As seen here:

And the video footage..
http://uk.gamespot.c...he_spot20080417
(It's on the 62 min mark)
So, for the peeps who're going to Anime Central and have a video game related cosplay for the con. And since I don't see any threads that wants to make an attempt to do this. I might as well do it... -.-
Who wants to gather up at ACen just for the hell of it, make an unofficial attempt for breaking that record for "The Largest Gathering of Games Characters"??
Yeah, I'm VERY aware A-Kon is doing this (officially, cause they have a Guinness rep). And yes we might get easily beat.... But come on, this is ACen, yo... Might as well do it at this con...
Here's the time we'll meet up!...
Day: Saturday
Time: 2pm to 3pm
Location: Inside the Rosemont Convention Center Lobby!
-------------
The Crew:
SoulCrash: Leader / Cameraman / documenter / head count / everything!.
Celeste_Orchid: 2nd in command / Promoter / head count
probably need more help than this...
-------------
Confirm/unconfirm groups that'll come along..

We could easily beat 80, but A-Kon is definitely gonna crush us. I wonder if we can get a Guinness rep to show up?
Sadly won't be attending ACen 2012. So I'll be taking my cosplay up a notch for 2013.

I read through the guiness's web site.. and cause of the time between now and ACen... it'll cost us money for us to drag a rep in... but.. regarding AKon... I'm having doubts they can pull it off..... I'll do my best to get our numbers above AKon.... (even though the ACen record won't count... atleast we have video proof of that happening)

Any idea how much it would cost? I know some people that would pitch in if we can manage this. Actually looking at their page "It is possible to establish a record without having an adjudicator present at the event " If we register & can find two witnesses we should be able to manage. I know you've can cover the video & I'm bringing a Canon Rebel XTi to cover pics.
The biggest problem I see looking at A-Kon's thread is "Duplicates will be disqualified."
Sadly won't be attending ACen 2012. So I'll be taking my cosplay up a notch for 2013.

On the FAQ site... how much is £300? Cause that's how much it'll cost if we want to use the fast track option... We can make it for free if we have 4 to 6 weeks to spare... -.- *face fall flat*.
as said here..
Quote
- How long will it take for me to get a response to my record-breaking application?
Each year we receive around 65,000 record-related enquiries from people who want to set or break records. Due to the number of queries we receive, it usually takes us between 4 and 6 weeks to reply, although sometimes it may take longer given the sheer volume of claims and queries we receive. However, if you need an answer quicker than this, we are able to offer our premium "Fast Track" and "Fast Review" service.
It currently takes between 4 and 6 weeks for our researchers to reply to a record application. However, if you need an answer quicker than this, we are able to offer a premium "Fast Track" service.
This service ensures that your application is reviewed and a response sent to you within three working days of receipt of your Agreement Regarding Record Attempts, here in the London office.
This service carries a charge of £300*, and payment must be received by Guinness World Records before we can process your application.
- If you use the service and your record suggestion is approved by us, or is a current Guinness World Records category, we will get back to you within the three days with relevant rules so you can go ahead and attempt the record, as soon as possible.
- In addition, should you have any subsequent queries regarding your attempt, we will answer those as a priority up until the date of the attempt.
But where did you get "Duplicates will be disqualified." Cause at the UK event... there was 15 marios (kids) in that event, and it counted???? (I think?)... But one of the major rules for that record is.... EVERYONE has to stay in that one spot for 15+ mins... Costume quality doesn't matter? (I think). And the character that they're cosplaying as has to be originate from the video game first then any kind of media...

I got the "Duplicates will be disqualified" from A-kon's thread on cosplay.com
£300 is roughly $474.07 if that symbol is Euro dollar. $598.98 if it's pounds. So I don't think that's gonna happen. But I thought the fast track option was just for faster judging not for saying we're gonna attempt it.
Gotta find another computer my laptop battery is at 1%.

