Hello All!

This year there will be a Pokemon PBR tournament ran by myself. For those of you that participated last year, I placed in the Top 4last year and it was a great time! Thank you to those that showed support for a tournament this year. This year the rules will be a little different; but first, some guidelines that everyone must follow.

Basic Stuff:

Place: You should know Video Gaming Room

Time: Saturday 4PM.
I need you to show up about fifteen minutes early (3:45pm) so I can check you in as being here. Ask VG staff if you cannot find me. We have a set timeslot, so as a result there will be a LIMITED amount of participants. Last year had roughly 30 entrants; so this year we will have 32 spots. I appologize, but this cannot be changed or debated.

Other Stuff: Like all tournaments in Video Gaming Room, you have to respect the judges and their decisions. Any arguing will result in a disqualification.

Now for what you came in here for...

PBR Rules:

Basics:

Single Elimination - 4 on 4 Doubles (still have a team of 6 ready)!

If you have a copy of PBR (or a Wii); Please bring yours! The more copies of the game we have, the quicker the tournament can go.

Please remember to be responsible for your own stuff. I nor will VG staff keep a constant eye on it. This applies to your own personal DS! I will not be providing a spare DS for use, nor will VG staff. If for whatever reason you dont have 1 when your name is called, tough luck.

I might be looking for a judge or two to help out setting up or running the tournament. If you are interested, please be knowledgeable about PBR and come find me at-con. If you help out, you will still be allowed to enter.

When I call your name you have 3 name calls (roughly 30 sec) to respond and be ready to play! Please be close to where the tournament is happening, and pay attention. I will announce each match, but do not plan on yelling at the top of my lungs to do so. If you don't show by the 3rd name call, you just got DQ'ed.

If there is an emergency, or something of that nature, come up and talk to me personally and I can push your match back. However, if your match comes up again the 3-call rule goes back in effect.

Have a team of 6 already picked out and in your party BEFORE I call your name up to battle your opponent. You will have to choose 4 of the 6 to fight with. Both players will be able to see each others 6 PKMN lineup, but will not be able to see movesets, held items, or starting 2. With that being said, pick your starting 2 pokemon VERY carefully before I start the battle.

When you upload your team, if I see ANY bad eggs, thats an immediate DQ. A bad egg is a pokemon the game identifies as, un-legit or a "hack". If your team doesnt upload for reasons other than that, we will work through the issues and do our best to get your team uploaded. If we still can't get your team in the game, I'll handle the situation as it arises. Wifi in the Game Room isn't that great, so let me know ASAP if you're having wireless issues, so I can act accordingly.

In the case of a disconnect, one of two things will happen. If the match is extremely close, it might be restarted. Otherwise, if there is a visible winner (based on points in the game), the match will end and a winner be declared. If it is determined that you caused the disconnect on purpose, you will be DQ'ed. If your DS dies due to low battery, you've just lost the match. CHARGE YOUR DS BEFORE YOU ENTER! All disconnects, again, will be handeled case-by-case.

No Team switching between matches. The six you've picked at the start of the tournament you are stuck with for the entire thing. This wasnt really a problem last year, but I'm not taking any chances. If needbe, I will write your (and every other) team down.

This tournament WILL BE 4 ON 4 DOUBLE BATTLE STYLE!!! With the amount of time given, this was the only practical solution...Im sorry to all you Single Style Fans. I will be using lvl 50 All setting. That means all pokemon below lvl 50 will become lvl 50 and all above will also become lvl 50 for the duration of the battle.

Theres is no time limit for the battle, but you will only have 90 sec to choose an attack or the game (to the best of my knowledge) will choose an attack for you at random and the turn proceeds without your action. 90 sec is more then enough time to pick an attack for both your pokemon or switch one out.

Whew...now for the last bit of pokemon rules:

NO UBERS!!! Ubers Include:

Arceus (dont even try argue this one)
Darkrai
Deoxys (all forms)
Dialga
Garchomp
Giratina
Groundon
Ho-oh
Kyogre
Latios
Lugia
Manaphy
Mew
Mewtwo
Palkia
Rayquaza
Shaymin-S (Sky Forme Shaymin)
Wobbuffet

Sleep Clause: You can't use sleep inducing moves on opponent's Pokémon when there's another Pokémon in his/her team asleep. Yawn can't be used to PseudoHaze (make opponent switch) when there's another Pokémon asleep caused by you. When the asleep Pokémon awakes or faints, you're free to make another Pokémon of his/her team asleep. Sleeping being caused by Effect Spore or Rest are disconsidered from Sleep Clause.

Species Clause: You can't use two of the same Pokémon in a team

Evasion Clause: You can't use moves that increases your evasion. Avoid the use of Acupressure, it has 1/7 chance to double your evasion.

