Okay, I have a question... the new forums seem to allow us to have our custom avatars a lot bigger than usual(150x150)... are we suppose to ignore that and keep them at 60x60, or is it okay to have a large icon now?

If it's a no-no to have it larger than 60x60, let me know and I'll change my icon back to the way it was. =3

I think you can have them resized 30x30, 60x60 and 100x100. I think. Im not sure though but I do love the fact that you can change your avatars anytime you want.

Yeah... it's not letting me upload my own avatars... Is there any particular reason for that? I mean, I've searched around a few times buuuuuuuuuut, I can't figure it out.

I think what's going with you is that you aren't Forum Daimyo or Forum Elite. Once you have obtained that status you can have your custom avatar(I think)

Oh, is Forum Elite included now as well? Cool. I got my avatar ability at Daimyo, but then again, I was a Staffer before I hit that mark, so I had mine prior to that.

Any way we can add the avatar size restrictions as a text line in the change avy area like the file type restrictions?

I'll see if I can find how to do it. It's on my to-do list in the admin panel now. Thanks for the suggestion!

Doh--this is Rosa/Sisterdiscord/Con Secretary. Sorry, this is the test account I've been using to troubleshoot permissions issues.

Today: Daimyo.

Tomorrow: Newbie?
Or maybe Supreme Potentate of the All-Seeing Kawaii club.

Who knows. :)

What is the requirement for being a Forum Daimyo or Forum Elite? Is it post count? Because if so, I've got more posts than Shattermage, for example, but still can't upload a custom avatar. :( I've also seen Forum Elite's with less than 50 posts. What are the criteria?

The system was based off of how long you've been a member of the forums. I believe two years was the minimum for daimyo, and there was a posting minimum. We will rework that to adapt to the new forums.

Keep it as it is DJ, it's a good system. Making people take a long term interest in the con to get avatars is good.

I see. What was the posting minimum, then? I've been a member since October 2003, and I still see Daimyo's with less posts than I have. :( (For example, Isildur in the reply right above this one...)

The post counts changed when we moved. Most people were a good deal higher than it appears now.

um screw the daimyo and elite thing could you give me one out of common curti..curtiousy?..out of niceness. Most forums won't let ppl with low post count get em because they didn't want unactive accounts to upload stuff...but using it as a reward..a carrot on a stick to is a bit twisted. You're all daimaohs to me!

Our old system was always based on time on the forum and fairly low post count requirement (never knew what it was on the old forums)
I believe it was over 720 days that got you Daimyo, and 1080 days for Elite. And I'm sure the post count was well under 500 (ballpark figure) which is nothing considering what goes on in the insanity forums ;)

I like the system, I always have.... it gives you a reward for staying on the ACen site for so long and not only that, but it gave you something to look forward to.

If they gave them out like nothing, what would be the fun in that? =3

See, now, that doesn't seem fair to me. I've been on much longer and my current post count is much higher. I understand that post counts got messed up when they switched servers... but my post count didn't change. Perhaps this is because I usually only post in threads with actual con-related content.

Hmmm.... I think what may have happened here, is the person, SyaoranFan, may have had a lot more posts back in the old forums and had turned Daimyo back then, let us all remember that the post counts got messed up with the transfer... I had 400 hundred something, but when it transfered, I only had 155.

Now I don't know how many posts you had, but what happened to me, I could have been forum daimyo before, but I had become inactive. If you don't participate on the forums, your status doesn't change, regardless of if it's time to switch to Forum Daimyo... I remained a newbie for the longest time.

But, if you did have a lot of posts, I don't see what the problem is and yeah, that is pretty weird.

They should offer something else as a reward, like the titles are good enough. The avatars are a given, they allow you to express yourself and show off anime/things you're interested in as well as you're character. Making someone stay over a year in the forum to get one won't encourage someone to keep going to the con nor keep using the forum, the thought that would seems rather silly. If any thing it makes me wont to stop using the forum.

I don't think it's suppose to encourage you to stay on the forum... I just think it's meant as a goal to have for fun...

and if people are so upset about just a status name and avatar on the internet, then well, they need some serious growing up to do.

How is waiting over a year on a forum to get to use your own basic avatar, especially 'cause the preset ones are bad and most aren't anime related, fun? I don't understand that at all, I think it's fun having one.

No one mention status name that doesn't matter at all, I like to identify myself with my avatar and if I can't at a place to chat about acen then I said I would leave, how does that imply needing to grow up. Forcing you're opinions on some one and then saying they are beneath you if they don't agree implies the need to grow up to me.

Given Brightdreamer's join date, I'd say something was wrong with their forum status. As far as I can tell, there is a low post requirement to retain your status from what happened to mine- over 500 to about 10. Granted, the post requirement may change after you reach a certain level of days since joining, or maybe it has something to do with my member number, don't know.

Well I looked into brightdreamer and heidi, and while you both meet the join date requirement your post counts weren't over 100 (that's a generic number, I didn't know if that was the cutoff) at the old forums. I'm assuming that's why you weren't promoted. I'll talk it over with some of the other admins tonight. I'm tempted to say anyone who transfered over to the new forums with a post count of over 50 and have the time requirements met can be promoted.
We WON'T take away anyone's rank from the old forums. Especially since we clean and archive... the post totals will be kept "artificially" low. So we'll make sure to update rank BEFORE we archive posts and recalculate post counts.
To me, your post totals are a trivial matter as far as rank so.. that's my two cents, but I'll definitely try to get back to you guys within the next day.

Yeah, I have been on the forums since 2004, and had quite alot more posts than now (and certainly more than enough for the old requirement to get a custom avatar). I even had communicated with an Admin about it, then got ignored or something.

So trust me, I deserve my custom avatar.

Am I the only one that thinks that this avatar system is ridiculously stupid. I'm a long time forum user and this is the first forum that I've ever seen operate this way. Please here me out before you immediately dub me a prick... Ok, for me, an avatar (and a sig/tag (yeah know, those about 100x300px images commonly found in peoples' signature) are what make you who you are one a forum, especially a larger one. An avatar just makes things so much easier. Second, if your gunna keep this system, at least make is easily obtainable (or at the very least make a base avatar gallery that actually has some AVs that would actually interest people on this site). This is what I hated about the old forum and I thought that when we switched to invision pro boards there would be no reason to keep it in effect. Also, I find, if anything, it makes more people leave then it keeps people staying. And why not let people just upload their own AVs, it's not like it's hurting anybody.... >_>
Sorry, I'm big into graphic design so I probably find this more irksome than others. So there's my two cents, lol

I appreciate your perspective, and you make a thoughtful argument. Thank you for it--seriously.

We honestly talked about this at length, and are in the process of revisiting the promotion process, timelines, etc. While I do foresee some significant changes coming, I don't foresee us opening up avatars to every new account, simply on the basis that we ban 2-5 spammers on a daily basis, and we try to police this as a family forum. If you've been a part of our community a while, we know we can trust you not to post something obscene as an avatar. Someone with a brand new account--not so much. So, honestly, the avatar permissions may get expanded--first we're focusing on getting some additional security plugins in place.

At the same time, I also feel there should be some type of reward for long-time forum status.
I'll open it up to you guys--what's the distinction? What do YOU think it should be? This is your forum as much as it is mine, or DJFLuffkins!
