Hey there.

Might there be any chance that someone is going to bring Serano Scratch Live, Stanton Final Scratch, or similar?

if your going to use a program like serato or stanton you have to bring your own laptop with it preloaded. i'm not sure if anyone will let you use theirs.

also the you can't let the program mix for you, you have to physically mix it on your own.

HAhahAha! You're too old to play!
Since you're a resident, maybe you should move to Pines Village Retirement Communities.

Hi to all. It's been a while - so busy getting ready for school this fall I haven't had a chance to hit up the ACEN DJ gig like I wanted :-(

With any luck I'll be able to make it down and catch the tunes, but it looks like I missed out on the DJ comp this year.

To all involved, you'd better pound it out all weekend! I want to see a party by all definitions! :P

Just submitted my mix.
Had a question. How much equipment is too much? I'm spinning both vinyl and CDs, running that through three effects units, and operating three rack-mount synthesizers to play over the track. Everything is self-contained in an Odyssey rolling rack/table and I can easily set everything up in five minutes. It's just my style, even though they say that the more equipment you have, it's more likely that something will go wrong. Well, I spun at Youmacon and everything worked swell.

Also about the DJs playing one after another for the finals and semifinals. Should we be ending with a flat beat that the next dj can mix to, or can we go all out with a big finale? (Same thing goes for intros)

for the semi-finals and finals you will not be mixin in to another DJ's set.

as for you bringing in your own equipment it sounds like you've got quite a bit of stuff, what we will have for sure is 2 technic 1200's, 2 CD decks Pioneer's and a Pioneer Mixer DJM 500 or 600.

To the folks who have submitted mixes in the last few days; thanks for stepping up!

We've got seven DJs now and counting the three from last year, we have a decent spread.

One thing; if you are a DJ and you have submitted a mix via YouSendIt, could you PM me here on the forums. Include your real name, your DJ handle, and the name of the mix you submitted. Also, let me know whether you have registered for the con.

Thanks.

I pretty much plan on playing Weird Science and Moving the Hype Track over and over again, just for you.

ANYWAY, can I ask who is all involved in judging?
Also, when will the "winners" be announced?
Finally, will the two returning DJ's from last year play in that DJ competition BEFORE Underground Groove, or just IN Underground Groove?
Additionally, will someone PLEASE crank that souljah boy?

competition for this year is gonna be just slightly different.

instead of the finals taking place at the UnderGround Groove they will be held at the Car Show this year.

No one'll see it in theatres. Might as well just make it straight to DVD.

ANYWAY, so you're saying all contestants (including the top DJ's from last year) will play at the semi-final competition (location tba), for 15-25 minutes, and then a few of them, (probably the 3 or so finals contestants) will play at the car show, later that day?

Where's the souljah boy?

Semi-finalists will be announced on this forum on or just after May 5th, 2008. If we do not get the requisite number of contestants, we will make an announcement and simply invite all submitted contestants to compete. To compete in the semi-finals, you have to be a registered attendee of Anime Central 2008 by the start of the semi-final round on Friday afternoon, May 16th 2008.

I imagine it'll take longer, since they had to extend the deadline in the first place.

you need to calm down sir. that will certainly get you black listed for swords.

i hope someone spins straight 90s music.
only haddaway, corona, and outhere brothers should be allowed for the competition.
if no one does the job, i might have to.

Okay...it's May 12th and I've been damn busy.

As it stands, the owners of these mixes have made the finals:

Epoch Fail: It Smells Like Teen Pregnancy
Entry Mix (DP)
Nocturnal Short
ACen Demo (Future Public Schools)
Andaloo Demo (Andrew DeLeon)
ACen Mix
Hyperspace Roadies Mix

Mad thanks to all of the above DJs for entering.

In addition, Kenny Benedict and last year's contest winner, NameLoc are in the finals via a bye as being last years finalists/winner.

However, I have been just informed that Saleet is not able to attend the con, so after a bit of thought, I made a decision.

We need to fill out this contest, so I'm gonna bring in some heat from DJ Battle Year One; I'm granting a bye to Grifty McGrift (Arc L'enfant here), as he was a contestant from our first contest and technically he placed fourth in that event (first place was Sha Liu, second was NameLoc, and third was InSilico).

BTW, InSilico, if you are reading this post, I'm gonna do you a favor and hold a bye for you as well, if you want to compete.

Saleet did a good job last year and I'm sorry that he's not coming back.

Kenny; I want to see you turn it up a notch or two this year and bring the heat.

NameLoc; I don't need to talk you up. Just do the damn thing.

We're doing something else different this year.

After talking with my partners in crime, Allen Castillo, and DJ OPM, we are going to hold the whole contest in the convention center this year. This way, folks will get a little more time to do it up, and we don't detract from the mad number of Bemani DJs we have in Underground Groove this year.

So that's it.

We have ten or eleven DJs ready to compete this year.

What else needs to be said?

Come hard, come correct, and come ready to beat that shyt!!!!

FASCISM!

On a serious note, doesn't the competition start at 12 (according to that other thread, Dancers, B-Boys, B-Girls, Meetup, etc.)?

I don't know. I'm just going to take Beryl or Allen's word on it. Noon seems too early for the competition, even for dancers.
