Man was I in shock when I found out on the news this morning. I saw the breaking news on CNN today and it said "Crocodile Hunter Dead." I was like "WTF? STEVE!!!" And sure enough it was him. I was in shock! I really loved his catchphrases such as "crikey" or "woooohoooo" He was so awesome! He will be missed. But he died doing what he loved...messing with wild animals. Big Up Steve. Ill miss you but your show will live on.

He was pushing his luck with all that he did--I mean, how many times did we expect to see him lose an arm to a croc--but still, he'll be sorely missed. The world's not quite as fun without him.

This is extremely sad news to me. I'm not quite sure it has even sunk in yet. I'm still shocked. I used to watch his show a lot and I just thought he was so cool.

I was really sad to hear this. Whenever someone would ask me who my role model was, I would answer "Steve Irwin, the Crocodile Hunter". They'd start to laugh, then I'd say something like, "Think about it...he goes to work everyday loving what he does. He has a passion for life and is helping the environment by teaching about conservation and protecting wildlife. He found true love in Terri, who shared the same interests as he did (she worked with big cats). He has two beautiful children who are the joys of his life. Steve Irwin has found it. He's found joy in life and lives every day to the fullest."

I too was shocked and saddened by the news of Steve Irwin's death. I found out through my sister (Excel Excel) early this morning. I thought "no it couldn't be him". But as word spead via CNN, MSNBC, Fox news and other news networks, it sunk in that we truly lost a great man. Never in my wildest imagination that he would die from a barb of a Stingray. I thought Stingrays were such docile creatures, not knowing that they have their own defense mechanism. Everytime I'd watch his shows I would say to myself that one day a Crocodile or venemous snake would get him. I assume that everyone else felt the same way. Not from a Stingray. As the entire world mourns his passing my condolences go out to his wife Terri and his two beautiful children. I don't know how they will and all of us who love animals will go on without him.

Rest in Peace Steve. May you catch that big croc in the sky.

I know, I heard about it earlier this morning. May he rest in peace in the croc park in the sky. He will be missed by all since he was loved by all. He was the last person I would think would die. But atleast he died doing what he lived his life for. I know they will erect a memorial to him, a zoo perhaps. Maybe even rename the zoo he worked at. But we will all miss him.

Yeah, I read about it when my brother came home from work and tossed the paper at me. He told me to read it, and I was like WTF?! A stingray!? That totally sucks. I really would have thought it would be something else. I really liked his shows and he was very entertaing to watch, But at least he died doing what he loved. I feel for his family.

You are SO right.
I'm really sad he died, but he died doing what he loved. Which I think is the best way anyone can go.
I was watching Animal Planet today [when he was in Antartica!] and he said what he wanted to be remembered for was his passion. I definitely think he will be.
He did such great things for animals and the environment. He believed the way to raise awareness was to educate and make people love the animals - he did that. I just hope people continue to learn from him and work towards saving animals and the environment.

I didn't believe it either, it was totally ridiculious to me the a stingray killed him, and not a croc or a snake, but alas, I suppose it was his time. Rest in peace Steve, your passion for life was an inspiriation to all of us.

I think I can safely say that everybody will miss him. I think this also teaches everybody the lesson that all wildlife is dangerous and needs to be respected from a distance. Only experts should handle wildlife because it's dangerous work. I always respected Steve and will continue to respect. I feel especially bad for the children because now they will lack a father figure in life. At least they can see their father's passion for his work and the wildlife. Rest in peace Steve. Take comfort that the world has become more aware of their enviroment because of you.

I was really sad when I heard he passed. my sympathies go to his wife and children. He was a truely remarkable man who did remarkable things. (sometimes crazy) but remarkable things. may you rest in peace and have happiness forever more Steve Irwin, you were an amazing man, both as a father and as an enviromentalist. I heard something of interest. I hear that in it was ever filmed, Steve Irwin wanted his last moments, if recorded, to be shown so that people can see just how dangerous animals can be. I think it should be shown. What about the rest of you.

I was suprised he pulled it out. The way I see it, he died from the trauma to his heart from the stink and not the vemon/poison. But I do see why he wanted it shown. Just so everyone knows how dangerous they can be, ya know?

It was weird to hear he died. I think it took the entire day to get over the shock. After all the last stingray death was back in 1954, I'm gonna trust my coworker on that date being right.

Yeah, this news shocked the heck out of me when I first read it . Since then, I've been trying to wrap my head around how Steve Irwin could have avoided being stung by the stingray, but the only real solution would have been to not swim near it at all. True, he shouldn't have swum on top of it like he did, but from all accounts it was a freak accident and Steve couldn't have imagined that the ray would sting him in self-defense. I'm a bit surprised that he pulled out the stinger's barb, but then again he's probably honed his instinct over the many years he has worked near wild animals. But I'll have to disagree with those who want to see the footage of his death, since according to news reports, one of his close friends watched the footage and was very shaken by it; he adamantly proclaimed that the public should never view the footage. I'll take his word for it. I wish Terri the best of luck in raising their two children, but I'm sure she'll do her best. Rest in peace, Steve. You'll be missed, but know that we all appreciate your dedication to protecting wildlife and educating the public about wildlife conservation .

The only reason I say the footage should be shown is because that was Steve's own request. As I said. He stated that if he was killed by an animal in the wild or in captivity, he wanted it shown so people can see animals are dangerous, even with someone of his expertise. It was his request, I think it should be shown since that's the way he wanted it.

Lets not bring God into this. These kinds of things happen. Yes Steve's death was a completely shock for all of us. But to actually blame the Lord our Savior is wrong. God did not place that stingray in Steve's path to have him killed. I understand you're upset. When we lose someone we care about of course we call God's role into question. "Why do the good have to die"? That's what we all say right? Hate is not in my heart for God in taking away such a wonderful, but vivacious man. Remember him in life. Remember him as we saw him on television. Never bring malice into the picture. Its such a deadly poison that will take over you. Take this to heart.
