Myself and a few friends were curious as to the ruling on this. Anyone know if Rosemont has included themselves in that complete no smoking ban? If not, I have another question[s].

If smoking IS allowed in the town itself, are there designated areas in the hotel to smoke, or do people just have to step outside? I would imagine [especially with the rennovations] that they would not allow smoking anywhere in the building ...

I've just gotta ask now so I'm not getting smoking tickets or anything like that during the con! x_x

It is the whole state law that there is to be no smoking at all in or near any public buildings unless it is a designated smoking room. State law now prohibits smoking within 15 feet of any public entrance or ventalation intake for a building.

The deadline is more for bars, other places have had to go smoke free before then for one reason or another.

When I get to the con, I'm going to ask a random police officer the full details on it and just pretend like I'm not from around there. Lol ... If not that, I'll just start smoking outside and wait for someone to yell at me.

Its not state wide yet though; the ban is a gradual movement and it is determined by the individual county goverments, like dekalb county and the chicago area have a solid no smoking in any establishment ban but in lake you can still have smoking sections in resturants.

I thought so. That's why I was confused when someone said that the statewide ban was put into effect. And some establishments are even given the option of whether or not to ban it. Perhaps I'll try and find some details on it on zee intarwebs later if I'm bored.

hopefully they still have smoking rooms. I supposedly have a smoking room reserved I don't mind the ban to an extent, but at least give me the room I'm spending good hard earned money on to smoke anytime I need one.

Well true not everywhere in the state has done away with smoking (deadline to do that is July 2008 I believe), but Cook County has. The county that Rosemont is in does have the smoking ban in effect. It was voted in 2006 that the county be smoke free by 2007 and that was one of the laws that went into effect as of the new year. Here's a copy of the story I found through NBC 5 from March 2006, it's copyright to NBC and WMAQ and all the other stuff so I don't get in trouble legally for posting this up but it explains what has gone on in our wonderful county *rolls eyes at that statement she just made*

So basically that means come Acen 2009 (or maybe 2008 depending on what Rosemont as a village does) there will be no smoking at all in Hyatt (this is also assuming we're still there for Acen 2009 ^^).

I broke down & bought a pack, so yeah I'll be smoking & causing trouble. I'll measure out 15ft & sit right there til somebody has their back turned.

I got yelled at for doing that at work yesterday as well. I was told to push carts & being slow I wandered inside a few times. My boss finally told me not to go within 5ft of the door unless I was pushing carts in.

I measured it out & put tape down. Whenever his back was turned I'd step over the tape & get back on my side before he turned around or when there were no carts I'd sit barely on my side of the line.

Lesson he learned: Never challenge me, I'll always get my job done & annoy you within the boundaries you set.

No offense, but I am slightly happy with the ban, but that's only for personal issues with my family.

I feel for the smokers at ACen though... You guys can smoke around me, I don't mind... I'm around it at work all day anyways!! lol.

I usually just go outside, light up, and make friends with those outside doing the same. I created 'smoke-con' at Anime Punch in Ohio a couple weeks ago. Twas fun.

If anyone plans on looking for me either around the con or while you're outside smoking fags [yes, I throughly enjoy calling them that ...], here's a brief description of what I look like - SUPER tall girl; about 6'0, ridiculously pale, thick rim glasses, dark short hair, two lip piercings, lots of ear piercings, ... I'm just basically a really lanky white girl. xD
