Yeah, that's because you aren't really logged on as them. You're just seeing a cached copy of the HTML that index.php generated last; that data shouldn't be being cached, but it is.

I just spoke to our IT guy, who (a) isn't on the forums all that often, and so probably won't post anything here, and (b) doesn't get nearly enough credit.

Essentially, we know what the problem is and we know how to fix it, but it may be a little while, and it may incur some short bits of downtime. So hang on tight: we'll have this wrapped up soon.

Hell, I'd love to give him credit -- I know he's had a ton on his plate to take care of, not the least of which has been registration. That's why I'd like to help, if possible -- from what info I've gathered on the web, a few .htaccess files with the appropriate directives in them, placed in any directories containing PHP files, may remedy the problem with no downtime whatsoever. (It might not, depending on the Apache configuration on the server, but it is probably worth trying before trying anything else like mucking around with the forum engine...) Anyways, just a thought.

Gregly, the thought is appreciated. We actually have several directions for a solution to this; something along the lines of what you're suggesting is the first of a line of progressively heavier solutions. We need to tweak them to make sure they're right the first time we do them (less downtime is better), and we also need to let our IT guy do his day job. And the forums worked fine before, so we won't need to go screwing with the engine... which is good, because then they'd turn to me to do it and I don't wanna. ^^;;; I have enough PHP every day coding up the reg system... ^^;;;
