You guys have been requesting it and this year we are giving it to you.

This year ACen will have it's first Hallway Costume contest. My name is Jessie and I will be running it. So if you have any questions or concerns, please direct them here or send me a PM.

Location:
Lambert B
Times:
Friday 3-7 and Saturday 11-3


Rules:
-Costume must be made by the person participating or the person who made it is present to speak with the judges.
-Participants MUST bring photo reference of the character they are portraying.
-NO original designs. Must be anime, manga, video game related, Japanese related or in limited quantities, Korean related.
-Entry line will be cut off no later than the times given. No exceptions.
-Costumes MUST be compliant with the IRT hallway cosplay rules. (A.K.A. 4'/6" rules) (NO EXCEPTIONS) If your costume breaks this rule, please enter it in the masquerade.

Awards:
Three Judges awards
Best Hallway (Individual)
Best Hallway (Group)
Best Character Likeness

The winners will be announced during the Masquerade. This is also when they will be given their awards.

There is no form yet, but it will be completely separate from the Masq. These are two different events.

Why aren't non anime costumes being judged?
Are non japanese video game costumes being judged?

Because there are two openings-one on friday and another on saturday-are we allowed to be judged on two different costumes?One for each day?I've experienced this setup in past hallway competitions.
Either way I'm thrilled that Acen has finnaly dicided to begin a hall cosplay-thanks for taking the initiative at last.

Because ACen is an anime and manga convention.

I will be using the masquerade rules as my basis here:
4) Costume Themes
All costumes must be directly based on Japanese Anime (such as Yu-Gi-Oh), Japanese Manga (such as Card Captor Sakura), J-Rock, J-Pop, Japanese Live Action (such as Godzilla and the Sentai contingent), or a Japanese origin anime-style video game (such as Final Fantasy). The rule of thumb: if the series and/or character originated any place other than Japan, it does not qualify. If you are unsure, ask.
With the successful test in 2005, Korean based anime/manga source characters will be accepted, though it will be in limited numbers.

We ask that you only enter once. It would be unfair since the awards are not split into days.

Just a question about prop size. Although this is a hallway contest, it is not actually being staged in a hallway. Why, therefore, do we need a prop size limit?
For instance, if a prop is collapsible into segments smaller than 4 feet but when assembled is larger than 4 feet, will it be allowed in the hallway contest?

Also to clarify, will entering the same costume in the Masquerade and in the hallway contest be prohibited?

How big does the picture have to be? I con only find small pics and when you make it bigger the quality gets worse. In the mean time I'll keep looking for bigger pics.

We just need to see your details. I'm sure if you put out a request in the cosplay board, someone could help you find a nice picture.

This may be a super dumb question, so feel free to beat me. But if we've come up with a different version of a character--say, for instance, a *ahem* sexier version--can we enter that? It won't look just like the character's original outfit, but will have enough elements from it to be recognizable...

I see that there is going to be a Halo pannel and enough people here at ACEN play the game
also, so i was just wondering if it fit the guidelines.
If not, then I will enter my kyuubi (3 tails) naruto.

As long as it is appropriate and doesn't deviate from the original design tooo much.
