Have ANY badges been mailed yet? Seriously! The convention is only 2 weeks away! I registered early on, so shouldn't I have my badge by now? :angry:

What will happen if it gets sent way too late for me to get it in time? Or what if it doesn't get sent at all? Will I have to wait in that 4+ hour line to pick it up at the convention?

Well if you would have read the other topics on this you would know two things.

1.) A bulk of badges were sent out the 16th.

2.) They have not sent out all badges.

So please be patient.

I also suggest checking

http://www.acen.org/...showtopic=16385

To see if there are any announcements in regards to the badge mailings.

Most of the users have been discussing there.

No official word from any ...official people though XD

But the users are coming up with unofficial answers :)
Uh, hi!

Send me a pm if there's anything I could probably help with that is within reason of my current position and knowledge(con-goer).

Hope to meet some of you!

I've looked at those and it's as I originally thought, there has been no official word that any badges went out on the 16th like they originally said. So I bet none have been mailed. Plus, I ordered an anniversary badge. What if those aren't even printed yet or whatever?

They are printed. I know because I have a finished one. The past two ACEN staff meetings have been "Badge stuffing" meetings i.e. stuffing into envelopes and mailing them. Hopefully someone else on staff will respond, as I have no more information because that's not my department.

Perhaps people HAVE been getting their badges but from some cosoclismic event, all of the people that HAVE recieved their badges never bothered to sign up for the ACen forums *nodnod* Ever think of THAT one? Hrm? :P

Lol I'm sure people are getting badges or will be soon :)
You all must remember that this is a big con with not as many staffers as they'd like ... therefore things might be a bit slower, but they will get to you :)

And I'm sure the split second one of us gets our badge in the mail, we'll going to take a freaking picture of it as proof and post it up here for everyone.

Staff is working their freaking butts off, and all we can do is sit back and wait - not to mention appreciate everything they're doing for us. Some people take all of the work that staff puts into this stuff for granted. Everyone on staff, I thank you immensely for putting your hearts into getting this all done on time for us, and making our con experience the best it can be. <3

Yes, kudos to Berry for a response/answer from Staff.

We do appreciate any info you can give us. Even if its just to say "Yes, they have been mailed out!"

I wasn't available for the badge stuffings because I was busy laying out this year's program book. So I do not know the status of actually mailing out. But I know they were all printed and at least stuffed. Beryl (con chair) did say in another part of the forum that some were mailed the 16th and the others were being sent out in waves.. so... there you go.

Just trying to alleviate some concerns.

If you have such a hard time believing it, volunteer next year.
If every person who ever complained about how stuff is run at ACEN - or how they're doing such a lousy job - volunteered, the staff would never be in need of helpers. And some things probably wouldn't be behind schedule because of them. :]

'Aygen', kindly drop dead. I have every right to be upset about this, and so does everyone else crying here on the forums too. It is astounding to me that Acen manages to even happen every year with the level of total disorganization that goes on. Promises are never kept and nothing ever happens the way staffers say it will. Don't even get me started about the "online" registration problems or the website issues....

Here it is, two weeks from the con and I haven't seen anyone get their badge yet. It's like having a wedding and expecting 10,000 people to arrive but not bothering to send out the invitations until the night before, if at all.

The bottom line is, badge mailing should not be offered as an option next year because the overworked Acen staff simply can't handle it. And Aphrodite, I would volunteer if my health would permit it, but it won't.

I want my stupid badge. I don't want it to arrive AFTER the con or something. I don't want have to wait half a day in line trying to get another one when I get to the con either. What a disorganized hell badge pickup will be this year with all of the problems everyone had with registration and such!

That's pretty infantile, riversoblood. There's no need to get hostile about the whole thing. We get that you're worried, we get that you're annoyed, and we get that you're impatient for some news...but you really shouldn't expect anything from anyone while you act like that.
I'm sure they will set up some sort of system, or something. They're not going to screw everyone out of a mailed badge, so stop acting like the world is going to end, if you don't get your badge NOW. They're TRYING to make it EASIER on people, so we don't have to stand in LINE. Just think, if mailing the badges wasn't even an option, you'd STILL be standing in a LINE. I for one, don't want to make them regret the offer, or make their lives more stressed, by complaining about something they didn't even have to offer.
Bottom line...Staff isn't gonna leave us totally hanging. Don't fret.

I talked to Jay today. He ensures that we ARE sending out the badges, and he will have a contingency if something goes awry.

Alright, I REREAD the thread. Please do calm down. I understand that this is a very worrisome topic.

The first thing I will say is, the date that registration decided upon this year was calculated based on the fact that we would be able to get the badges complete and sent AND received on time.

Now here's my speculation (read not official). Part of the fact that it was sent in the last month of the con was probably to
A. Give as much time to those who wanted it to be able to get it;
B. Allow a collective time for putting things together, aka many hands make light work but only when all the work is there;
C. Give people as much time to order anniversary badges so we can meet the demand for them;
D. To limit the time for counterfeiting.

Now again, I'm not saying that this is what went through registration this year. But as someone who has worked many other conventions, I would not be surprised if that was indeed the reasoning.

This is our first year doing this, as always the first year is the rockiest. We will get better at it, and it will be more efficient. For those of you who have opted for this option, thank you for helping us this year. I will say by personal opinion of our staff, we won't leave you hanging, especially because this is new. If we had been doing this for 10 years we probably would have it down so well that this wouldn't be a concern.

I was just on the phone to my brother who is at the moment in the MAPS Office working on the last 300 or so of 5,000 pre-regs that need to go out.

Unfourntely there is only so much time in a staff meeting and we can only get so much done. Many people have been working nights- after their paying jobs- to go and work on mailing out the badges. Some even staying as late as 1am . Then getting up going to work all day and then going back to help do more badges.

I don't think reg knew that 5,000 people were going to take them up on the offer of haveing their badges mailed out to them. If they did they might have set the deadline a bit sooner.

So they are going out. They are printed. Just keep your pants on.

Well i am new so i cant say much, but it is understandable many people are worried, but it would help now that is it obvious when advertising mailing badges, to avoid the lines, many people will take up the offer. I can understand that this is a big thing done and alot of people attend so it might be hard to prevent duplicates, maybe a thing that could help is if you could make the badges secure so they cant be duplicated, like making scan bar codes(thought with a big event like this would be impossible) or you can make an offical legal logo that cant be copied. anyone can make a badge with images and such but not a brand seal that can be authentically placed on the badge. But its my opinion and you staffers have lives and such.

We are obviously exploring further methods of security for future years. There are a lot of things that are different when you work in mailing to the anti-counterfeiting.

You should have an official Acen stamp of approval!! *raises fist triumphantly* ^_^

... you know ... to make it so people won't counterfit ... or or do what they used to do back in the knight's ages ... use a wax seal B)

Yeah like Amunet said, at my job and for the therapist who work for the company, we required certain documents and certificates and such, and many of them require the actual seal embedded into it, so it if offical that it is real thing. If you make badges like that, for example, you can make it obvious if it is real or fake, they make machines that you embedded logos on but if you make a one of a kind seal only for ACEN, it is highly, highly unlikely that the badge will be copied. We have had people bring in stuff and it LOOKS like it real and its not, thats mostly why many legal and offical items have specials logo, material, etc for that company. It could help a little , cause a lot can happen while mailing stuff, people steal mail for no reason at all, even when it is not money.
