If I recall they were building a brand new hotel thats kinda across from the Convention center. I cant remember the name of it, but I know its a pretty big one. I think it may be done before ACen, im not sure. If so will that play a major part in the overcrowding situation? Just wondering.

The sign I saw said done in summer of 08 so it should definitely be done for ACen 09 even if things run late for them. I don't think theres been any talks yet but I know ACen will be looking at it due to how close it is. Sadly I did hear rumors that it is supposed to be expensive >.< hopefully that's not true.

I could tell it looked pricey just from how they were building it. I think prices at that hotel will be more then at the Hyatt, but it will also be brand new- and really pretty.

But the decideing factor on if we use it fior fuction space is going to be how much space it has and how much it costs.

We will all just have to wait and see.

I just found out the name of the place. Its the InterContinental Hotel and yes, it is very pricey. Its one of those luxury hotels and just from looking at it its gonna cost an arm and a leg to stay there. But if people have the money to stay there then more power to them because its very $$$$

Pricey is right.
Just for fun I did a room rate thing, for 3 nights for what would be during the con- 2 people in a double room. This is what I got: Rate Range $261.00 - $329.00

So yeah really pricey but it also looks really nice.

Intercontinentals are usually very nice, which makes it hard to believe that they own the Holiday Inn chain as well. The best rate I could get was $205 for the days of the convention for any type room. Which is around 20% off and that is really a bad discount on the government rate, Hyatt and Marriott offer usually between 30 to 50 percent off.

We'll probably be looking into it for a room block. It might garner a pretty good discount depending on what else is available to them at the time. Just remember the Hyatt room block rate is usually substantially discounted from the rack rate they charge. I was walking out last year and I heard some guys saying well "this place better have ____ because I'm spending 240 a night" or something like that.

Before the room block was open for the con and rooms were still available at the Hyatt over that weekend the rate was $399 per night before tax.

This is true. Im sure things will be worked out with the new hotel so we can accomodate more people looking for a room.

Without the Acen rate it doesn't appear too bad. But I'll wait to see if they'll lower the price with the Acen rate.

Out of personal experience (use to work for them), the company that owns Motel 6 (accor, based in france), also owns the Sofitel. As we all know, the m6 south of the con is very cheap (but a good walk), 50-60 bucks a night. The Sofitel, I don't know the rates, but I'm guessing it around 150-200 a night. Owning chains of hotels and motels is the best way to make $$$$!!
i'm back, for now anyway.

Really? Cause I'm looking at the reservation page right now, and I'm looking at this:

1 KING BED DELUXE (Non Smoking)
Rate Range $153.00 - $209.00 USD

2 DOUBLE BEDS (Non Smoking)
Rate Range $153.00 - $209.00 USD

Here's the site I'm looking at(Not sure if it'll come up though)
