maybe you could help me out a bit.

I'm hoping to meet someone. Last year, there was a guy playing with a Diabolo (chinese yoyo) outside the game room on Saturday evening, so I know its not a completely bad idea to try posting here. If I had my yoyo with me, I would have thrown some with him.

But anyways, here's hoping I meet somebody.

Hey, twenty-five views. I really didn't expect that many...

I know it sounds sarcastic, but I really meant it.

Omg I didn't understand a word of that! Didn't even know there was all that to yo-yo. ^_^ But I LOVE to see yo-yo tricks.
I always wanted to learn! Don't know why I haven't. I hope I get to see you doing some of your yoyo tricks.

Well thanks for your kind words!

I should've thought about non-players reading this, me and my hairbrain ideas.

Well, for the sake of knowledge, I'll clairify.

When I say [insert number]a, it means a certain style of yoyoing, there are five. They also stand for divisions in yoyo contests so players can compete for the glory of placing against many others with the same style. Here they are:

1a: String tricks with one yoyo. Almost always with wing shaped yoyos that have long spin times for extended combos. These yoyos often have no response at all, meaning it won't come back to your hand unless you retrieve it by "binding" This is the style I often play.
2a: Loop tricks with two yoyos. This is where a player has a yoyo in each hand and they repeatedly loop each one for an extended time, usually mixing it up by changing directions, lying down, jumping around, all that good stuff. 2a players use yoyos with high response and are molded in the traditional yoyo shape.
3a: Tricks using multiple long-spinning yoyos with manipulation of the string. Can't say a whole lot about it besides what I just said, don't know the first thing to it.
4a: Tricks using offstring yoyos. Offstring yoyos are often much more larger than any other yoyo, sometimes with rubber rims to prevent damage to the body when dropped. It winds like a regular yoyo, but is not attched to the string. You start a trick by launching it in the air (engaging the spin), catching it on the string and going from there. Pretty cool, can't wait to try it myself.
5a: Tricks using a free-hand(or counterweight) yoyo. A freehand yoyo is just a normal yoyo--often the exact yoyos you find being used in 1a--only it has a counterweight attached to the loop at the end of the string, enabling the ability to do a wider variety of tricks. I've done some 5a in my time, but haven't delved that deep for a few reasons, it hurts when that counterweight hits you, I can never keep from dropping it and risking damage to the body (and most of my yoyos range from thirty to sixty dollars), and its easy to get knots and risking an accidental bind that will most likely ram into your hands or fingers (ouch, really). But of course, all these gripes are noob mistakes, and I'm a 5a noob.

That took me awhile, I hope I have enlightened some of you the world of yoyoing.

I understood half of the first post. I remember about 11 years ago when it got popular at school. I only learned basic stuff and only bought a plain Duncan yo-yo. Though on occasion I watch routines on youtube. Though I want to try 4a, I might break a window. :P

Yeah, I'm somewhat hesitant about trying 4a myself, only because a majority of the better tricks are done with some major high/air time, and that would involve me having to go outside, heaven forbid.

Yes, my involvement in yoyos started when I was in middle school, as well.

And since you've watched routines on youtube, I can count on at least one person to legitimately say that I suck lol.

I have plenty of yoyos, are you staying at the Hyatt?

It would be awesome if we can meet sometime on Thursday before 8pm or after 10:15-ish pm (I'll be at the Acen Forums M&G). If not then thats okay.

Are you interested in yoyoing, or are you a yoyo player, or what?

Yeah, it takes a lot of practice, but that isn't that much of a problem if you love doing it as much as I do. Sometimes I'll just stand there for hours at a time in my kitchen, playing with my yoyo. I go through a ton of string.

Anyways, it's a pleasure to have you posting in my thread, HaruHE.

Haha, no need to put me on a higher pedestal my friend, you and I are no different after all, I see friends and everyone else as equals. (Cept for people who make me mad.)

On a side note, just for everybody's information: Today I'm actually putting on my very first public display at a spring fling here at my college.

This is honestly serving as a test run to see if I really have the skills to entertain people at Acen, or else just get laughed at.

*crosses fingers*

Will happen sometime within the hour...

Mission succes, I guess. Messed up a lot, but thats what happens when I'm nervous. I can do huge combos whithout messing up at home when nobody's watching, but not today. I guess I should try it in public more often, like at the mall or something. But, when it was all said and done, I got applause, ooos and aaaaahs. I'm still getting complimented while I'm typing this.

I sure did put up a sweat though....I'm so outta shape. I need to pace myself a little more at Acen, lest I soak my nice outfit in tons of sweat.

Cool, then lets meet at midnight on Friday? Maybe that can be a loose date up until the con in case anything gets changed.

I think the rave is on Saturday, not sure.

You can use one of mine, probably my YYJ Dark Magic with the Konkave bearing inside. That's a twenty dollar bearing.

I'll pm you once the con gets a little closer.
