Far to long I hated what 4Kids Entertainment has done to anime. Especially One Piece, Shaman King, Yu Gi Oh, Tokyo Mew Mew and Do Re Mi. They were heavily edited and watered down when they had the saturday morning lineup. What insulted me the most was the fact that during its rise CEO Al Kahn said "children cant read." Now that 4Kids is losing steam and profits and their stock is down significantly and with certain projects cancelled ( I heard that more anime was on the works but they stopped it), and children no longer watching toons on saturday morning, and the Pokemon franchise no longer in their hands, 4Kids may soon be a memorey. They are no longer the big dogs that they once more. It seems that their empire is on the verge of a collapse.

I really hated what they did to anime. But does anyone feel the same way about them?

hmmm... I despised what they had done to a lot of anime... put I suppose they were a key for to like anime... when I was between the tender age of 8-10, I began liking Pokemon... and it only advanced from their.

But Pokemon(the anime) would have came along eventually from somewhere else, but I do hate what they did to so many anime, some for your example of Nelvana... as soon as I had gotten a subbed video of CCS, I began hating Nelvana. XD

4Kids is NOT the reason I know "so much" about anime, mind you. Only the knowledge of what is getting cut out of the show. The slap in the face Kasumi gave Satoshi after she pulled him out of the lake in the first episode was a nice bit they cut out too, she did it again a couple episodes later. That's only the few things I know that were deleted, plus they didn't release the movies in widescreen format as they were originally, they're movie music sucks too.

I've heard mixed reviews on Ash's new voice actor; but I haven't heard her since I don't have cable.
Has anyone seen the later Pokemon movie DVDs where they have the "making of" segments? Is it how they butchered it or the actual Japanese production? xD

Though I do dislike the fact that 4Kids did butcher so many anime, when I was younger, it is what got my more involved in the style, thats a for sure. Because if it wasn't for poke'mon,...weelll..

All I can say is good riddance. 4Kids is the one of the worst things to happen to anime.

Spike,
If you read the initial posts, you'd understand that we're discussing what is WRONG with 4kids. Not, "OMG TEH US ONE PIECE R0XX0RZ"

W-What's that? Is that the b&hammer I see coming?

As much as I hate 4Kids, they are a big reason why I got into anime, (mostly pokemon when I first got here). But now, yeah I think 4Kids gotta go.

Outta curiosity, what'd they do to Shaman King? 'Cuz I'm watching the Japanese one, and it seems relativity similar to the English one.

I'm quite aware of that. I assume you didn't look at the site I linked to; it was a parody of "You Won't Succeed on Broadway", but with the lyrics altered to poke fun at 4Kids' dub of Tokyo Mew Mew. Surprisingly, I do tend to read the initial posts.

Honestly, I think it's the fact that we allow women to vote. Look at what it's done to this country.

I lol'd

Mainly they want to focus on children, get them addicted to the stuff, and push out toys and card games to make more money, they didn't care what they did to the series, just wanted to bring it out there to feed the kids.

I hope they do die, since there is no longer hope for them. I'm more pissed at the fans of 4Kids shows, though. Why didn't people buy the uncut Shaman King and YuGiOh DVDs? I bought the SK ones. I would have bought the YGO ones as well, but I figured those would sell, and I wanted some other stuff a bit more.

Seriously, though, I want to hear what some of the excuses were to not buy the uncut discs.

I don't dislike 4kids for bringing many popular anime to the states, I just hate how they crucify and destroy the fansubbing groups that made the anime popular to begin with. Same with Funimation. screw em all >:|

It doesn't make any sense to have more than one episode available for fansub on a title that is available to buy in the States. It doesn't matter what fansubbing did for anime in the past, because now it's destroying anime as far as it being available legally in America. Not everyone wants to sit at their computer and watch anime that way, but enough are content with it enough that they won't buy anything. That attitude will kill anime.

Well, not everyone has all the money in the world to buy all the anime they want. I don't think that they should only have fansubs even if they really like the anime when it's relesed. But there are also some anime that don't get really interesting untill later in the series, so you would want to watch the fan subs first instead of wasting your money if you don't want it.

It would be great if that's what people did. But they don't. They watch it all fansubbed, then when it comes out they say "Nah, I've already seen that". Then they watch something else fansubbed.

Hey, since we're talking about how horrible 4Kids is, I was wondering; what's your favorite anime licensing company? Personally, I am greatly in favor of Funimation. Their scripts are close to the originals, or even better in some cases, and the vast majority of their voice actors are amazing. What do you guys think?

I really like Animeigo, but they're pretty much dead now D=. *hugs her Vampire Princess Miyu OAV discs*.

I also like Geneon, Funimation, and ADV to some extent. I don't like their thinpaks, though. Rightstuf does awful dubs, but their subs seem okay to me.

Indeed, Geneon is luff in a luff-basket. <3

Even that weird anime about like....space....that they liscensed was good. The voices were like....the SAME as the sub, practically, only the bad voices were better.

Unfortunately I haven't been watching dubs at all lately, I've never had cable so the only dubs I see are DVDs from the library.

And they're dubbing the ToP OVA in non-crappy voices~!

(One DVD I might actually buy~ Well, two, if they split it into 2 DVDs~)

I like FUNimation, except for the butchering of the first season of DBZ's script. Put subtitles on and you see the changes to the script. Also Bandai Entertaiment. I love those 40 dollar complete collections. Its about time they did something like that. It used to be to get the entire Gundam Wing series it be $180 and now split between the 2 anime legends sets its like $80 bucks. ADV does those thinpaks but their more money for the same content as the Bandai anime legends sets. I wish Geneon/Pioneer would do this cheap boxes because theyre is a number of good titles they dubbed but its really expenisve. So far i only saw a cheap box sets for Hellsing and SE Lain, but alas theyre still too expensive. I mean 50 bucks for 13 episodes? I think not. FUNimation should realse more cheap box sets.
