Hi to all. It's been a while - so busy getting ready for school this fall I haven't had a chance to hit up the ACEN DJ gig like I wanted :-(

With any luck I'll be able to make it down and catch the tunes, but it looks like I missed out on the DJ comp this year.

Just submitted my mix.
Had a question. How much equipment is too much? I'm spinning both vinyl and CDs, running that through three effects units, and operating three rack-mount synthesizers to play over the track. Everything is self-contained in an Odyssey rolling rack/table and I can easily set everything up in five minutes. It's just my style, even though they say that the more equipment you have, it's more likely that something will go wrong. Well, I spun at Youmacon and everything worked swell.

Also about the DJs playing one after another for the finals and semifinals. Should we be ending with a flat beat that the next dj can mix to, or can we go all out with a big finale? (Same thing goes for intros)

for the semi-finals and finals you will not be mixin in to another DJ's set.

as for you bringing in your own equipment it sounds like you've got quite a bit of stuff, what we will have for sure is 2 technic 1200's, 2 CD decks Pioneer's and a Pioneer Mixer DJM 500 or 600.

competition for this year is gonna be just slightly different.

instead of the finals taking place at the UnderGround Groove they will be held at the Car Show this year.

In addition, Kenny Benedict and last year's contest winner, NameLoc are in the finals via a bye as being last years finalists/winner.

However, I have been just informed that Saleet is not able to attend the con, so after a bit of thought, I made a decision.

We need to fill out this contest, so I'm gonna bring in some heat from DJ Battle Year One; I'm granting a bye to Grifty McGrift (Arc L'enfant here), as he was a contestant from our first contest and technically he placed fourth in that event (first place was Sha Liu, second was NameLoc, and third was InSilico).

BTW, InSilico, if you are reading this post, I'm gonna do you a favor and hold a bye for you as well, if you want to compete.

Saleet did a good job last year and I'm sorry that he's not coming back.

Kenny; I want to see you turn it up a notch or two this year and bring the heat.

NameLoc; I don't need to talk you up. Just do the damn thing.

We're doing something else different this year.

After talking with my partners in crime, Allen Castillo, and DJ OPM, we are going to hold the whole contest in the convention center this year. This way, folks will get a little more time to do it up, and we don't detract from the mad number of Bemani DJs we have in Underground Groove this year.

So that's it.

We have ten or eleven DJs ready to compete this year.

What else needs to be said?

Come hard, come correct, and come ready to beat that shyt!!!!

I don't know. I'm just going to take Beryl or Allen's word on it. Noon seems too early for the competition, even for dancers.