OHKO Clause: You are strictly prohibited of using OHKO moves. They are, but are not limited to Guillotine, Horn Drill, Fissure and Sheer Cold.

No "HAX" Items: Brightpowder, Focus Band, King's Rock, Lax Incense, Quick Claw, Razor Claw, Razor Fang and Scope Lens...DONT USE THESE!!!

Item Clause: Every pokemon on your team must be holding a different named item. This rule isnt something thats often enforced, but Im doing it for this tournament. So no 6 pokemon with leftovers or have both your leads focus sashed.

NO HACKS!!!: I shouldnt even have to explain this, but its pokemon. -.- That being said, If I see any hacks...its an immediate DQ, no exceptions. Now I wont have the time to check DS's, but during the battle...if I see stuff like Shaymin (not in a Cherish Ball) or a Hypno with Wish (and not in a standard pokeball) you will be DQ'd...Ive been playing for a LONG time and can spot blatant hacks. So if your using event only stuff, be VERY careful. If you ask me, I can check an event pokemon to make sure their legit before the tournament or inbetween matches, but I can only do so much as far as checking it.

Thanks to the release of Platinum, pokemon now have access to move tutor only attacks. PBR can use both Diamond and Pearl as well as Platinum, but comes with a few problems. 1 most noticible...is that you cant use the new Rotom forms on PBR. As such...I have to ban the new Rotom forms sadly. This is because the coding for the New Rotoms was not on PBR at the time of release...if you attempt to upload a Rotom form onto PBR, it will revert back to the original Rotom (as well as its stats) and lose its signature attack. Other than that, I dont think theres any Platinum only stuff to worry about...for those of you without Pokemon Platinum, WILL be at a disadvantage when only using Diamond on Pearl, as some Platinum Pokemon learn really good attacks only available on Platinum. It wasnt right to ban one version of the game cause of the advantages over the other, nor would it to not let people enter just because they dont have a certain version of the game, so Im allowing both.

Theres a few more PBR specific stuff that will be addressed if it comes up at con, but for now...Thats it!

You sign up for the PBR tournament the same way you would sign up for any other VG tournament.

First, visit the Video Gaming room at-con. Upon entering you will be looking at the VG Staff Table; ask any VG staffer sitting at there where the tournament sign up sheets are located. Look for the PBR sign-up sheet, sign up, and return ten to fifteen minutes prior to the listed tournament start time.

Why not make it Single, with "Number of entry Pokémon: 3" ???
You can set time limits for the battle, turns, move selection and such. I don't see why it has to be Double Battle.
I was going to participate, anticipating a Single Battle format. But Double Battles? Why don't we have contest competitions and Mix Battle while we're at it?

I'll probably still come to watch. Maybe I'll make a Skill Swappin' Shedinja/Spiritomb Doubles team ... ;]

This thought just hit me.

Can we not use a Dark Void Smeargle since Dark Void would hit both opponents? Or would this case be fine?

Dark Void would potentially put 2 pokemon too sleep, so no.

The decision has been made for this year, however...if I am graced with any say in what goes on for next year, Id be happy to try 3 on 3 singles instead of 4 on 4 doubles.

Well it's on like Pokémon if we're doin' 3, next year. I feel I'm good at 3 on 3. Prepare yourselves! as Ike might say.

The main issue with NOT doing 3 on 3 this year is that the in-game rules as well any rule-set Nintendo creates is just plain bad... (I wonder if they ever looked at the real competitive communities) So if I was to do 3's nest year, Id have to make up a bunch brand new rules just for that play type...without a GOOD rule set there would be too many facets too exploit if I just tried too copy the in-game rules.

I have an Osaka Charmander...It doesn't have anything special, 'cept a special egg on it.
I've raised it with no cheats or anything, and I was wondering if it was ok to use this in the tournament!

There really shouldnt be a problem..., if you have doubts, dont use it...cause if PBR says its a "Bad Egg" you'll be DQ'd on the spot.

Ill assume this was traded to you off the GTS? Always be careful with stuff from other countries, Japanese pokes are usually ok...most of the hacked stuff Ive seen from them is blatantly obvious. Given that it seems to be just a baby with pokerus, its probably ok.

EDIT: The best way to know if it is a hack is the pokeball it comes it and caught/hatched location.

Yeah...
No, it's the event Pokemon.
From Osaka.
Like, if you look it up....
It has the Event Pokeball on it.
I didn't hack...
It has nothing special on it if you wish to look at it for yourself.
Ummmm.
I was just wondering cause I've been training it for a while....I don't want it to turn out that I can't use it.

Haha my only event guys are legendaries (and subsequently ubers), so I couldn't use them even if I wanted to.

I'm actually looking forward to this now that Melty Blood has been taken off the menu. It should be interesting.
