I've returned to once again call out to all jazz musicians for starting an anime jazz band! I'm looking for the works, a drummer, bass, piano, guitar, vocals, horns, if you can play it, sign up! I myself am an alto sax player of over 12 years. I have sheet music for Cowboy Bebop, Baccano! and Hellsing to share with band members so we can start off at full speed! I'll also be holding sessions at my apartment (nice sized living room, a cool roommate, and musicians upstairs). If you think you can be a part of this, I can send you the information. Ok! 3, 2, 1, Let's Jam!

I would freakin' love this. I was in a jazz band in high school and I miss it terribly. Only three problems:

* My drums are in storage in Wisconsin.
* I don't have any bloody TIME!
* I am way out of practice. I would easily need a month or two of hard rehearsal to rebuild my chops.

Still and all, one of my life's goals is to open the second set of a concert with Tank! I've always thought it would be the perfect opener for the second set because, let's face it, if you're at a concert, it doesn't matter if you've slipped away to the bar and you're waiting for a seven-dollar drink; if you hear that opening fanfare and drum fill, you're going to be sprinting back to the stage.

Sa-chan, I don't know how far Woodstock is from Chicago, but if you're willing to make it down here, there is room for you.

Riker, if you can get your drums from storage, Acen's not until May. I know an alternative method, but it requires a large sum of money (100+) to rent a rehearsal space with a drum set.

If anything I would have to take the train (metra) and thats about an hour. Unfortunately I've got college and a job, possibly two now so I'm a busy bee. I would really love to join up but I ish busy -__-

See items II. and III. from my original list. No time to rehearse; and I'm way out of practice. :(

Plus, if you're talking about performing at ACen, then there's no way I'd have time. I'm on my feet for the whole con as it is. (86 hours straight in 2007! Maybe I'll beat that record this year!)

Riker, hopefully you WON'T beat that record in 2009! We want to keep you in one piece and relatively sane. ^^

I played jazz flute for a while, but I'm also out of practice, in Michigan, and also planning to be on my feet for all (or most) of Acen, so I won't have time either. T_T

Yikes! never mind, then. I WILL make this happen, somehow! It will be a band of which the likes have never been seen!

Alright, a possible trombone and a singer! We're off to a good start! Any pianists, bassists, or drummers?

I know a pianist, I might be able to get her to come, but she's grounded for a while right now ;-;

I'm talking to a friend of mine who plays piano. I don't know if he's good with jazz, but I'm going to ask him. If he joins up, we have enough to start practicing. Once we start, others will come.

Alright, we now have a piano player! I'll start having sessions at my house in January. I'll PM people to see what works for them. For the record, this is what we've got planned for Acen:

Serial Experiments Lain
Lupin III
Katamari Damacy
Hellsing
Gunsmith Cats
Cowboy Bebop
Baccano

I don't know how good of a singer I am, but I've played Euphonium for 7 years and Valve trombone for 3 years. I'm currently a member of a community symphonic band, but we're known to play the occasional jazzy piece so I'm not terribly rusty.

Oh, wow. Sorry for the late reply. The Euphonium is Bb, right? We can definitely use the extra horn and vocal. I'll send you a PM as well, so you'll know the plan.

Alright, our current group consists of two trombonists, a saxophonist, a female lead singer, and a pianist. We have two probable male singers. I'll be hunting for drummers, but we can start practicing this weekend. I'll take that time to explain how we can work around it until we get a drummer.

I think we'll need a trumpet player, too. It's hard to have a jazz band without a trumpet unless someone plays it on a synth.

I definitely think we could use the trumpet, but it's still very possible to have a jazz band without one.

Narumi, I'd be happy to have you if it's not going to be a strain on you (physically and time-wise).

I want to have as many options as possible for this band. In my opinion, it's much better to have too many people than too few. Considering that Acen itself is a 3 day event, being able to switch up is a definite plus.

As an update, the first practice session will be held off until I can get a better grasp on people's schedules. This weekend won't work due to conflicts.

I'm sure your probably busy, but when you get a chance, can you scan the music as a PDF and send it my way? I wouldn't mind getting some practice in before the first rehearsal.

I wonder if my parents would be cool with this... they'd probably be happy I'm actually pulling the instrument out of my closet and using it. :D
If times and location are doable for me I can:
play the clarinet [haven't for years but I think I can dust it off well enough]
sing [much better at this... >>]
Oops can't afford to go to ACEN anymore! >:

Heads up to everyone. I'm having some trouble right now with my computer and apartment (heater isn't working right, and it's 47 degrees at my place). I'm at my girlfriend's place right now, but I'll let everyone know when I'm back online. I can send everyone music then. Until then, I obviously can't plan sessions at my place, and I'll be looking for some other place we can practice for free (or really cheap) since my apartment is cold. *Sigh*

I live in a 1-bedroom apartment in Wheeling ( 15-20 minutes away from Mitsuwa ). I'd have to talk to my neighbors about it, of course, but if you can't find another place to rehearse, just let me know.

Whoa!! I wish I'd known about this earlier! I'd LOVE to do this if it gets off the ground. Maybe ACen 2k10? I'm SO in if wedding/honeymoon plans don't coincide with the timeline :D

My main instrument is Bb clarinet but I did play jazz cornet for a couple years in HS/college. Although with the current setup we'd have more of a symphonic band than a jazz one, LOL.

Anyway, please PM me, anyone, if this is to materialize!!
Acen 2k11 getup:

::Togepi, starring Baby Garcia!!!! (He's still incubating and will be a month old as of ACen weekend ^_^)
