I was just curious as how one gets to do some art/graphics for ACEN.

you have to be on the production staff but it hardly ever opens up with new positions

There is the chance to get your art in their special doujin book though. If you're interested there is a link to all the rules and such on the ACen homepage.

Is there a way to get some references of the Acen mascots on the website?

This is my friend Levi's first year attending Acen and she wanted to submit her work for Doujinshi Central, only to call me and say, "I can't find a single good picture of these mascots, Elle, Jaye and Kit on the Acen website. How am I supposed to draw them if I don't know what they look like?" Hmm..good question Levi! ^^;

Any photos or previous drawings of the mascots would be greatly appreciated. Thank you!

We are always accepting art for DoujinshiCentral, which is published at-con, and sized at 5.5"x8.5". For DC, we accept almost anything—from fully-colored pretty art for covers to comic strips for the inside. To submit artwork, please email the Production DH at: production@acen.org


I will also say that anyone can apply to be a staff artist. However, being a larger con, we hold high standards for the artwork produced and cannot accept everyone who applies. But don't let that discourage you! I am already considering artists for 2009. Please PM me if you're interested with a link to any online portfolio you might have.

As for obtaining references of our mascots... you can always do a search for "acen mascots" or "anime central" on deviantART, and you will be able to view some artwork from past and present staff artists who have posted it there. We have three mascots:

Elle Aoi: She is one of the sisters that should be drawn with longer, wavy hair. Her hair color can vary from a light blue to a light lavender, depending on the artist.
Jaye Aoi: She is the Aoi sister featured in our logo. Her hair is usually a dark purple, straight, and about chin-length.
Kit Akai: He's a red fox who sometimes turns human. He has two tails (though a lot of artists miss that detail), and in his human form these tails translate to his ponytail.

Wow!! That sure brings back memories... especially the shoujo one from Doujinshi Central.. I think it was either 2000 or 2001? I love that one.
