Here's an idea, how about we do a door decorating contest, basically decorate the door in anime stuff. I have done this before for Halloween at a hotel bash. The hotel had no problem with it.

I would ask this hotel if it is ok. It sounds like fun though. :3

I'm pretty sure the hotel wouldn't take kindly to us marking their doors with tape or whatever.

Tape doesn't ruin the doors, unless they're really crappy doors. As long as there's no profanity on there, I don't think it would be a problem. Still it would be best to ask permission of course.

That would be so much fun!! OMG, specially if you have a bunch of friends that could add to the awesome (and dude, would totally help in guiding those staying in specific rooms to the right room! *lol*!~) See if you can get the a-okay from the Hotel staff. It'd add to the awesome that is ACen. :)

Also just so you know it might make your door stand out more, for those who drink too much and then wonder around the hotel.

So make sure you don't cover the peephole if you do get the hotels ok to do this.

A friend of mine did this a couple of years ago and hotel staff or ACen staff came by and ordered them to take it all down.

I would guess that it was hotel staff, since it's their building/property. Perhaps allowing that sort of thing varies from hotel to hotel.

You'd probably want something non-absorbent between the paper sheet and the door, like wax paper or a cut-open/spread-out garbage bag, if ink of any kind is involved. Markers would likely be preferable to things like pencils or pens, since there wouldn't be any odds of indentations put into the doors (if they're wood) that way.

Either way this seems like a great idea and I'd vouch for it. Could be fun, as long as people don't get derogatory with it.

Tape leaves residues on pretty much anything. On some surfaces, it can be relatively easy to remove, and the damage isn't necessarily very much, but the hotel might very well object to this, and with cause. I'd seriously suggest asking the hotel for their policies, and please, if you do this, be very careful about what kind of adhesive that you use.

Poster tac is probably the best choice.

I speak not as a DH, but rather as somebody who was part of a student paint crew one summer, and had to remove tape residues and the like from walls before we repainted them.

Would this exclusively be for those staying in the Hyatt? Because if policies vary from hotel to hotel, that could automatically exclude some people (I, for example, am staying at the Hilton).

I will be staying at the crown plaza. I just thought it would make the hotels more festive for the occasion.

I dont think this would be allowed at ACen. IRT will ask you to take down whatever you have on the door if you are staying at the Hyatt. This has happened before. So definitely posting stuff on the door at they Hyatt is a no go.

Probably has to do with taping the doors. Sometimes tape can leave a sticky residue or may peel the paint off the door which cost money. Im sure thats the reason.

(Waves hand) Yes. Like I said before. The Hotel will bill somebody-- probably us-- for repainting costs. Tape is bad on doors. Your college tolerates it. The Hyatt won't.

Another thing to remember is the hotel may charge(reserves the right) you extra for cleaning, like if you were to smoke in a non-smoking room, or if you did damage.

Because the hotel yelled at the con and the con told them to take care of it.

We have a dry erase board for our room door. I don't think it has to be taped on. And actually if you use painters tape, that stuff doesn't tear up paint or leave marks. But of course, I'm not saying to do it if staff already said not to.

We [sorta] decorated our door for Pokettokon, but that was a small con and at the Super 8, which included taping signs to our door. They stayed up until we left and had no problems. I'm sticking with a dry erase board though (staying at the embassy). It's a nice way to show other con goers they aren't the only ones on that floor.

Be careful at other hotels too. You have to remember that these are 4 star high class hotels. So even if you are not staying at the Hyatt, but at one of the other hotels, they might also charge you if they find something broken, or peeled paint or such.

Also try the painters tape with the dry erase board on a door at home. Most painters tape in not strong enough to hold up something that heavy.

It sounds like tons of fun, but I can't afford the fines if I were to do it.

Usually painters tape will hold up a smaller board...as long as youre not in front of a bathroom. We had a board on our door here at school an it kept falling off no matter how we put it up. Quite annoying.

I figured we'd just keep it on the floor or whatever. Didn't even think about taping it on the floor.
