Friend pointed this out to me...I'm guessing its supposed to be satirical...If so it does a really bad job of portraying it and I don't see the average person realizing that. Maybe I'm just sick of otaku being seen in a negative light, and even though we may not be able to change everyone's feelings I don't like the fact that we're taking active steps to promote those stereotypes.

I hear Vic Mignogna was behind the whole thing lol I agree, I think this does portray anime fans in a poor light for the public to see. There should've been another way of executing that commercial. Another idea.

Yeah, as if anime fans weren't looked down upon enough, they just had to flood the waters with yet another reason for the general public to hate us. :/ Satirical or not, this is just a really sad sort of thing to have out there - by an Anime convention, nonetheless.

Yeah I saw this commercial a while ago from the PR post. Agreed, I'm getting real tired of the stereotypes and this ad just fuels that fire. Someone as big as Vic should realize that this does not appeal to the general public. Something a little more "grown up" would have sufficed and would have been taken somewhat seriously. The style of this ad would have been perfect to advertise a new toy to a seven year old on The Disney Channel, not to draw people to a convention who's ages range from 6 - 60.

The creators calling it a satire is only in response to all of the bad PR it's getting. Otherwise they should of casted it differently and not paid an ICON money for a satire that is probably going to drop their attendance. Unless of course GIRUGAMESH guy is there signing photo's

That's the vid that the "chans" (4chan, 99chan, etc...) have been spamming. All over the web. I guess they're trying to do a Rick Roll kind of thing. They're doing more harm than good since they're not very good at viral marketing.

Well, I knew there was a reason why I keep skipping SakuraCon (which is closer to me than Anime Central).

That and the fact that SakuraCon is always held in April, which, as the eight inches of snow on my lawn inform me, is not a particularly great time to have a con in the Pacific Northwest.

Just imagine if the actors did things a bit differently, if instead of acting like weeaboo they acted in a mature and respectable manner, would your opinions of the commercial be the same? Plus that Girugamesh guy was awesome. I might just cosplay as him.

I think if they tried to be serious about it, the commercial would have come off as lame. At least it's lame AND funny, now, which is good for Youtube Poop and so forth.
