So as everyone probably knows, cosplay chess didn't run for the third consecutive year at ACen 08. I've attempted for three years of attempts and no success. This will not be the case for 2009! Last year, I posted the Cosplay Chess event for 2008 three or four days after ACen 2007 ended, but due to some huge issues not told to us by the con last minute, it was cancelled for 2008.

On that note, everyone interested pleease SHOW YOUR SUPPORT. Let ACen know that 2009 is the year to finally bring Cosplay chess to the convention! Right now there is no guarentee that I will be able to make it to ACen 2009, but I will do my best to make this event run irregardless!

This year, I had a fantastic group of people working with me on trying to get it together. The proposal is ready to be sent it as soon as ACen is ready to take stuff for next year. I want to jump the gun OFFICIALLY for this year, because if this year is not my final ACen, next year will probably for sure be it for a few years. (I go to college in the Fall of 2009).

So come on guys. Bring your thoughts, and let's try and make it work!

We definetly need staffers to start posting in this thread and get some information that is required for running this next year. If we need to hire people to put down a board and it costs money, we need to know that in advance. I want this event to run for next year, and I will do whatever it takes. I'm sure people wouldn't mind paying a few dollars to come and watch such an amazing event!

Right now, I don't want to open registration for who gets what part yet. That's too complicated to get into right now, especially because everyone's plans change towards next year's ACen. What I need are people who are interested, to show ACen that we really want this event to run. I appreciate all you guys showing interest for doing this again next year.

Right now the use for this thread will be to get people more aware of this event and to make sure it runs next year. If you guys are for sure going to do it, I will start a reg list soon.

As stated before, this event was a no - go 3yrs running. Now I refuse to see it go a forth.


Please keep in mind people need to help with setup and take down of the event. I suggest getting "staff" and actual ideas on how it should be ran.

sorry I haven't been on guys! Been extremely busy!

What happened this year was that last minute crap appeared when we decided to host it in the convention center, leading to no Cosplay Chess for this year. I refuse to see that happen again. Right now I'm extremely busy, but I'll continue to work on the stuff to get cosplay chess running! ^^

If it doesn't run with the convention, I will run it somewhere locally near the hotel, but not in the con center.

I think it's better to have every angle setup before making the event. I think there's numerous reasons why you had 3 attempts. I've spoken to the person who approves and disapproves events such as this one. Hence why, I haven't made a thread yet because I did not get everything covered for my event.

Yeah, I agree on why we have had two attempts and failed. In 2006, I didn't have everything ready. In 2007, I proposed the idea too close to the con. However, in 2008, we had everything done to a T. Rules, board, etc. All were finalized and done. The problem was that the convention found out only about two weeks before con that they would have to pay Union Workers to place down the board in the convention center.

We had been guarenteed a location, a day, and a time for Cosplay Chess this year. It was originally set to be Friday 3-5. Then it was changed to Sunday 12 noon to 3PM. About a week and a half before con started, I was notified that we would not be running Cosplay Chess. The reason? That the con just found out that they needed to pay union workers to put down the board. Because people told me that taping a board down would be a problem, I had one of the people working with us buy a bunch of fabric to create a Chess board to go around the convention's needs. Then, we were informed that 1. We would not need the board, and 2. we wouldn't have the event run. It was just annoying, and I just want to get around it.

We're ready to run this event. We just need help from the convention to do so. Both my friends and I are willing to put the time and effort together to make this event run. We were so close. We had been approved, given a time and everything, then it was ripped out from under us because the con had not confirmed something before it confirmed to us. I just want this event to run at my last ACen, before I disappear to the fun evil world known as college. >.<
