I'm on a desperate mission. I'm trying to not buy cd's based from an anime, but hope to find websites with downloads. It sucks when you can't get anime music from Itunes. Any help from you guys would mean a great deal to me.

Sis, the mention of downloads without paying is frowned upon the ACen Staff and on the forums. Just though you should know.
You cant download free music unless youre paying for it.

I know in Japan, I-Tunes has it where you can purchase j-pop/rock music. But thats in Japan only I think. The only thing I can suggest you can do is listen to anime music on the radio online. There is a slew of them! I know on AOL/XM radio you can listen to anime music there, they have another one where its all Final Fantasy music, and you have I tunes. They have a radio station called Japan A Radio. Its good but the only thing is the commercials are annoying and they cut through the music. Winamp is good also. Look for kawaii radio. If you go on their website, they will tell you whats playing and whats coming up next.

There's a way to buy iTunes off the Japan website--buy a Japanese iTunes gift card! It's perfectly legal, and you get your coveted Japanese iTunes downloads. (Although I think it's dumb in the first freakin' place that iTunes doesn't have a currency converter! Grrr... the flaws in potentially awesome ideas always tick me off.)

I'm at work right now, so I can't remember the site to get it from, but I'll update this post within the next five hours when I get home.

I remember now! J-list. They have a japanese I-Tunes card you can buy and you can dowloand their songs. It costs between $18-35. Here is the info for purchasing jpop/rock songs through I tunes.

Ah, darn it--beaten again! Yeah, that's EXACTLY the site where I buy my Japanese iTunes cards! Also, you can skip the waiting period on the shipping and have them send you the code on the card before they mail it, since that's really all you need.

Question about the Japanese iTunes cards: Do they work with a USA-based iTunes account? Or do you have to reregister as a Japanese user to use them? aka explain how one is used once bought.

You'll have to sign up for a Japanese iTunes account--just like your American iTunes account won't work for Japanese purchases, the Japanese one will be separate and will not work for the American purchases.

It all goes into the same pool of iTunes purchases, though, so you don't have to worry about searching out special file folders or anything.

I suppose that makes sense. I'm horribly computer illiterate, though, so if I ever do try this, someone will have to tell me how to make a Japanese iTunes account XD.

Well if your looking for anime openings, there is XXXXXXX. You have to register and stuff, but it's free and you can download anime music. If that helps.

iTunes doesn't have any anime downloads? I saw some Bleach and One Piece tracks there the other day.

I was lucky in that most of the anime songs I have I got from friends who either visited Japan or plunked down a great deal of cashola to get them. Nowadays though, I can pretty much get the same thing down at Suncoast or Sam Goody. Nor is it that expensive; I grabbed the Azumanga Daioh soundtrack for about $12 at Suncoast.

Well its not a download per se. But if you have winamp there are TONS of great anime radio stations you can listen to. XM satelite radio on aol is pretty good too.

The problem is licensing rights. There are people who don't want their stuff distrubuted in other markets for various reasons. That is why you need an address in Japan to use the gift card or Credit Card.

Thanks, excel. I appreciate the generousity. As for the topic, I can't see any other legal way to obtain anime music aside from purchasing the OST cd's.
