Time's running out, there are only 6 days left before the deadline, unlike
the years before we chose the absolute latest we can wait before the con so
this year there will be NO deadline extension. Get your videos mailed out
now or uploaded.

This is a pretty n00bish question, but I can't get my amv to burn onto a disc. However, the program i'm using will let me export it as a zip file. So, um, how exactly do I go about entering it like that? I've never heard of FTP and I'm not sure how to zip the entry form with it either. Can you explain it in any way please?

This came up in the amv org thread so I am also going to post this here.

When the theme segment was added to the contest after the rules were written a segment about parodies was overwritten. Blame me I did not read the online posts. This will explain why there are references in the document to "Anime Music Videos & Parody Contest" as well as the Parody option on the PDF. Basically this is for blipvert segments people like to make these days.

Here is the info about the parody option:

"A parody contest is available this year. This is not a music video but it must conform to the same content/formatting rule requirements as music video entries. There is not a traditional trophy prize yet for this event. We are doing this as a test run to see about adding this content formally in the future."

Once again I wish to apologize for this oversight.

I can't really offer any specifics because you have not explained why you cannot burn a disc, what applications you are using, and what OS/hardware you use.

Most people burn their files with some 3rd party application such as Nero. If you are using some editing app to directly output to DVD you need to make absolutely certain you understand the file formats we require. Most people will export in their editing app, use some other program to encode to MPEG-2, and then burn the MPEG-2 and their source audio to the DVD. If any of the technical information in our rules does not make sense to you I would suggest not submitting this year because you will most likely send us an entry which will not meet the tech specifications and this close to the due date you are probably not going to get things fixed in time.

FTP stands for file transfer protocol. I cannot offer tech help for internet applications so my suggestion would be to start googling and checking computer tech sites to see what software your computer may have or what you need to download so you can access the ftp server.

This is how I did it:
1. Go to this address ftp://208.66.172.243/ Exactly how it is.
2. Go into the "pub" folder.
3. Click "Page", and then click "Open FTP Site in Windows Explorer".
4. Now open a different window where you're zip file is located.
5. Drag the icon from your window to the FTP window.

That's basically how I did it. I never used FTP before this either and that's how I got mine uploaded. Hope this helps some!

There is a file ICR1.zip that is 879.56 MB on the ftp. I will NOT download this until someone explains to me what they are doing. Read the rules. Do NOT upload huffyuv (You can only send MPEG-2 video to the ftp). If your MPEG-2 is really that large then you need to confirm explicitly for me when it is done uploading.

Confound it! Had I known the deadline was this close to the actual con, I would have put more effort into finishing my Nausicaa video! It's done in Window's sad excuse of a video editor, but the concept is awesome! Guess I'll have to wait until next year...

I have a question, I keep e-mailing staff about multiple things and I never receive answers. I know it's not an issue with a spam filter because I've tried more than one e-mail address, and I've received them fine in the past. I sent in my entry to not only AMV (the Advent Children video with Hero - Nickelback) but also my registration for The Ultimate Otaku Quest, and I haven't received anything. I made the deadline in plenty of time but now that it's past I'm really upset (not mad just upset like sad I may not make it in) and I would really like to know what's going on in both categories. Thanks

What e-mail address did send to? The one in the AMV rules?

I did not receive this entry. It was not on the FTP and I did not get it in the mail.

You didn't upload it to our FTP then because the upload account does not have permission to download.

I'm sorry we did not receive your entry unfortunately it is past the due date and submissions are now closed.

The video would be show during the hours of the music video contest is shown. Each showing is the same contest (repeated for those who have missed an earlier showing) We don't send out confirmations for videos that made the contest or were cut from the contest.

Contest submissions are closed. Make certain to read the rules for the video formatting requirements next year because we don't accept wmv files. Just a heads up but your method of source acquisition will pretty much guarantee your entry would be cut for QC reasons.

I have have no idea what you are referring to by "for this." This sticky is left over from 2007. A request to have this thread unstickied will be made.