DAMNNN!!!! that's a crap load of money!! And as for the fast track option... that's only if you want your application to attempt for a record to be process faster...
But on the notes for AKon.... I want to say... MAYBE that they'll get a record or come close to our numbers, etc..etc..etc.. But they sure have some factors on doing this since I've been there... Like I can't believe they have to do it inside of a 300 peep panal room... I just hope they won't over do it that they'll break fire code or something.. Then there's the Texas heat if they're force to do it outside of Downtown Dallas...
And reguarding the "Duplicates will be disqualified"... That's only if they enter their name twice on the sign in sheet? or if one person wears more than one costume in.. less than 15 mins???
Also.. there's a FaceBook event page as well...

From the sounds it we have register, they send an agreement, we send it back signed, they send us the guidelines, we make the attempt & send proof. From their site "sometimes we may ask for more info, or even invite you to attend an official Guinness World Records adjudication to verify your claim in person" & "it currently takes between four and six weeks to reply to your record application once we have received your signed Agreement."
From the sounds of it ACen need to make an official attempt in 2009 so we can have all paperwork handled well ahead of time.
Sadly won't be attending ACen 2012. So I'll be taking my cosplay up a notch for 2013.

That's why I made a giant disclaimer saying this isn't official.. blah blah blah... If we gotta do it next year.. I still want to be in charge of this...
Let's just treat this as a "benchmark" for the AKon peeps to break.... Then as soon as this con circuit series is over.. then we can have a better idea on which number to break... You may never know if Anime Expo, or Otakon might make an attempt this year..... -.-

Here's a simple answer..... No... Cause you should ask yourself this... In which I didn't get to post on the first post..
#1. Did my character first originate from a video game...
-example
-Mario, Sonic, Solid Snake, Cloud... etc..etc..etc... yes...
-Goku, Naruto, some other anime character.. No.. cause they first came from the anime/manga... yeah.. they're in a few games.. but they didn't originate from a game...
#2. Does my character's costume originate from a game..
- example...
-This is where things will get confusing... Like.. Let's say Advent Children Cloud, and pretty much his whole party except Red XIII and Cait Sith (and maybe Vincent). Their costume first came from the movie. Yet later in the year they're back in Vincent's game
-For Pokemon. Ash Ketchum doesn't count.... Misty, Brock.... yeah, but it has to be their (first) video game form...
#3. What about "Furries"? Like Fox, Sonic, Tails, PokeMon..
- I really don't know what's the call on that one... I know if you do like a full costume of them... Yes. If you do a "Humaniod" version... I guess that counts too, cause I saw an Amy Rose from Sonic. and she just did a "Human" version of that... as seen in this pic... http://farm3.static.flickr.com/2063/234243..._16ef24ee4e.jpg
#4. What about The PokeMon Gianji *sp*?
- I doubt that it'll count towards the record, cause the design were someone's art work....... I guess it'll be Guinness's decision on that....
#5. What about card / board games.... Their games too..
- Yeah I said gathering of game characters... Guinesss should of been more specific when they called it "Largest Gathering of Games Characters"... -.-
I hope those will answer your questions...

Because... I think we need a Guinness rep to make it official official..
And the reason why I said it isn't doable is cause... of the 4-6 week waiting period, we dont' have 4-6 weeks..... The alternative is spending $600 for an instant reply, in which it'll work... But I don't want to waste $600 + other expensives on a record that could be broken in two weeks (AKon) or in two months (Otakon?)..
Then there's the number I want to get... which is.. 300+!.. and you know with that many peeps... there's going to be problems... as you know... 300+ peeps is a fire harzard waiting to happen... and I only got a few spots that I can probably can use... as in this post here... http://www.cosplay.com/showpost.php?p=2389...mp;postcount=49
But if you're serious about this... we need to talk.... And I think I (errr we?) can get atleast 200 video game cosplaying peeps in one spot...

If I remember right... the game monster rancher was first, then the anime.. but the two main human characters that appear in the anime... that's a no.
.hack.... damn... I don't know the answer to that one... I think it first started as a game... then anime/manga... it all depends on the character since I haven't played that game...
Pokemon first came out as a game.. but it depends on the character you're doing...
Digimon... -.-.... I think it started as a virtual pet toy like a tomagotchi *sp*?.. not sure if that count towards a video game...
all I can say from this point on... is.. use your best judgement... and if you can prove to me that this character first appeared in a video game than other media.... there ya go...
