Okay guys! I just got through with Critical Mass. For those of you that dont know what that is, it is a giant meetup of bicycle-riders that meet at the Daley Center every month and just dominate the streets. I'm not kidding you! We take over every lane of traffic and we are just a giant mass of bike-riders! Over a 1000 people on bikes. Hence the term Critical Mass.

Now, because this is a monthly event, they are having one next month. And because the next one is on Halloween, everyone dresses up in costumes and rides their bikes like that. SO I figured this would make an epic meetup idea. We could all dress up in cosplay and ride our bikes in the mass.

The ride will be Friday October 31st, 2008 around 5pm, and you leave the Daley Center at around 6pm. The ride is on the 31st, I am aware of the fact that some people will be at Youmacon. But for those of us that can't go to Youmacon, I thought this would be awesome and fun to do.

We will be meeting as a group at 4pm in Millenium Park by the Bean. You must have several items with you in order to do this ride:
1.) A working bike (duh)
2.) Water bottles
3.) Cosplay/costume. This is a cosplay meetup, just make sure that it is something comfortable to ride a bike in
4.) A helmet, I say this because the worst accidents happen when someone else hits you from behind, however I will not enforce this rule considering that it is not a law....yet
5.) Cell phone, if you get seperated from the group this is how we stay in contact.
6.) If you can't get a bike.....a skateboard works too.

Okie dokie! Thats my rules and my plan. Let's go for it!

I'll be at Youmacon. Though if you set this up around spring break, I think it would be a funny idea. (I need to get myself a bike. I haven't owned one since the 6th grade.)

Critical Mass happens every month. The last Friday of the month is when they do it, so when one comes around in the springtime I would be totally willing to set this up again.

@Amy, and yeah I'm sorry I know you wanted to be there but the website says the last Friday of every month....that happens to be Halloween.

Hhmmm, unless I'm helping hand out candy with my friend at her place I think I may join you!

What's the distance y'all cover? Because I do have a good bike I bought just a few years ago but I really don't have stamina, because unfortunately I just don't have the time to ride as much as I'd like. But heck, I think Captain Jack Harkness can bike out there with y'all ;)

The distance is anywhere between 10-30 miles however you can pull out of the ride at any time. The pace is relatively slow because of the fact that there are over 1000 people there.

And if you are able to make it I would love to have you! ^__^

Woah, you don't know how to ride a bike?

Isn't that like one of the steps of childhood?

xD I clearly lack a childhood.

I think my dad's the only one in my family who actually knows how... and I doubt he was ever around enough to teach me... >>

Anyway, this sounds like it would be fun in the spring, as someone else suggested, when a con won't be on the same day...

Eee...Yeah I think I might be able to manage like two miles...the most I've ever done at a stretch was 5.

Plus I found out our annual Halloween seance is back on so I guess I won't be able to make it :( Ah well, probably better not to try and set off my asthma by overdoing it on a bike.

ill be there riding on mass, ill swing by the bean though. the ride is mellow, youd be surprised how easy it is to ride 20 or so miles when youre relaxing.

DO NOT ride a skateboard in mass, it is dangerous.

last month I saw a guy hit a crack and his board stopped and he almosr caused many riders to crash.

its a BIKE ride.

sorry to be a cop... but yeah, skateboards are not for this sort of thing

look for the murdered out black track bike with disk rear wheel.
evol

im having a huge halloween bike afterparty at my house in logan square afterwards too, PM for details on that.
and it feels like we're living in that split-second of a car crash..

Well, I have some bad news in temrs of the meetup and happy news for myself.

I have just gotten ahold of Wicked tickets! Even though I have seen the show three times I felt the need to see it again before they leave. The bad news is that the show is on October 31st at 8pm. And I need to pick up my tickets at 6:30pm or I lose them...so I sadly have to cancel this meetup.

There is a Critical Mass every month and I'm willing to try this again in the future and we can still cosplay but sadly this one is a no-go. To those that are still going enjoy!

why cancel the meet-up just because you cant go though?

I say it should still be on.

p.s. I'm having a huge halloween afterparty at my place in logan square afterwards.

lots of cool bike people, and cool people in general. come hang out.
