HAHA, 'Twinkie'. XD Aww. I've been called a 'coconut'. I'm Filipina/Pacific Islander and I live on the border of Wisconsin and Illinois. There are like no Asians in Wisconsin and 472472472398427498372 Asians just across the border in Illinois. I grew up and went to school in Kenosha, Wisconsin where 90% people are Caucasian. I crossed the border, met Asian friends, and was ridiculed, lmao (in good fun, though; not seriously! XD).

Congratulations to everyone else that made the cut and I apologize to those that did not make it. I did not fill out a ballot (I don't like judging my competition like that D:>), but from listening alone, it was definitely some tough competition, especially since the songs and voices were very unique and had an overwhelming variety.

Also, a really big thank you to anyone and everyone that filled out the ballots. I have the utmost appreciation that you guys took the time to do that. It's people like you who are actually looking forward to the competition that I want to try my hardest for to guarantee a good show!

A meet-up sounds like fun! Is anyone else going to the Thursday night meet up? I intended to frolic there before the con. X] Ohh, man! I am so pumped for this competition! I just went to the Anime Punch con this weekend and sang my 1st round song in karaoke. I fooled around first, singing 'Viridian City,' but when it came to singing 'Yura Yura,' I kind of stiffened up and got kind of flat on the high notes. Definitely was nervous. I guess I was thinking of ACEN Idol too much. I picked it up by the end, but I'm glad I went through that experience!

It was fascinating to me how I could feel no shame running and jumping around on stage belting out 'Viridian City,' but how I was nerve-shot doing 'Yura Yura.' At least now I know what to work on, and I'll share with all my other competitors that it really helps to just let loose and think of it as having fun, rather than thinking about being judged at a competition. I think I shone way more that way at AP.

<3 I look forward to meeting all of you! I will tell you all in advance that I will not participate in any sort of drama or shenanigans. Please, let's all just have a great time; both competitors and the audience alike.

xD Being a twinkie is really a state of mind, I think. I was only in Taiwan until I was two, but I grew up in a very Chinese community and I identify with being Chinese more than anything. I mean, my uncle owns a Chinese restaurant, my mother runs a Chinese video store... and everyone in my family works in an environment where they can get by with just Chinese. I'm not sure how much more stereotypical you can get. There are parts of me that are undeniably American, but I love my native culture much more than I'm into American culture.

That, to me, makes me more a fob than twinkie. xD; Because you can't be a twinkie without being 'white on the inside'.

My dad was born here and my mom's from China, and for some reason I wasn't brought up to learn Chinese; dad might've something to do with it...=[
Anyway, they usually call Mahjong "MJ" lol.. I can't standing the tile shuffling, it's loud and it annoys me when I'm trying to watch tv xD

Sorry, I didn't realize how bombarded I would be.
Also, for karaoke versions of songs you can check by looking at the singer's discography. Usually if that singer doesn't include it in any of their CDs it is very unlikely that any karaoke version was ever released.

I don't see why this thread isn't in the "Special Events" board, the description for which specifically says "for events like...ACen Idol." This would have been very helpful to know.
I sort of understand why the signup was for March 30th, but for me (because I didn't have any clue where to find this information until I saw today that someone on Special Events linked here about it), I couldn't have possibly known in time. Better/more organization/advertisement for that would be much appreciated next time.
I don't quite understand why ACen Idol is required to be East Asian music. I know that it's supposed to be a convention celebrating otaku-ism, which is based on mostly favor towards Japanese culture, but why no English music? I just plain don't have any (legal) access to Japanese music that I could identify in any way (my only access is though iTunes podcasts that have obscure names for titles and artists, plus I can't read or even remotely understand Japanese). iTunes doesn't allow access to the Japanese music store and the anime section is crap, and I don't have access to any other viable (legal) music stores. You're automatically eliminating anyone like me who might be interested in doing this, and while I don't exactly know how many people that is, it does make me feel rather singled-out. You can argue "this is the way it's always been" but I haven't been here before so I can't be expected to know that.
I'm not asking that you change the whole system for one slightly dissatisfied customer (wouldn't expect that of anyone) so much as I'd like it to be a little clearer, instead of the thread miscategorized and not enough broadcasting of the news. I wanted so much to be in this that I was going to miss out on the SSBB tournament (which I have no chance of winning anyway) to participate, but since it's obviously too late, and because I wouldn't have a chance with my pathetic knowledge of Japanese language/music anyway, it looks like I'll be playing Brawl anyway. PLEASE be clearer with this next time.

Sorry you didn't know about this. Did you try typing "Acen Idol" in the forum search? Also, none of us are Japanese. This isn't purely a singing competition, but another event in the spirit of Anime and Japanese Culture, just like you said. It's like saying that the Acen game show should not be just about anime because it discourages people who don't watch that much, or that the Masquarade should not just involve anime characters because it alienates people who just like to dress up cool.
