I've got a friend making me a wooden replica of Zangetsu (The meat cleaver sword from Bleach). The sword will be within the size limits, but the way the sword is designed might need a sort of support. He suggested putting a metal rod inside of the handel to give it support so it does not break under it's own weight. Would this be against the policy at all?

How big would the support rod be? Is it possible that if the sword section were to be pulled, would the metal then be exposed? Or would it be secure inside the wooden section to where it would NEVER be exposed?

The metal would be in the handle, never exposed. And I think it's four feet long, from the bottom of the handle to the top.

i didn't want to start a new topic and this is the closest one.......I'm gonna' be Saya from blood+, and i'm making her sword out of wood. Wood is ok, right? i'm assuming it is, since that's what the Bleach sword is being made out of. Also, this might sound strange, but is their some restriction on the type of paint you use? some paints have really bad stuff in them, and i want this sword to last a while, so the paint i use might be really strong.

From my understanding: wood is fine so long as it doesn't violate the size rules.

As for paint, I've never personally seen a convention have any sort of regulations over such things.

Neither have I, but either way, we have no beef with wooden swords; even ones coated with metallic paint. As long as they conform to the size regulations, or you can disassemble it, you are just fine.

At least as of last year, the rules that IRT uses to judge the legality of wooden swords (as well as bokken, foam swords, wooden swords covered in foil, etc. ) are these:

� Must be shorter than 4� or broken down into <4� sections.
� Must not be sharp enough to be dangerous.
� Must be mounted/carried/sheathed vertically (not across shoulders or at an angle).

As long as you are doing all of that you will probably not get hassled.

How about this, I'm making the Stinger from Metal Gear Solid. Basicly, I'm using a PVC tube and wood with Sintra (PVC). But there is this box on the bottom of the main tube basicly where you hold it with your 2nd hand.

I found this old metal box that was used to run these lights on a display from my work. It's exsactly the right size, I can take i apart for easy mounting (giggity), and it has this switch on the back which looks pretty cool.

The problem is that it is infact, metal. Here's the thing, it's where I NEED to hold to hang onto the prop so my hand will not be leaving it. So it's not sharp and I will be litteraly carrying it in my hand at all times.

Would this be accecptable to use on a prop?

for my anbu cosplay, i need a samurai sword. i was thinking of buying some cheap one (like dollar store cheap) with a plastic blade. will that be okay?

My friends got a metal sword that she was planning on bringing to the con but I told her they might not let her carry it around.

It's stainless steel and it's rather dull and there is no point to it. So she asked me to find out if she could bring it. I have no idea is she could. Plus there is a scabbard that she keeps it in. I have no clue what the mods would say so I'm asking.

If you keep it in your room, well, Ok. But metal props are against the rules.

Frankly, my advice is this: Don't bring it. Wouldn't it suck to have it confiscated?

I told her that too. She doesn't listen to me....never does.

She was also asking that if it was kept in the scabbard...like sealed in there, would it be okay? I shook my head at this and said, why ruin the sword? But she wants to know.

Frankly, I wouldn't want to be carrying it around in the first place...it's heavy.

No metal swords means no metal swords...even if they're permanently bonded to the scabbard (and I agree, why would you want to do something like that to your sword??) NO EXCEPTIONS! It's not an open-air Renaissance faire, after all (even the swords that are sold in the dealer's room must be kept in their boxes and immediately taken back to your car/hotel room).

P.S. how long is it? Since props have to be under 4 feet long, too...a double-cheat is even less likely to slip by XD

It's under four feet. 3'5" to be exact.

Okay so it sorta of answered my question so i'm assuming that as long as the plastic sword from the dollar store is under four feet long and positioned correctly, I can bring it. Is plastic considered sharp because most of those swords do have a point to them? However, I wouldn't like take it out and stab people with it. Just don't want to be hassled by IRT is all.

If you aren't afraid to run the blade up and down your wrist, it should probably be okay.

If we see you waving it around or otherwise using it in a dangerous manner, though, we will have to take it away from you.
