I ran into a couple of question on the forums about what train to take to get to ACen or what direction is the Hyatt Regency O'Hare and how far is the walking distance from there. Well I have the answer..I hope. Its the CTA's trip planner! Use this if you are only taking public transportation as a means of getting to ACen or any hotel within the rosemont area.

How does it work? Just type in your address on the "Start" section on the left side. And For the ending, type in the address of the location you are trying to get to on the "end" section on the right side. Here is a tip. On the "End" section you will see at the bottom "City Optional" or "Select An Attraction/Landmark." If you decide to choose that, you should See "Rosemont Convention Center." Select that. I use this as guide so that way you can use it as a quick, easy way to find the Hyatt, DoubleTree, and Embassy since they are located in that same spot

Here is what the guide looks like. Use this and be merry folks! Oh and a one way ride on the cta will cost you $2.00. If you have a Chicago Card its only $1.75

Oh, I've been using that lately!

It's really awesome and has great detail. Even if you have to walk, it will give you a link with directions of how to get to the next stop/station, and you can choose whether you want all trains, or buses and trains, and whether or not you want to walk a lot. It also gives you multiple itinerary options and transfers between options like Metra, Pace and CTA.

As a total n00b to public transportation, I give it a thumbs-up as well!

No problem. I figured this would be easy for those that are taking public transportation to acen and if its their first time, I dont want to get them lost. But it is very helpful!

Oh my goodness, this is excellent. Seeing as I'm going to be living in the city next fall, this is going to help out a LOT when I'm trying to get places I'm not familiar with via public transportation. Not to mention it'll help me now too, seeing as I have no sense of direction and am terrified of going places I don't know! xP

Public trans is a great way to get downtown without having to drive there.

The $5 day-long guest pass is well worth it.

I can answer that for you. I say take the blue line train to Rosemont. The walking distance is not bad either. Now if you took the metra, youd have a bit of a way to go. I took the Metra last year. The elevator didnt work and I was struggling to take my luggage up 3 flights of stairs, the sun was bright and you had a bit of a way to go to get to the Hyatt. The blue line is simpler and easier. Trust me. Its better this way.

Okay. So the blue line . . . is that a straight shot or are there transfers? I hate transfers I tried using the trip planner and it came back with, well, all kinds of things. I hate travelling.

When you use the trip planner youre gonna see more than one way to get to Rosemont. These are alternatives. They show you which bus to take, where to transfer on to the bus or train, and it gives you a total cost of your ride altogether. I always go with the first one. Its easier and more effective.

The Blue line is just a straight shot. Granted it will make a few stops along the way, but its straight shot. Once you get off on rosemont youll see a bus terminal. the hotel and the con its self is on the left side. Make a left turn, and keep walking past thu the viaduct. You cant miss it. Youll see the hyatt and the convention center and the embassy suites. You cant miss them. But the blue line is the best way!

Google Maps now has the CTA integrated into their mapping system, so when trying to figure out a route input the start location and destination and click the "public" transportation routing.

For those curious -

I took the Amtrak from Champaign, IL to Union Station on Thursday Afternoon. There were a lot of Acen people getting off of that train, and one thing with Union Station - you may be lucky enough to find people from Acen who can help you get to the Blue Line station. We got on at UIC-Halsted. When we (my group and myself) came back to Chicago, we got off at Clinton Station.

Yeah, there was a meetup at Union Station. We all walked to one of the Blue Line stations and rode it to Rosemont. There was a lot of us, too. We all but took over one of the cars. There was only 4 people on the car that wasn't going to ACEN.

Just thought I would let everyone know that with the New Year came a rise in prices a one way is now $2.25 and I believe the price is also $2.25 with the chicago card.

Also as a note (I live in the area and walk past Union Station to the farther Ogilvie Trasportation Center to go home) To get to the Blue line you want to walk to the Clinton stop (about 2 blocks as opposed to like (total guess but I know its a decent amount farther) 8 for UIC-Halsted) and get on the train going towards O'Hare and take that to the Rosemont stop. If you are coming from Ogilvie you also want to go to the Clinton stop its still closer

thats ture the bus rates went up this year and for pace bus it went up to 1.75

Thanks! Is is super helpful. I'm really familiar with Milwaukee's bus system, but looking at this I'm realizing how incredibly crap it really is. AND our fare is $2. For a half thought out system with terrible seats and very little helpful information about anything.

Chicago keeps showing us up in everything. We took their migrant workers and never forgave us. (jkjk. Mostly jk. Kinda jk.)

My sister and I took the CTA last time(for the first time) and it was made of awesome cakes. We also had met up with a few people and luckily knew the way. But it was fairly simple to get to. So I don't know if we'll meet up again or not, if we do (especially on the train), we'll gladly pal around with people 8D

I've also been told that you can take the CTA Blue line all the way to the O'Hare Airport and then take the free shuttle. Less walking for those of you who take lots of bags. x3

WARNING. as of January 1st, You cannot use the 1 day fun pass on PACE buses. so if you gotta take PACE buses, have extra money. i heard that if you buy a 2 day pass....you might be able to....but i'd bring extra change just in case.

Just a heads up from experience from going up to Rosemont last week.

Actually, the only pass that allows a transfer to Pace is the 7 day or 30 day pass. And there is actually two 7 day passes one allowing transfers to Pace, and one not allowing it.

3-Day Pass -- $14.00 CTA only
7-Day Pass -- $23.00 CTA only
7 Day CTA/Pace Pass -- $28.00

I'm going to be in Chicago for the 8 days so I'm just going to buy the 7 Day CTA/Pace Pass, which for all of the out of towners can be bought online. Just leave around two weeks for it to arrive, last year it took 9 days.

If that is the case, that'll stink but it'll still be worth paying for the bus pass as well.

The blue line is a great, if not the best way, to get down to the loop and inner chicago.

If ACEN puts another ad on the lines, I so wanna take one

PACE runs the Suburban routes CTA runs the routes in the city of Chicago. So the buses around the Hyatt are PACE, the ones in the loop are CTA as are the trains other then Metra.

Well, that is good to know. I only typically use the inner city bus transportation as I will do the rental car in and around the burbs.
